Caronc - that's good news for your dad, and a relief for you x
Kittie- I worry about dd2, and dgson , I don't think as parents we can help it!
Squirrel- I'm surprised that you get to dry them, I chase mine round with a towel!! How do rescue them out of the water, a fishing net??

I've put some washing in its v.cold but sunny at the mo, so I hope to peg out.
I will be watching silent witness shortly, now I'm alone I can't watch at night!! Such a wuss!!;)
Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.
  • oh well, ratatouille is in the fridge for last meal and puff pastry and sausage meat is defrosting for sausage rolls, my plan for my friday visitors but this lot is a test for lunch today and tomorrow I have 2 people here for an agm, so they can be nicely reheated for then too. As always, quickly cooled or probably just prepared and will cook tomorrow for them. Will be fine if closely wrapped but definitely some today, to taste

    Good morning everyone,
Thank you for the good wishes for my Dad, I spoke to him earlier and although feeling a bit tender in the nether regions he is feeling ok and sounded quite chirpy.:)
We have a weather warning for snow :(, though I doubt we'll get much if any it's really horrible and cold. I think the heating may well be staying on today.
Unusual breakfast for me today- toast & jam. My friend gave me a jar of her HM autumn jelly and I just took a notion for some this morning. Very nice it was as well and not too sweet which I prefer:D.

Lunch is going to be turkey soup from the freezer and a "roll and something". Veggie pasta on the menu plan for tonight and I've tomato sauce in the freezer so just need to cook some veg & pasta later.

For the first time in ages I don't have any LOs lurking in the fridge, it looks decidedly empty. I could do with a shop really but still have milk and plenty of food in so will leave it until Friday and manage with what I have.

Glad your dad got the OK Carol.

I went through quite a few with my parents, I seemed to always be "the one that was there...."

Thanks PN , it's good to be able to be there for your parents x
  • Nom nom re food. Just tried out making cashew cream cheese and it's rather nice (well - it does have quite a bit of one of my favourite tastes in it - ie lemon).

So lunch today = toast spread with cashew "cream cheese" eaten with some tomatoes and olives. Some fruit of some description coming up afterwards.

Thinking of other peoples health concerns - and one thing I've realised at my age (ie 60's) is the way other people in my agegroup are having memory lapses and disagreeing about what actually happened on "shared occasions". Guess I'll have to work out a policy on how to deal with this and not quite sure how to handle it. The worst episode of this recently was when a (former) friend was swearing blind that a shared episode hadnt happened as it had - despite formerly sharing a laugh with me about the way it actually happened. But the second occasion I remarked on it - and she swore blind things had happened differently.

One on the phone this morning of an acquaintance remembering things differently to the way they had actually happened - though they were agreeing with me that it was just as well I had proceeded in accordance with what was actually agreed (rather than what they "remember" as having been agreed).

I guess this is going to get more frequent - as the people I know (friends or otherwise) get older and hence I think I'd better figure out how to deal with it if that's the case. Can hardly make a note and get them to sign it re any mutually-agreed arrangement we've made obviously. But I guess there will be times when people don't turn up for something we've agreed/do something we've agreed - because they honestly don't remember that we did agree it....

Had better think of tactful ways to say "Right - diaries out now we've agreed it...." I guess...but that does rely on people looking at their diary each day to see what they've agreed to be at/do....

I loved the chilli I made the other week and had frozen a portion.

I've the last of the Xmas spuds to still get through, so grabbed the two largest (one sprouting, so cut that bit off) and am cooking those.

I'll be having spuds topped with chilli and cheese.... although the chilli portion is way too much for the volume of spuds I've got I've got to eat it anyway.... for a jacket spud topping I'd usually serve a half portion compared to serving chilli with rice.

Up earlier so had plenty of time for a longer mooch around the shops, I went into our greengrocers because I noticed on their FB page an offer of 10% off Mrs Darlington's stuff, and with my piccalilli taster hat on I fancied trying one of theirs

While in there I found Mrs D also does Gin marmalade:beer: Had whisky marmalade before but not gin, bagged jar to try

£land for take away tin foil things having read on here about them [pie time soon], plus replacement quiche wavy edge dish, dropped my first one:(

Ready roll pastry from Asda, pie time looming closer

I went in our new bakers, opened this morning, fancied trying one of their "Award winning pasties". decided against once I saw price, £3.45 for a medium and 4.50 large . In my world I will not pay that for pasty

As it happened I later went into C0stcutters while collecting a prescription, found a YS 8 oz rib eye steak down to 1.50. Dinner sorted

Lunch was last of the tuna / mayo LO from Monday, with salady bits in a sandwich

Dinner will be the YS steak, chips, eggs, mushrooms & grilled toms
I'm off to make up a marinade for the steak once I post this

yes parents do appreciate it when their children are there for them in times of need. They might not say much but as a parent of adults, I can hand on heart say that we appreciate so much the time you give. Small things mean a lot

Oh my giddy aunt, the sausage rolls were absolutely fantastic. I meant to eat two and I had three, greedy pig but it won`t be happening often. I will be having the others at lunch tomorrow, imagine me, the one with my arms clasped around the plate close to my bosom, mine mine mine. I will be making them again on friday for my family visitors, double the amount and that will be the puff pastry and sausagemeat finished, I think and just as well. Was waitrose best sausagemeat (christmas) and puff pastry in a roll, both cut up and frozen in smaller portions
