I wouldn't have expected it to taste bland Stoke sounds definitely overpriced for what you got.
A couple of times a year I will treat myself to guinea fowl as a change from chicken, I like it as it's slightly "gamey" but not dry etc.
Farway - I've had ostrich twice. The first time from birds grown near where I was on holiday and really liked it. The second time from a SM and it was as tough as old boots.

That's my greenhouse cleared out & tidied up for winter, I'm ready for my feet up for a couple of hours now before I start on the bedding plants. I picked the remaining tomatoes which will hopefully fully ripen in the conservatory.
It is really quite warm outside and I've been shedding layers all morning:D, it's been a few weeks since it was short sleeves weather so I'm making the most of it!

Lunch was a quick ham & coleslaw sandwich with cherry toms and a cup a soup.

I must have had a slice off the the same old bird.
I've tried water buffalo, fresh from farmers market, OK but for the price I'd prefer a good beef steak
Not yet tried the kangaroo sometimes on offer in L's, one day maybe.
The one thing I did like was venison, shot as part of culling, I could eat that easily if it were not for the price choking me

Lunch was sarnie as planned, followed by some of the bread pud I made the other day, this one has turned out a stonker, not too sweet and just as I like it

I may have some with the last of the L's custard on after my RM YS Jalfreezi [sp?]

Lunch for me was the other 2 portions of that game meat. Maybe I was harsh, it does have flavour, I just wouldn't call it particularly distinctive. Freshly cooked chicken is probably nicer.

I also had a little bag of peas with it. I love these microwave peas. They're great :)

    Afternoon all,

I completed my final session with my little lad at school today. Didn't even mention it was our last session together, as we've only done a week, and it would have just made him unstable for the whole morning. He'll be back with his usual person tomorrow, all being well. Although if I get a call in the morning, asking me to go again, I won't be hugely surprised!

I've got tutoring at 5:30, so will have tea when I get back. I've got the other par-baked baguette to eat, so will do that with sausages when I get home. I also need to phone the mother... She's been away visiting her sister since last Thursday, and I know she'll want a proper catch-up gossip, as we normally chat every day, since dad died.

Currently sorting out in my head, what meals are going on tomorrow... I need to be at Birmingham University for a training thing at 6pm... It's an hour 25 to drive, or an hour 30 on the train. I think I'll do the train. Much less stressful.
I can't be late, so I'm thinking of having a big main meal at lunch time, then 2pm-ish train to Birmingham and have a bit of a mooch round the city, then another short train ride to the university, and I'll take a couple of sandwiches for the train home again at around 9pm.
I'll get the bus TO the train station tomorrow, but I'll take a taxi home again, as it'll be pushing 10pm by that point. I must remember to take cash with me for that. I only do maybe 3 or 4 taxis a year, so I don't mind, and at that time of night, its more about safety than anything.
Because it's fun to have money!

It is quite mild tasting compared to other game birds but sounds as though it's not been hung for long enough:(.

Vension Farway - now you're talking, I must remember I've a couple of haunch portions in the freezer.:D I sometimes get vension mince for a decent price, mixed with some pork mince it makes lovely burgers etc. I've some of that lurking in freezer too:rotfl::o

Phew flubberyzing I'm exhausted just reading about your day, hopefully the lad will cope with the transition back to is usual person okay.

I managed to have a productive day in the garden and the bedding plants are all in the compost. Just the tender perennials to trim back and pop under my garden bench set for the winter and the buddleia in the front to prune (though that will need to wait until my garden bin is emptied. I might get a start on that tomorrow as the weather is supposed to be ok in the morning. I'm pretty whacked now but pleased with what I got done, but boy does the garden seem bare. After that I need to get my domestic & cooking head on as I have my sister and friends here for dinner on Sunday for my friend's birthday. I used to be able to clean the house and cook a three course meal in one day but need to do it in stages now. I'm going with a vaguely "Italian" theme of nibbles/antipasti, pork& fennel meatballs braised with lentils, herby roast baby potatoes and buttered greens followed by tiramasu (with a candle stuck in it:rotfl:). My friend is a fabulous baker so I'm not going to :o:o myself by making a birthday cake....

ETA - hit a major CBA wall re cooking dinner so a simple but tasty meal of spaghetti, HM ratatouille from the freezer & parmesan:)

Menu for Sunday sounds lovely Caronc :) set an extra place at the table for me :D

I'm another venison fan and luckily our farmers market sales some beautiful local wild meat :) although I don't get the good deals I use to as a regular customer now the original butcher has retired :( Because most game is low fat it can become dry easily, I also mix my version mince with pork mince Caronc I grate an apple into it and chopped fresh sage to make my meatballs :).

I will eat thumper, bambi and skippy I'm not fussed :D although I wouldn't go out my way to eat kangaroo. Iceland used to do a nice reasonable price ostrich steak, not sure if they still do. My nephew tells us he's scarred for life because when younger he was fed rabbit and pheasant and told it was 'special chicken' :rotfl: I had to try and explain once why the chicken had been shot :rotfl::rotfl: he was a fussy child :D

I'm not sleeping well at the moment :( not sure why probably my age  I had a 2am panic last night that I hadn't gone some work needed before we can work at the weekend I went in and apologised to my manager only for my colleague to pipe up I haven't done it because she had, oops - what made it worst was I then remembered she had offered to do it

Another very long meeting meant lunch ended up as a couple of shortbread biscuits and a cup of tea, so dinner of LO meatballs, braised fennel with rice and green beans was very welcomed :D I was glad I didn't have to cook just ping

There is always room for another round my table Brambling ;) Hope you get a decent sleep tonight, I add grated apple or some applesauce, onion & a good pinch of all spice to my venison meatballs. Definitely helps them from drying out:). Thankfully I've never had any issues with myself or the boys eating wild meat or fish.

    See you Sunday

Oldest nephew would try anything from quite a young age and would get me to cook the things his mum wouldn't like game and seafood especially squid and prawns his younger brother was fussy until he went to uni and now likes to experience and try anything I get some strange text requesting cooking instructions, the last one was relating to stuff squid. He's even getting my sister to be more daring with food although she still draws the line at squid, prawns and 'bambi'

I will try the meatballs with apple sauce and all spice next time :D

I was awake for the better part of an hour between 3 and 4am after a sort-of nightmare. My parents were both there and it was something to do with them singing the praises of my sister, and I start screaming at them that she did F all while dad was ill and after he died. Which is true! I thought I was over it, but perhaps I still carry some resentment after all! Oh well! Got up for a wee and a drink, then put some boring documentary on iplayer and fell back asleep.
Not really what I needed when I've got a busy day ahead! Typical eh?

Just about to write a to-do list of things I need to do today, before heading off in the Birmingham direction at about 1:30pm. Trains are about every 20 minutes, so it's more important I match up with the hourly bus from where I live, than be concerned about getting a particular train.

Add me on the sleepless list! I got in at midnight after the quiz, only to be wide awake at 3 am with doubts about my bathroom refurb running through my head!!!
I'm in work today 9 _6 then off the weekend! :j
Not a clue what to have for tea, I'm taking a ham salad sandwich and yogurt for lunch. Tea will need to be easy.
Caronc I bet it feels good to get the garden straight. My garden is still very full and colourful, I have some acres and other shrubs with beautiful autumn colour, and even after the leaves fall I have a lot of evergreens, so it doesn't look bare.
Gardeners world last Friday was at Rivington which I recognised from the first shot on screen as it's not far from me. But had to laugh at the end when it said it was in Warrington! !
