Cooking for one (Mark Three)

I unexpectedly had to go out, which was a pain as it's drizzling. Something popped up on FB for free, just 8 miles away - and I've been thinking I'd like one of those in my next house. It's just a frame wardrobe with a cover over it.... I'd have spent months pontificating over new ones to get the right one. For free I figured "that'd do as it'd at least hold clothes". My existing one (also obtained free) has a wooden frame and canvas cover; that turned out to be a really good find. This one's got a metal frame, plastic shelves and a "fake canvas/plastic" cover. But, in the next house it'll at least serve as an instant wardrobe. I like those lightweight wardrobes as I have the ability to move them about, unlike "real furniture" where they need to be delivered or you need a van + 1 person ... etc. I'm all for inflatable furniture too
But - it's not for here.. place is so cluttered with LL's bits/bobs and furniture I don't need/use there's no room for it. So, on the way back, I dropped it off at the storage unit.
I slipped over on the wet decking when I got home, so hurt my knee. And I have a bit of a sniffle too
Decking was a nuisance as not only did it hurt, but the wet patch looks a bit brown from where it'd been stained in the summer... so I immediately popped them into the washing machine. My first use of that as I've been storing stuff up. Luckily, while at storage, I did specifically get out my big airer.... so that's a bonus.
No carvery today. There's no joy driving out in the drizzle, I'll have one of those Mr T frozen dinners today; I'll leave the carvery for next week when it's dry.0 -
Dull, damp & grey again
L's first stop, YS loaf 20p and large black bags on offer, plus a few biscuits was all I needed
Mid morning coffee at volunteering included more cake, someones birthday:j
Into Doc's on way home, blood test pass OK, celebrated by crossing the road & buying F & Cs;) The lunchtime special has gone up, now a fiver, gulp:( Very nice though, had to stop her piling even more chips on after two scoops, maybe she took pity on a poor old geezer?:D
I'll not need any dinner, maybe have a sarnie or similar if I feel peckishPasturesNew wrote: »But, potentially, cooking steam and fatty spray could get up in there, gunking it up.... steam carrying natural fats away would seep up there and the fan blades would become brown and sticky over time.
And, if you've got sticky/fatty residue up there... it's got the potential to catch alight at an unspecified future time and date of its choosing....... no?
I suppose it could, but there is a continuous down draught from the fan taking everything down & out.
As Brambling says, with AF there is not a lot of fat / oil used, but of course somethings, like bangers, are fatty to start with so do have a potential to "spit" fat as they cook
I've not tried chips from fresh spuds in new AF yet, my problem is using up fresh spuds before they go bleeurgh. Worked OK in Actifry so I assume OK in new AF once I get round to it
PS, PN did LL get away & is now safely quarantined in China?Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -

Good evening everyone,
Glad you got your F&C Farway you've been promising yourself a chippy post-Drs for a while:)
It's been a very fraught 18 hours, my nephew was admitted to hospital in the early hours following a severe deterioration of an existing health problem. He's where he needs to be and while our NHS is far from perfect when it works well, as it did last night, you couldn't ask for better:). My sis is in bits and exhausted and so am I. Going forward we'll deal with things as they need to be dealt with but for tonight I'm for a glass of red, some oven cooked food and hopefully a decent night's sleep.0 -

Sorry to hear your nephew is poorly Caronc <hugs> But as you say he's in the best place. You're poor sis isn't having to good a time recently she must be glad you live so close
Farway I don't buy oven chips so my AF chips are all made by proper potatoes, I'm lazy so I rarely pre cook the potatoes just cut up toss in a dribble of oil and toss in the basket, however I do like using LO cooked new potatoes to make 'chips'
Works been blah all week with continuous major IT problems each day it seems IT are working 24/7 but they just seem to be making it worst  it look over an hour to log on to our laptops this morning and anything which did work was really really slow  it was also a case of finding someone who could get an application to work and then getting them to do the work for you as we all seemed to has access to different systems
By lunchtime I was fed up and my lentil soup didn't appeal so I braved the drizzle and walked to the SM for a lovely crusty roll and a thick slice of ham carved on the bone, also reduced on the deli counter:D I'm afraid I binned the soup when I got home  another birthday at work so I had cupcakes too

Bearing in mind these are the very cheapest ranges, my verdict is:
Mr T 75p/400g spagbol = recommended. Best cheap one I've had.
Mr T 28p p/noodles = recommended. Much better than the 4ldi 37p ones.
Yesterday I ate:
1x spagbol
1z p/noodle
4 Mr T chocolate buns/fairy cakes
Remaining Mr T 89p wine guns (not recommended).
1/3rd of a 100g bar of chocolate (Mr T)
I really need some flatbreads, but I was too tight to pay £1 in Mr T. They're about 75p in L1dl/4ldi.0
