No physical pain at the dentist just a financial one
nearly £60 I spent longer in the waiting room than I did in the chair  I sure that's gone up a lot Since the last time  at least working from home meant I got a lie in
I didn't react to my flu jab other than a raised sore patch about the size of a coaster for a couple of days which felt like a big bruise. I believe there were different flu jabs this year for the under and over 65s. I usually end up with a sore arm but never anything else and no flu since 2000
Farway have you tried freezing one of the PN baguettes? I've also got bulbs to plant at the weekend
Lunch was jacket potato with beans and cheese, dinner was a little cba when I came in at 8pm so just a quick omelette, nice and easy todayLife shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage - Anais Nin0 -
Good evening everyone,
A late posting from me as not long home and seemed to have got my second wind so still up.
I had a lovely evening and catch up with the "girls". My friend who was hosting is very artistic and had made us all a "keepsake" book of copies of photos through the years, as we first met the last one to join the group 40 years ago next month:eek:, such a lovely thoughful gift. We have a very long history together and such a laugh to see the fashions and hairstyles over the years (why I ever thought a "Crystal Tips" shaped perm was a good idea I'll never know:eek::eek:) .
I had a Negroni cocktail and my word it was good:D, something I think I've only had once before. I think I will be suggesting it is the family "Christmas cocktail" this year especially as being MSE Aperol is on SO at Tesco just now.
HM bread was a huge hit, I must get back into making this regularly as it's very little effort and no reason why I can't make a batch and freeze part baked small loaves to make it worth while putting the oven on. Banana loaf was tranformed into a lovely pudding with ice cream & chocolate sauce my friend made. Definitely not a calorie light evening!0 -
Food is secondary today to getting the smoke detector sorted out. It needs a new battery .... and it's hard-wired into the ceiling, so that's "up a ladder, fiddling about, while connected to mains electricity ... on a wobbly ladder" - or not.
I've heard there's a local group of volunteers that help older people do stuff like change lightbulbs ... for a small fixed fee.... just plucking up the courage to give them a call ... and I need to go out and buy some batteries...
Unfortunately, I am unable to move forward with any of this as the chirping has raised my anxiety levels to "screaming inside" .... so unable to function until I "get a grip and calm down and think clearly".
EDIT: Local group's looking like a dead end.... I'll have to end up paying "somebody proper" no doubt, but it'll take a few days to ask around, work out what to do.... think about it, choose/decide and act. All the time to a constant background of "CHIRP!!"0 -
Well you're doing better than me Pastures with that smoke alarm - as I'd probably have just smashed it one by now....
Last time mine was doing that (though it's a battery one thankfully) - I was just going to keep pulling at it until it went off - even if it broke in the process....0 -
Good afternoon everyone,
Hope you can get the alarm sorted out quickly PN, It's a dreadful noise to live with though I suppose they are designed not to be ignored!
I'm tired after my late night so had a lazy morning. It's dryish but cold and very windy here today, I'll be quite happy just pottering indoors. First Christmas pressie ordered, I has been watching it and the price had dropped by 1/3 today so I took the chance and bought it. I won't look again in case it drops further .....;)
I need to do a new meal plan as my previous one has finished. Mexican chicken from the freezer tonight I think either with rice or wedges. I'll see what I fancy later.
Lunch will be roti with salad and some of the bean/pepper dip I made. While I took most of it to my friend's I kept a small tub back for me.:)0 -
I used to get my hair permed when I was a teen.:D I don't know why. It's been slightly wavy ever since as it used to be dead straight.
I coloured my hair until I was about 35, either goth dark brown or bright blonde. I've just been natural ever since then. I don't have any grey yet so don't have to consider colouring it again.
The healthy eating went out the window yesterday as I ate about 6 bourbon biscuits with my cup of tea when I got in.:rotfl:
The cough is worse today and it's worse when I lie down so I went out for a walk in the park and then to the chemist. I could hardly speak to the woman who worked there. She said Covonia for tickly coughs was the best thing to take so I got some. I hope it works!
It feels exactly like the tickly cough I had this time last year when I had the flu!
