Morning all, breakfast of usual porridge, banana, honey & yoghurt

Reg the old Labrador has arrived, my he is a big lad, now snoozing on his blanket after a good sniff round.

Lunch may be a problem, I intend having crumpets with grilled cheese, but I've been told Reg may attempt a takeover with sad, pitiful doggy stares. Hard heart required

Bit dull outside, but I think I'll go ahead and plant out my runners, they are starting to twine around each other so need to get on with climbing up canes. I've some fleece to wrap them up if needed

Dinner, I think will be warmed up LO cauli cheese
I suspect Reg may attempt a take over regardless of what you make, in my experience labradors are very much "if it's food I want it" category of eaters;):rotfl::rotfl:

On an economy drive and making a 2 day chicken curry....
As for gardening, so far have planted out lettuce, dill, flat parsley, container strawberries, nasturtiums, chives, thyme.. I already have oregano, rosemary and mint. But I have a slug problem - from little cutesy ones to big grey mottled beasties. They ate half my sweet peas and are now eyeing up the dill. :(
I have put copper tape round some of the pots. Useless. Will save my egg shells to put down but I read that dog fur is also effective. Also nematodes - which I've ordered. I've resorted to pellets till I build up my arsenal. Then there is the beer trap method. Last time it didn't work (the wrong type of beer apparently) and it cost me a small fortune trying. This time we are going with Bodingtons (some economy drive). I'll report back... :)

I think I may have been a Labrador in a previous life, no off switch when it comes to eating :o

I've tried coffee grounds and eggs shells to combat slugs, made not a jot of difference nor did nematodes, copper tape, wire wool. or beer traps. The only thing that works for me is the pellets. I use them sparingly only when plants are small & tender and buy the ones that are non toxic to animals & children. I did notice a significant reduction in the population once the hedgehog started visiting. It's back again this year so fingers crossed

Same here. Reg has now gone home, my lunch went OK, he never bothered, must have been one of the rare picky Labradors

The LO cauli cheese now heating through

I've always used slug pellets, never found an alternative that actually worked for me

Runners planted out, slug pellets sprinkled or I'll never see the runners in the morning

Had a call, out to lunch tomorrow, part of DGD's birthday, always celebrations & parades on her birthday, May Day

Is that a "permanent hunger thing" or "If it's there = gotta have it, even if not hungry thing"?

Sounds as though he was on his best behaviour so he can visit again;)

I'm definitely in the latter camp, if someone else is eating something I always want something too even if I'm not hungry.:o On my own I only eat when I'm hungry so just as well I am mainly CFO .

I have serious food envy tonight though, my elder son & his gf treated themselves to lunch here https://www.thewalnuttreeinn.com/ today to celebrate both their birthdays instead of giving each other gifts. From the photos they sent the food looks amazing and apparently tasted even better:D. On a plus, neither of them are materialistic so can be hard to buy gifts for so I think gift vouchers for there might be a solution for Christmas gifts:D.

I got very little done outside as it was cold, windy and drizzly so I abandoned gardening and read my book for a bit then tackled a pile of ironing. I hate ironing and mainly "shake & fold" but I also like cotton & linen so it's necessary evil though tends to lurk for ages before I do it .....

Second one for me too, although I find living on my own it can be mouth hunger especially in the evenings. Last night I had to sit on my hands to stop myself popping to T express or making biscuits as I wanted something sweet and didn't have any thing in house. I also lack will power hence someone left donuts in kitchen at work so I had to have one

One of the definite pluses of no longer working is I no longer mindlessly scoff cakes, sweets, biscuits etc. I seldom eat these things at home but there was always bits to hand and even though I don't really have a sweet tooth I could seldom resist...
