    Good evening everyone,
    Glad it's "proper" peas unrecordings;), have you every had a "pie floater" (pie sat in pea soup)? We made them once for an Australian themed party yonks ago and they were much better than I thought they'd be.:)
    Carrot & lentil soup Wednesday what's not to like!:)
    I bought the dress Brambling plus a few bits as part of Christmas pressies:D.

    Chicken here too tonight - thighs that are currently marinating in a mix of Maille honey mustard, mayo, garlic, rosemary and a splash of white wine vinegar.

    I'm not at all keen on tinned pasta (it's the texture as much as anything and they are so sweet IMHO_pale_) unless it's well buried under a mountain of strong cheese and it's with something really crunchy, then if I had to I could just about manage some. My younger son loves it though so there is nearly always a tin of spaghetti in the cupboard if he's coming for a longer visit.

    The weather has been lovely here today though decidedly chilly and only just reached double figures, the temperature is dipping sharply this evening but it's supposed to be another dry day tomorrow. I got lots done outdoors and all my tender perennials are now in pots in the greenhouse, the bbq etc. has been stashed and the picnic bench covered. I had real fight with the bungee cords I use to secure the cover but wrestled them on eventually - definitely an easier job for two folk !
    Much as I enjoyed it, I decided to turn all of the LO veg & butter bean stew into soup and was going to do that then have some for lunch. However, I was so engrossed outside that lunch ended up as a quick cheese & cue sarnie instead. Dinner tonight is the aforementioned chicken thigh with a baked spud, min corn cob, roasted cherry toms and some nuked green beans. I've quite a lot on this week in one guise or another so have revisted my meal plan as there were a good few things on that take a bit of prep and gone for simpler options. It will mean some things I planned to use will end up in the freezer but other things will come out so it should balance out.

    By accident I think, and quite a nice way of doing it. We strain the peas so that the leftovers can go in a cornish pasty (Leo's come with a net bag & steeping tablet)

    Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    I usually buy the "Great Scot" ones which also come with the handy "steeping" tablet (though no net), a must IMHO if you don't want grey peas:).

    This is how I work WHMF or maybe it's just the excuse for a full cupboard :). But I can rustle most things up or find a substitute for an ingredient if I fancy it :)

    The jam of my childhood was all homemade Farway and if the eye was taken off the jam pan it could be very thick and sticky :D. I think your right that more modern brought jam is thinner, not that I have a lot

    I was tempted to put my heating on this morning it was definitely chilly when I woke up and I was reluctant to get out of bed, and a nip in the air when I sat and drank tea this morning

    This week I'm going to several things at our local theatre typically the things I wanted to see all happen at once. Today was an encore showing of Turandot from the Met Opera in NY I went with a ex neighbour as it was the Encore it was 2pm, it was strange coming out in daylight

    Lunch was flat bread filled with beef, horseradish and spinach. Dinner was a repeat of yesterday except the chicken was cold and I made mash potatoes with a large spoonful of pickled red cabbage on the mash, I forgot I had but a couple of chilli in the cabbage so it was lovely and spicy although the first mouthful was a bit of a shock :eek:

    I think most commercial jam these days contain less sugar than HM - hence the runniness & "keep in fridge" advice.
    I do love pickled red cabbage especially with ham or spud based dishes, my Mum & I used to make huge batch of that, beetroot and pickled onions each year to have over Christmas and the later winter months, though chillies didn't feature lots of hot mustard seeds did.:) We used to watch TV with basins of our various veg and when it was the onions swimming googles on - what a sight we must have looked but I always remember it as being a good laugh. :rotfl:Even after my Mum died but I still had a "full house" I used to continue with the tradition but haven't for a number of years now as it just lurks and I tend to buy the odd jar if I take a notion.

    My chemo (PCV) precluded, amongst other things pickles, and I'm only just getting back into them. One thing I had ready for Halloween a few years ago that got cancelled for the duration was the Mk I Eyeball. That's to say a big cheap brown pickled onion crammed into one of those tiny jam jars. The few I made up looked very effective

    Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    My mum would never have add chilli either Caronc just pickling spices. When the shallots arrived in the shops or from the garden from a young age we had to help peel them for pickled onions, the smell would linger for days on your hands :o but boy could she make good pickles :) She would complain that I would steal a jar every year, I did always bring the empty back for the next year :D. I could never get them as good as hers so gave up trying

    That was me this morning, woke up, went to loo, felt bit chilly so back to bed to wait for heating to come on.

    Next thing it was way past 8 but a nice warm house:o
    Good job though, it's dull & drizzle out

    I love pickled red cabbage, always used to make it, and onions, but now I'm CFO I buy a jar on the odd time I fancy some
    I've never found commercial red cabbage that is a patch on my HM though. Could be a job for a YS small fresh red cabbage if I spot one

    Usual porridge, the fresh batch of HM yoghurt with the new starter is nice & thick, obviously the old starter had become exhausted

    Lunch, has to be last of the LO tinned salmon + cuc sarnie
    Dinner, I'll be joining fellow CFOers in LO chicken tonight:D
    I'll probably have it with frozen chips + salad
    Eight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens
  • I like pickled onions and gherkins. Now I want some!:D

    I got a cab to my GP appointment today as it was pouring with rain. I had a blueberry and banana smoothie before I left. I got antibiotics and nasal spray.

    I was in Coop on the way home and I saw a vegan sandwich so I bought it and just ate it when I got in. Sweet potato pakora, it was quite tasty.:)
