  • Be gentle with me - I'm new to this (and apologies if I've half duplicated my post - I pressed a button and everything disappeared!):o

I'm in the process of changing from First Direct to A&L with £100 cash back (thanks Martin;) ). All going smoothly so far - fingers crossed. I'm waiting to see if they will match my existing o/d limit - they're £300 short at the moment!! Hopefully I don't experience any problems like some posts suggest. It'll save me between £25 and £75 per month in charges - a good enough start I think.

BTW - excellent site, excellent info and excellent forums - thanks for all the advice over the last six months. :A
I moved to A&L and thought they were very efficient, and so long as you use their switching service and enclose an original statement showing your current overdraft they promise to match it. Don't send a printout or photocopy cos they don't like that

If FD are still doing their 7% RS ISA in April I might be going the other way (depends what lump sum ISA rates are about though)
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...

I applied for the A&L current account, was accepted and gave my details for them to switch my direct debits (£100 cash back). I got a call from my bank today asking why I was switching my DD's to A&L - I told them it was for the £100, but that my other accounts would remain with them and they offered me £120 within 3-4 days if I keep my DD's with them!! OK said I!!:T Apparently for being a long-standing, good customer!:A

My bank have now sent me a letter and I've checked on-line....they've paid me £150.00 to stay!! :T

  • Hi Guys,

Got a question about the terms and conditions for the £100.

"£100 will be paid into your new Premier Current Account or new Premier 50 Current Account within 4 months of account opening providing you switch all your direct debits/standing orders to the account and for Premier Current Account have funded at least £500 from a non-Alliance & Leicester account within 11 weeks of opening the account."

Does this imply that you need to be £500 in credit when you switch? Or is that just referring to your salary? What if you are overdrawn at the time of the switch?

    Thanks for your help,

    Rob

How about Halifax? From 9 Feb they will charge £1/day that you use your OD, but will also pay you a flat credit of £5/month - whatever your balance - if you pay in £1000pm.

Does anyone know if this is suppose to apply to existing customers? As I was told that it wouldnt affect me as I've already got a joint account with them.

I've had good service from A&L too. Just to let you know, if you dont want to send them any original statements in the post, you can just go into a branch and ask them to take a certified photocopy for you and send that onto the relevant dept on your behalf.

This doesn't apply to existing customers yet, but they may well change all accounts over to this at some stage.

But, from 9th Feb onwards you can change your account over to one of these. Your sort code and account number will stay the same, and won't get a new card or chequebook etc, but the new account's T&Cs will apply.

Well that good as I dont think we are currently getting more than £5 a month in interest so this would work out better for us. Will contact Halifax on 9th Feb to ask them if I can move over... :)

That's really good, and also pretty good in that a bank is challenging the A&L offer and encouraging people to stay with them. Well done!

Just been on the phone with A & L and they said to match my overdraft I need two days in credit in the last month with my current bank. As that was not the case in last months statement nor the one before etc, as I currently have a graduate account with 0% overdraft that is going to expire in six months, I will have to write a letter to A & L saying I can't see that clause written down anywhere in their T & C's and that they will either have to match my overdraft regardless or cancel my application. Otherwise I'll have to borrow money (via Credit Card) at a higher rate to repay my current bank!
