I just scoff... food isn't really thought of in terms of "meal names/times" :)

Today's scoffathon has so far been:

    2 hot sausage rolls
    1/3rd punnet of red grapes
    1 spicy coleslaw sandwich
    1 mini cheesecake

    I think that's it.

Yes they were a special treat my Mum used to sometimes get for us if my Dad was backshift on a Saturday. I felt ever so grown up being allowed to have a late dinner with my Mum after my younger siblings were in bed especially as we used to have it on tray in front of the TV.;):D
Sounds like a good trip Farway, I do prefer if out for the day to have a couple of food/drink stops rather than lunch. :)
Sounds as though you are getting back into the swing of things with SW MTSTM :)
Generally I'm better with fixed meals rather than whenever PN, otherwise I find I tend to be constantly on the mooch for food. Don't know why but it seems to suit my metabolism better.

It did dry up later this afternoon but the rain seemed to take my oomph with it when it went! I made a half-hearted attempt at clearing some more pots but a persistent wasp that kept landing on my hair & face was enough to make me decide it could wait for another day.:o I did pick another couple of 1lbs of brambles, some toms and cue. The veg patch yielded enough runner, french and broad beans for dinner tonight and I also picked some chard to have instead of spinach. I have a couple of rashers of streaky lurking in an opened pack and a small amount of chicken stock left from making sauce last night so I reckon those plus the beans/chard and some spring onion should make a tasty sauce for spaghetti. I sliced up what was left of the stuffed chicken crown and there was enough for me to have a portion to freeze and make a sarnie at lunch time. Not bad for a chicken crown from a 1.5kg chicken and about 6ozs of haggis, we had generous portions last night but it could have easily have been sliced to feed four so a pretty economical roast. I had too much haggis for stuffing so I cooked the rest separately and I'll have haggis, neeps & tatties tomorrow night.:)

I like the sound of your paperweight PasturesNew! I buy myself one a year in September/October in memory of my dad who also collected them.

Awww, that's wonderful. In that case, I'll try to take a photo of it at some time, but, due to its characteristics that's not simple.

It's quite tall, egg shaped. Inside there are two controlled bubbles that are adjoining, think "small baby's dummy" in shape. The outside has a blue tint on about 1/4 of the circumference and an orange tint on another 1/4 of the circumference, they meet at the top... so there's a lot of colours going on and reflections from within. No maker name (car boot/to be expected) - I can't put a style or description to it due to my complete and utter gormlessness over the subject.... but "it's very eye-catching and pretty"

I used to have the occasional beef curry/rice Vesta "back in the day" - very posh :) I looked, in the last month, when I saw them for sale in Home Bargains - £1.79 they wanted! Blimey, not worth that!

That was Dad's attitude (and mine!) towards paperweights also. I know nothing about how they're made or anything. Nor did Dad. He (and therefore me as well) just picked up ones that caught our eye.

The one I bought last year is shaped like a sealion! I am rather fond of the animal shaped ones. There is a lovely antique shop near where mum lives, when both dad and I have got them from in the past, so I do like to try and hunt one down from there when the time comes.

Following on from the talked of tinned meals. I did indeed eat the curry in a can from Aldi. Not worth repeating. Sauce less flavourful, and a lot less chicken in than the Tesco version. The Tesco one is well worth the extra pound in cost if this is the next best! :rotfl:

I've just caught up with episode 1 of 'Bodyguard' on iPlayer. Part 2 tonight. It's rather good so far! Anyone else watching?

Found this, which is similar, and demonstrates the size/shape and the orange/blue - but my bubble's a different shape and there's a little less blue and orange. Mine's also not got that "black blob" at the bottom, just a microscopic width "tornado tail" to the edge.

    Lovely!!

The one here is very like my most recent purchase. Although I'd say the colours on mine are brighter.

Thinking of the paperweights etc - errrm...no...just sitting here thinking how I've not got anything "ornamental" at all in my house - ornaments, pictures, anything. Unless one counts those battery candles - as I've got a few of them (I like candles - but don't want to burn them unless they're "friendlier" than standard ones). Thinks - must buy some beeswax ones at some point - as I think I've still got a lot of candleholders (despite giving away many).

Re that Bodyguard tv programme - yep...watched the 2nd episode too last night. Quite fast-paced. I'm not sure I'm convinced he would actually be a bodyguard for (or at least personally involved with) one of the politicians that agrees with "those" recent wars. I can believe his friend deliberately killing one of them because of the way our politicians started "those" wars - that's perfectly credible to me. But him going so far as getting personally involved with her - despite knowing she was party to those decisions hmmm....:whistle: One would assume he might "obey orders - and be that bodyguard" but be positively "on duty only/objective" to her. I guess the point being made is he is a "loose cannon" all round and will let his "hormones" rule his "head"??

    Good morning everyone,

I'm not really a collector of anything specific but I do have a lot of pictures and fancier jugs/bowls etc. displayed in a Welsh dresser.
Dull, windy but dry here this morning. My friend is popping by late morning between meetings. I'll make her a quick cuppa & sarnie and then my Dad is coming for lunch at 1pm. I need to do a spot of tidying up before folk arrive so best get my finger out and get on. Lunch is tom soup from the freezer and grilled cheese on sourdough so not much prep needed.

    Morning all!

The paperweights are the only thing I collect. I got rather put off collecting things by seeing my neighbour Betty's house as a child. Her house was always spotlessly clean and tidy, but MY GOD she had a lot of "stuff". When she died, it took her daughter forever and a day to clear out the house, and none of it was of any value. Betty had clearly loved her collections, but they just became a tiresome job in the end.
I personally only have a 2-bed flat at the moment, so I haven't got room for vast collections of stuff. Especially if it's not practical stuff I can use.

I got up early today, expecting a phonecall. They emailed about an hour ago saying they couldn't find my number. I called them. Person I wanted to speak to was on the other phone "I'll get her to call you right back on this number!"... That was 40 minutes ago...

Breakfast was a yoghurt and a banana. Not sure about lunch, as I haven't got any sandwich meat left... I might just have enough cheese left to make do. I did want to avoid the supermarket today.

Back to reality today, dull & warm. Nil breakfast, into L's and found YS plastic ham, so bought a pack 'cos I had no ideas at all for lunch. Not my normal type purchase but needs must

Lunch was some of the plastic ham, in a PB baguette, with salad bits.
The PB baguettes were from Home Bargains, spotted them last week, cheaper, and a bit smaller than my normal L ones. Never had the HB ones before, but on this quick sample I think the HB are a bit tastier than L's

Dinner, at last, will be one of the on offer steaks, plan is with a few frozen chips + salad. Think I'll fry the steak, It's marinating in the fridge at the moment

I no longer collect "stuff" but I did spot when out yesterday some individual art things, would be unique vases but not for me.

You are doing well still, my produce is just about over now, toms going strong, plus apples & some figs, otherwise that's it for my home grown this year
