  • It's been a busy few days for me. I've spent the last two working in a special unit for kids with autism. I was in the class that has the older, higher functioning kids. But the whole unit has the full range, including those that are completely non-verbal and non-communicative. I've loved it. I'm starting to wonder whether I missed my calling, as when I was teaching full-time, I only ever worked in mainstream schools. Perhaps I should have done special schools instead... Oh well.
I don't anticipate going back to full time, permanent teaching (although you never know!), so I guess that ship has sailed, to some extent.

I had a chicken curry for tea, and am now killing time, before going to the cinema for another NT Live screening. 'The King and I' this time. I love a musical! I will probably treat myself to an icecream milkshake as well. :)

    Good evening everyone,

Farway - my Dad uses the frozen mash as like you he finds peeling spuds hard and finds it perfectly decent. I used to keep a bag in the freezer when the kids were younger and I was working full time. It was fab for making a quick cottage pie or similiar. I definitely prefer it to packet mash.
Well done on the weightloss Wednesday :jthough more importantly I hope you are feeling a bit better:)
flubberyzing - "The King & I" makes me think of my Gran. She loved the film and it was quite often on over Christmas when her & my Papa stayed with us as they had retired to town a good few miles away. No matter what was happening it had to be watched so consequently I've a soft spot for it:).

I shan't comment on the reasons why folk find themselves struggling to live on low incomes except to say I hate the culture of deserving & underserving "poor" much touted by some parts of the media. I'm just grateful that I can afford to eat and heat my home adequately when so many struggle to.

The rain has finally eased a bit to be replaced with really strong winds again it has also got much colder as the day has gone. I changed my bed linen earlier and a flannel sheet & duvet cover has gone on. I should be super toasty tonight.:)

I thoroughly enjoyed my mince/egg/toast lunch and I'm currently talking myself out of making a butter pie for dinner and sticking with the healthier gammon steak & veg option. ;)

I've just noticed how long this thread has become:eek:, while we haven't had thread-eating gremlins for a while you never can be sure they won't reappear. When it gets to 6K posts I'll start "CFO(Mark 4)". I'd hate to lose all our[STRIKE] ramblings[/STRIKE] meaningful conversations;):D
  • Evening everyone, sounds like we've all had the wet, blustery weather. On my walk home from work it must have stopped & started raining about 8 times....

The soup stayed warm to almost hot. It wasn't really boiling hot when I put it in the food flask, & I took it to work in one of those insulated lunch bags. I could definitely feel the heat coming up through the lid when I got it out.
The top was warm & the bottom was still hot - giving it a stir evened it out a bit. I'm going to try again tomorrow with a vegetable soup that'll be a bit more liquid. Overall, it did a good enough job at providing a warm lunch. I'm not sure anything like rice & curry would work in it tho.

Tonight's tea went as planned. Pasta bake defrosted fine - I'd never have known it was frozen. The T sliced beetroot from a jar was a bit bitter. HM salad is just salad & I'd actually forgot I'd made the garlic bread slices til I spotted them after finishing the rest.

Ill be making the pasta bake again soon & getting some more Tupperware this so I can freeze in portions again.

Thanks for the butter pie info :) I've looked at a recipe and decided for the sake of my waist line not to make one just yet :rotfl:

Will done on the weight loss Wednesday sometimes the only benefit from being ill is a loss of appetite :) hope you're beginning to feel more like yourself :)

Glad the soup kept hot Novice I used to find warming the flask with boiling water first kept the soup hotter for longer

Hope you enjoyed the King and I Flubberzing :) it definitely sounds like you've had a rewarding couple of days

No work today I had planned to go Christmas shopping with my sister but she had to work from lunchtime so we settled for a cooked breakfast for brunch and a wander around the farm shop attached to the cafe. Unfortunately the furry alarm clock decided to pull over the laundry basket, first thing this morning, rather a rude awakening which meant only a fifteen minute lie in  I may have said some rude words :p

I then popped round to a old neighbour to set up her new wireless headphones, only to find when I got there that they were Bluetooth and not going to work with her laptop  I was told off for complaining that my tea didn't taste right she texted me when I got home to apologise that the milk was off  she was adamant there was nothing wrong with it when I was there

After brunch there was no need for lunch, just some fruit mid afternoon, dinner was chicken thighs mash potatoes and green vegetable

Since my fish pie, which was lovely .... the other food today has been 4 chocolate biscuits and two packs of crisps :)

Tomorrow's a bit of an odd one all round... I've got to get out of the house for half an hour or so... and I've got a shopping list that can't all be achieved from the shops I could pop into during that time. None of it's urgent. Being out of cheese is probably the biggest issue... L1dl have bags of grated cheese this weekend... if I get my 4rse out of the door for 8am Saturday I could just grab a couple of those for now.

I've had a yearning for sausage rolls today.... but probably won't buy any until Monday.

I don't really need to think about food until Sunday now as I've got two scoffathons booked.

Last night was my 2nd meal out this week, it was with the girls in the family not all could make it but there was still 20 of us.
I handed out all my Xmas cards. My starter was sweet chilli chicken, and a delicious salmon for main. We had a good laugh, singing along with the artist who was singing Neil diamond / Michael buble.
All food and wine was free as we used our quiz winnings:T there are 4 of us that do the quiz on weds it's a pound to play ,and around 5 rounds with a £10 win for each round. Some rounds are £5 with a drink token for the rest.

A really long physical day at work yesterday, and I'm back in all weekend so not planning on doing much except going for my pilates that the physio referred me to.
