I got my husband to buy us both chips on his way home. I'm not even bothering to weigh myself until I'm better.:p

Good for you, keep away from those scales until you fell better, meanwhile take chips twice a day:)

    Good evening everyone,
Sounds as though there's some tasty winter food being eaten in CFO land today:), though sushi is one of those foods I can take or leave unless it's really fresh.

wednesday - have you been to Drs yet with your cough as it does seem to be hanging around. Definitely not a time to be worrying about the scales <hug>
I had UHT milk for the first time in years not long ago and felt the taste had improved, though I still prefer diluted unsweetened evaporated milk if I run out of fresh so always have a tin of that in the cupboard and it has a longer shelf life. Dried milk is ok for cooking but I don't like it in tea or coffee which is where I mainly use milk. I've always got some in for bread recipes and it's good for sauces etc.

It has been so cold today, I've had my heating on since late morning and have just turned it up again for the third time. Thankfully the upside to the impending storm is that it is to get a bit milder. The downside though, as seems to be the norm now, is that the change of weather pressure has the "wonky donkey" kicking again:(. I spent most of the afternoon horizontal which is boring but defintely helps:). I was going to cook pasta tonight but I decided that was probably not the best idea with the wonkiness. I've some bacon needing used up so dinner is a sort of one pot concoction of bacon, mushrooms, onions, diced spuds & tomatoes. I might add some baked beans to it. The tomatoes are some of the last of the home grown ones that have been ripening in the kitchen. Not the best for eating raw but fine cooked. Meal plan didn't get done but I have a better idea of what needs using in the fridge veg wise so will base the next few days around that. Lunch was turkey broth from the freezer which was suitably rib-sticking- shame it was the last portion!

I'm another one with bad memories of UHT milk, I'm fussy what goes in my tea, it was the smell rather than the taste. I use to object to the little pots of UHT milk in cafes and would demand proper milk :p

You can keep the snow up there Caronc we can share this rain if you want :D at least the dense fog we had first thing went before it rained :o

I've never worked out Wort how cats know we're taking them to the vet  my vet once said the main cause of no show was 'the cat has gone missing' :rotfl:

Spent most of the morning dealing with IT including one frustrating conversation with India, me saying the engineer has replaced my system board and now the encryption software won't let me into my laptop, their response was take a screen shot and email it to us :wall: :wall: me 'I would love to but I CAN'T LOG ON TO MY LAPTOP' it gave my colleagues some light relief :rotfl: they were also happy it was happening to me not them :rotfl: and after all that the problem is still there  at least the builders weren't in so other than some dust in the atmosphere my breathing was better than yesterday, except when I was swearing :D

Lunch was split pea and ham soup, I wanted chocolate but as it was raining I didn't get out :). Dinner was the beef ragu. Two portions of soup went in the freezer with one left out for tomorrow lunch. My HM RM drawer is now full, and there's not a lot of room in the rest of the freezer, so no more adding to it, I think I've said that before :rotfl:

Snow is long gone Brambling and it's now tipping it down! Much as I hate the wind & rain the hopefully milder temperatures will be very welcome:cool: . Glad the asthma was better today.:) Your IT descriptions bring back many memories of losing the will to live moments from when I was working :mad::wall::wall: I had definitely had some real "Victor Meldrew/Basil Fawlty" meltdowns.......

The problem these days is no laptop and you can't do anything, this is a new laptop unfortunately 3 of us got them and I obviously got the Friday afternoon build  luckily I still had my old one but they didn't know that

My weekly threat at work is that's it I'm going to work for W*itrose :rotfl:

My new toy arrive today but a long phone call meant I've haven't had much time to [STRIKE]play[/STRIKE] learn to use it. It is definitely more complicated than my 25 yr old sewing machine which is very similar to the one I used at school :D

The meal was good , I had tomato soup, as the mushroom soup everyone else was having wasn't gluten free? ? I actually got a gluten free bun! And I'd remembered to take one too!!! The beef was beautiful and there was plenty of veg. I was too stuffed for dessert.
I'm working today so pasta with lo veg for tea before the quiz.
Enjoy your day every one ..

    Good morning everyone,

Glad you had a lovely meal wort:)
Dilemmas PN - perhaps some sausages to go with the mash? A small pack would keep in the fridge ok if you bought some.:)
It's very windy here but thankfully a bit milder, despite the CH cranked up and lots of layers I felt cold all day yesterday and only warmed up when I headed to bed in fleecy pjs with my heat pad at my back and a hot water bottle at my feet:eek:.
It's too gusty for me to contemplate going out but as I'm still quite wonky I'm quite happy to have another day pottering about indoors. I have LOs from dinner last night that will cover lunch and tonight I'm swithering between making a pot of mince or finally sorting out the gammon joint and having a gammon steak. :)

ETA - see you are sorted PN - fish pie sounds good:)

But I'd have to choose some and go out and buy them .... then you've got about 8.... to get through - and I am eating out, so they'd not even see the light of day from tomorrow to Sunday.

So they'd go in the freezer... and clutter it up.

Bitterly cold rain here... and WIND.

Yes, it's half way there. Dragged the fish out of the freezer. Boiled an egg. Peeled tons of tiny spuds (because I wanted the mash white, not white-ish), they're nearly cooked. Then I just need to mash it ... that's NEARLY the end of the 4Kg bag of spuds I bought (never again!).... most of it was mashed/frozen.

Not really worked out yet how far this will go. I think the fish is actually "four portions" when done as a pie. I've 3 dishes I can think of where it'd fit... so I'll end up making three portions ... although then I might be "a bit light" on spuds for the 3rd topping. If I run out of mash I can always make a bit more as I've still about 12 small spuds left in the bag.

So, in a couple of hours I'll just: cut/poach the fish, defrost the peas, make the sauce, fish/peas/sauce in dishes, top with sliced egg bits, then top with mash .... and one might make it under the grill. The other one/two will go into the fridge.... for tomorrow.

It'd be nice to serve it with chips, but that means going out .... and the freezer's a bit full too.

Cor, dull, wet & windy today not going out anyway because IT'S HERE, my new freezer arrived and unpacked by the JL delivery men:j

I've left it with door & drawers open to let the gas settle & slight plastic whiff vanish, a wipe over later, then comes the stock it up bit

Thanks for link Meg, that seems a very good buy but I'm going to have to pick & choose because "bundles" often contain things that I rarely eat, like untried mince, burgers & bangers

I'm still browsing the web sites, not yet signed up for newsletters, maybe this afternoon
There's a local organic free range farm near me so need to check that out as well, one thing I did find out is certified organic meat cannot by definition be Halal, makes my choice a bit easier

    Porridge for breakfast

It'll be the last of the YS sushi for lunch, end date was midnight so I think I'll survive it, but at 20p the bin will await at the slightest whiff or odd taste

I've taken YS beef & ale pie out to defrost for tonight, pie & chips weather, plus maybe open tin of beans

One of the L rump steaks out defrosting as well, I'll marinate that later for overnight in fridge & eat for tomorrow dinner