I had toast with marmite for breakfast and I'm about to have some Quorn fish fingers in a wrap with some salad and ketchup.
I was going to make a curry but I really don't feel like cooking so it will be something easy for dinner. I might just roast some cherry toms and broc in olive oil in the oven and have it with spaghetti.0 -
Got the beeping sorted out.
Had jacket spud/beans/cheese for lunch.
Last 2 choccy digestives a bit later as I fancied them0 -
Into town after usual breakfast of porridge etc
Needed milk & cash, [STRIKE]tootsies [/STRIKE]chiropodist tomorrow, I get them done where I volunteer, just a trim really no nail varnish:D
Found a YS steak & ale pie in Asda, dinner solved plus one for the freezer
And remembered to get more baked beans in
Parsnips on offer as well, pack of them, it's been a while since they were around
The shopping trolley was fully loaded by the time I finished. I was struggling lifting it up the steps when I got home, one of my better buys IMO
PN, best of luck with smoke alarm, mine's still out of action, battery connection wires hanging from it's innards, waiting for taller & safer person to put the battery in. The batteries are back in L's BTW, 2 pack £2 something
Lunch was PLM sandwich, with caramelised onion chutney. No idea where that came from, I've never bought it so I'm guessing it was gift a few Christmas's ago. Tasted fine
Couple of choc digestives also consumed
Dinner will be the YS steak & ale pie, LO mash, steamed to soggy cabbage, plus parsnips & carrots
Brambling, not thought about freezing the baguettes but freezer space would be a problem, maybe once I get my extra freezer?moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »Well Farway - are you going to be brave enough to answer THE question re Brexit (well - as far as some of us are concerned:)) - aka "To what extent do we get our borders back up again - and when?" I've not dared take a look yet - because of distinct suspicion we might have been "sold down the river".
.
Given today's developments, the sold down river is looking more like "up sh*t creek without a paddle"
Just had silent phone call, instantly hung up, 1471 reveals it was from Bury St Edmund's, obviously rubbish call as there isn't anyone or thing there I know off. nice town though, and enjoyed my pint in the Nutshell, smallest pub in Britain:beer:
PS, good news on beeping PNEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
After work yesterday I had chips with broccoli and hot smoked salmon fillet. Mince pie and cream ..I had hot chocolate and a slice of the fruit and nut choc for supper. Went to bed early 10.30pm (for me!) As I needed to be in work for 7 am. ........... then proceeded to lie awake nearly all night! I stopped looking at the clock around 2.15.am
We were doing a big move around and very busy , so I finished at 3 feeling shattered. Luckily I'm off tomorrow, before being in sat and sun.
Dd1 is coming to visit tomorrow and has promised to call for gfree fish and chips for us !! Before going seeing dgsons picture in an art competition.
Tea tonight is chicken pakoras with chips. If I can be bothered I'll have veg.!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
Farway - sounds like a sentiment that pretty much sums it up. I gather (on another thread) that Merkel has finally admitted the "end game" of the EU is an EU army. That should shut up the bleaters who whinge for a second referendum and won't accept the democratic verdict:cool: I think the mish-mash it currently stands at does mean we get our borders back up again at least??? (fingers crossed). I'll accept that as A Result if it comes to it.
Dinner tonight - rest of the mushroom thing I made a couple of days back/rest of some canned potatoes and some broccoli. About to have snack of couple of hard-boiled eggs to keep myself going.
Diets - bah humbug! But people were commenting yesterday that I've lost weight:). So "nose to grindstone" for a bit longer yet and cynically thinking "Well at least the diet will be over before Whatever Happens Happens re any temporary disruption of food supplies come Brexit" and I'll be free to eat whatever foods I think I will (within my vegetarian and genuinely healthy) guidelines - which might be needed to make life easier whilst "things get Sorted".
I note that "A Girl Called Jack" is screaming for people to stock up with canned foods on the excuse of Brexit news. Errrrm.....that wouldn't be based on her own personal feelings about her own personal experiences & the fact she has a canned food cookbook to sell would it (rather than due to an Objective Fact)? Oh husha ma mouth for cynicism...0
