  • Hi I opened a current account with the above mentioned bank approx 4 months ago. The free switching service went like a dream no problems at all. I conduct the majority of my banking on line. When i applied for the £100 i was told in writing (secure message online) then by a bolshy bloke I had opened the premium Direct account so not entitled to the cash. Even when explained it was an error on my part still no £100..........The point of this very long winded message is make sure you apply for the right account as they will not budge. Which is very annoying as they are still offering this incentive and i hav not used the overdraft...

Hey janet - Remember the days of Alliance and Leicester Building Socirty? Friendly, helpful, generous. Sigh. Those were the days....

Switch to the new Halifax reward account and get £50 extra if applying IN BRANCH, and BEFORE Sat 21st Feb.
You still get the £5 per month.
    MUST use their switching service.

Hey G_M, where did you see this? As I cant find anything about it on the website...

No - not on their website, and in branch just posters offering £50 for taking insurance. So I asked if the £50 applied to current accounts too and the response was as indicated!

I have opened the Halifax Reward account,I intend to transfer £1000 from my Natwest account, leave it for a week and transfer £700 back a week later. The remaining £300 will fund my standing order to regular saving with Barclays paying 6%. The T&C don't specify that you have to maintain a balance- in fact you can have an overdraft- just that £1000 is paid each mnth to ensure you ge a fiver the following month, doesn't have to be salary. No £1000 credited- no fiver following month. I don't intend to move my dd's or standing orders across. I imagine the extra £50 available is to ensure you use their current account for all banking.
Are those shopping bags you're carrying really bags of debt???

Is that possible? I thought that in order to claim the £5 a month you must agree to the switching service, ie transfer all of your DD's.

No, you just have to credit it with £1000 per month.

Yep, the same as the old High Interest Current Account they used to have. As far as I know you are right about not having to keep the £1000 in there but you should be aware that if you use your overdraft you will be charged £1 a day.

  • Thinking of trying the First Direct account, particularly for it's 7% RS ISA, £100 sign up and £100 switching.

However guess I would need to time the 12 month switch exactly to get the extra £100, without messing up the 7% RS ISA?
  • Hi everyone,

I have just applied a Premier Current Account this weekend and hoping to get my £100 bonus in 4 months time.

I later found out that I just sign up to the Premier Direct Current Account which pays 6% and no bonus. As from the conversation at the bank, I was given the impression that the 0.5% (Premier Current Acc) and the 6% will give me the bonus payment. I didn't really have prior knowledge of the difference beforehand.

So, I don't know if I should go in on Monday & tell them that I want the Premier current account or to see if there is a loophole here.

    Any advice?
