    Good morning everyone,
Ah "Ye Old Oak" ham and a box of Family Circle biscuits, definitely part of my Christmas in the 1970s along with a box of "Eat Me" dates!
They'll no vampires near you Wednesday with that soup!
Very icy here today, it rained briefly yesterday evening and then froze hard, Hector has been discovering his "brakes" don't work as well and he's had a few skids while chasing his ball.
CFO tonight and pooch free, DS2 has a night out in Glasgow and DS1 and DIL-to-be are looking after Hector. The first thing I'm going to do when they leave is mop through, it will be nice to get the floor dried without pawprints!  :)
Bacon butty for lunch and braised steak with onions and mushrooms for dinner. I baked an extra spud yesterday so will use that for a bit of mash to go with it.
  • Another cold day here but blue skies and sunshine so feels like “proper” winter.

Managed to make a start on the Christmas shopping today (how on earth is it only 2 weeks away?!) Decided to just buy things I liked straight away rather than dithering, looking round then ending up back where I started to find the items out of stock 🙄

Did a bacon and egg sandwich as a sort of brunch before I went off to have my hair done. Needed a restorative toasted tea cake with my cuppa between Christmas shopping and grocery shopping this afternoon.

Used up half a pouch of lentils with some onion and the end of a red pepper tonight, served with George Forman’d salmon and sugar snap peas.

I do like the M&S gammon Farway and I find their 750g one for just over £5 is a ideal CFO size, I have one in the fridge because I forgot I had one in the freezer 🙄 18 mins in my pressure cooker 🙂. My mum always cooked a gammon at Christmas but there was a tin of 'Ye Olde Oak' and one of pink salmon kept in the cupboard for unexpected visitors 😁

having been out the last couple of days it was a stay home and do chores day for me, I also spent much of it thinking it was Sunday 🤔 I started to sort the freezers but decided it was a job for when it's warmer

my sister popped around to borrow a jacket and stayed for cheese on toast for lunch, I was being kind and shared my Sussex charmer 🙂 she did managed to leave her handbag and had to come back for it!

Dinner was a pork and apple burger between portobello mushrooms with chip, coleslaw and corn on the cob

Grey, cold and very frosty this morning, not expecting any, but snow would not be big surprise looking at the gloom

Made an instant mix loaf in the Panny first thing, turned a bit of a dud this one, but the mix was on last use by date, hence my using it up, so expect the yeast was done for even though I did add extra. It'll do for the moment though, I'll make a "proper one" for tomorrow

Caron, I'd forgotten about the "Eat me" dates, and the tin of salmon Brambling, we must've been extra posh 'cos it was tinned red salmon for Christmas tea, or maybe that's what I remember because it was with the awe & wonder this tin was opened
Thanks for tip about the M & S gammon as well, sounds ideal and on my list for next visit. My pressure cooked is beyond reach at back of a low cupboard, so possible candidate for the slow cooker by the sounds of it

Lunch today, the JKS egg sarnie sounds nice, just egg, bacon is still frozen. One fried egg should be the right size to fit on my dwarf loaf
Dinner, no cooking today, something ready-made, either out of freezer or open a tin, I've been adding tins of veg curry or meat type stew to my hoard and today seems a good day to try one

  • The football sucked last night! Depressing!

I made myself a cup of hot chocolate this morning to cheer me up!

I am going to have a shower and wash my hair (I hate washing my hair in the winter!) and then do a walking video on YouTube as I don't want to go out in this weather. I think I will watch a xmas film this afternoon.

    Good morning everyone,
Ah the tin of salmon would get stashed by my Mum to make fishcakes between Christmas and New Year! Tinned fish wasn't something we had a lot of, with connections to the fishing industry we had steady supply of fresh stuff so tinned salmon wasn't seen as the treat it might otherwise might have been.
We had some snow yesterday, not enough to lie properly just leave a wet mess which has frozen solid. It will be another day of staying indoors for me.
Got the mop through done yesterday but not much else and felt absolutely bushed afterwards. Ended up having an early night and my cold feels a good bit better this morning.
DS2 and Hector have yet to return so I'm enjoying the peace while it lasts. I think another cuppa or 2 are in order before I tackle the enormous leeks and make a pot of soup.
Cooked far to much last night so plenty of LOs for lunch. Tonight it's pork ribs with HM oven chips, baked mushrooms, tomatoes and tinned corn.
  • Good evening everyone. Realised this morning I needed to get Christmas things in the post so a bit of wrapping and card writing first thing. Also did some kitchen tidying and stripped the bed before going out for lunch - fab 3 courses including a turkey dinner 😋

Load of washing done when I got in to make the most of the heating. I’ve also ironed and mostly remade the bed. Keeping warm tasks but also wanted everything done before marathon tv viewing - done the Masterchef final and watching Strictly now.

Had a glass of wine and some nibbles a little while ago.

Evening everyone, late one for me as I've been to a wedding today just over a hour away across the Surrey border and have just got back, luckily my youngest nephew doesn't drink so he drove 😁 It was the daughter of a family friend who grew up with my nephews.  We were thinking about leaving just before 10pm when friends here sent photos of the snow 😬 so those of us not staying made a getaway.  Luckily there was nothing until about 6/7 miles from town and then it was patchy until we drove into town we've had a couple of inches here, I suggested my nephew dropped me off on the main road as our close wouldn't be clear and was told it would be easier to drop me than take me to A&S when I go A over T  he knows me so well  :s

We left here at 11am so no food at home other than later breakfast I'm now watching Masterchef as I wouldn't sleep if I go to bed now. Hopefully his lordship will stop sulking my morning 🙄

Snow & frost free here this morning, with all the news I was expecting at least a white dusting, but it's just grey & dull, which suits me just fine, quite honestly it would be an ideal grotty day to have stayed in bed.

Christmas cards written but not posted, a job for later in the week when I collect my prescription. I still have presents to wrap, but no rush for that

The freezer clear-out continues, found an Iceland Harry Ramsden steak pie, BBE 08 Dec 2022, overdue by four days :o , so goodness knows how long that has been lurking under the other items, may be pre lockdowns even. That's now earmarked for today’s dinner

Lunch, open tin of cheapo Essentials tomato soup, with AF croutons made from a couple of stale LO slices
Dinner, as above, the HR steak pie and probably HM AF chips + peas but may make mash instead if feeling like it later

  • I just had a hot chocolate again.

There was snow here last night that turned to slush and then my husband said it was snowing again this morning, but it has all melted. It feels much warmer to me.

I'm not feeling hungry at the moment, but it will probably be my usual toast for breakfast!
