Talk of beef casseroles and dumplings tempted me to buy some beef shin and a YS ox cheek lunchtime so I may do that Sunday, just need to decide whether to slow cooker it or use the pressure cooker  I think I have a bottle of beer somewhere to add to it.
Fab cuts of beef for either, personally I'd do a beef stew with the shin and a pulled beef ragu with the cheek:).
Your neighbour sounds like my Dad when it comes to phones, batteries etc. He had to be firmly talked out of buying a new TV when "it stopped working" when actually the remote control needed a new battery :wall::wall::wall:

Thanks Caronc I hadn't thought of beef ragu, definitely cooking time on Sunday and if I use the pressure cooker I can do both :) just need to make sure I don't tell my sister or I'll have visitors for Sunday dinner :rotfl:

My neighbour's 86 so patience is required and I resisted from suggesting he called his son

Edit - just checked and I have all of the ingredients for the ragu including some red wine which needs using

I'm super slow in the kitchen ... weighing/checking is like an OCD exercise.... so guess how long it takes to ...

You want to make something simple. You have all the ingredients to hand (just have to pluck them from their boxes/shelves). You are ready for this. What do you need?

Half the pack of OOD bread mix; 2 teaspoons of 1 ingredient; 1 tablespoon of an ingredient; 2 tablespoons of an ingredient. Then a bit of butter, milk, 1 egg. Grate cheese, slice an onion.

How long .... does that take between "start" and "start mixing"?

Answer is hidden, just select this sentence and the answer will be revealed: 30 whole s0ddin' minutes!! 30!!

    :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:that's not too bad PN;)

    Good morning everyone,

Grey & raw here. One of those days where it still doesn't seem to have got properly light.
Spent about 20 minutes watching a blackbird absolutely gorging on the cotoneaster berries. I'm surprised it could still fly after the amount in consumed. Definitely a wildlife friendly bush to have as the bees love the flowers in the summer and the birds the berries in the winter.:)
I'm undecided re food, a blt for lunch I think and I was going to have a gammon steak but don't want bacon/ham twice in one day. I might defrost a chicken thigh and have that instead.
Over the next few days I need to get the bramble vodka strained so I can get it bottled for Christmas (must check I have enough bottles;)) and buy a small gift to send to Greece so it gets there in time. :)

Then you add another 20 minutes for clearing away, putting it all back, doing the washing up, wiping down the tops, so everything's back to how it was before you started!

Although .... having got the kitchen cleared/tidied.... I then had another idea about what to add to it.... so then promptly got the knife and grater out again... creating more mess that I had to clear away. :)

Only 2-3 hours before I work out if it's edible. Hope it is... still got another half bag of that flour to go :)

I have every expectation it'll turn out perfect... but I'm currently having to check/guess how long it takes to cook .... it's more of a "fat scone" shape. So round and quite flattish... in the SC.

It's currently smelling of "cheese overload".....
  • I'm tired... My upstairs neighbours decided to have a screaming domestic, that went on until nearly 2am... It mostly seemed to consist of banging on doors and running around. Culminating in a final screaming match, before finally going silent. I nearly got up and called the local rozzers, when they stopped.

I got up at 8:45 and went to Waitrose for a few bits.
I've now got a bolognaise in the slow cooker, which'll be nice later. Added a good glass-full of red wine for some extra oomph. ;)
