    Hello All,

I am trying to open an account for my Mother without success so far. I am stuck on the digital documents verification; they are not accepting the Italian Passport nor UK Resident card because they both show her Maiden and not Married surname. (In Italy, the wife keeps her Maiden Name) I have provided the marriage cert, other offical docs giving the Married Name like; Bank Statements, HMRC docs, Pension docs but they just reject it with a one line reason that the name does not match and that she should send another document. They only accept three docs online, 1) Driving License which she does not have, 2) Passport 3) Identity Card. 2&3 are in her Maiden name. (but this dosen't stop you uploading other docs of course, which I tried) It's highly impersonal and funny because I must have sent the docs about ten times now but they seem to be just robots...process, reject, process, reject, process reject hahaha. There is no thinking outside of the box whatsoever! Why not just write to her and request what they need? (shock horror!) Anyway, I guess she will need to phone them or visit a branch but I just wondered if anyone had this experience and possibly an easier solution? Ironically, she was able to open a Natwest account a few years ago...before they went through their digital and very laborious revolution. (i.e a letter was sent asking for the correct docs to be submitted)

    Thanks!
    Frank

I've been with NatWest for 44 years and remain loyal because they do the basic banking really well. I cannot comment on the new customer process because I did that in 1973 in a few minutes in a suburban branch.
    .

Well, I was with NatWest from when they were Westminster bank (I still have a cheque book cover with the portcullis motif- perhaps it is collectable??) for many many years. There was never any kind of reward for loyalty unless you were overdrawn and then they had some kind of complicated formula for working out how generous they might be set against the overdraft charges!!
Was only ever withdrawn once- by accident- with full salary going in the very next day, as usual.

So I decided to move (not a switching gift) to IF- they paid interest on my current a/c. Months later I discovered that an error at NatWest had cost me £40 and since they wouldn't pay out as I was no longer a customer I decided to play this game!!
and it is some game..... the marathon variety

I would phone the helpline and explain the situation. If she lives at the same address as when she was a NatWest customer previously they should have her somewhere on their system.
You could then ask to go into a local branch for verification- however, they will probably want to talk to her personally - unless you have POA

I could open a donor account to switch but I am uncomfortable with doing this. This is perhaps illogical and I am turning down an offer of £125 of easy money but that's my choice.

You've answered your own question, ie you don't want. You've made a choice and others have made theirs.
Thanks for the reply but I don't recall asking a question.

I sometimes suffer from memory lapses so if you can direct me to my question I would be both grateful and apologetic for my forgetfulness.

Open it in her maiden name. Once it's open, then change her name on the account. But, the donor account would need to be in her maiden name too.

Nevertheless, I think you get my drift.

Confirmation by text and email this morning that my switch has completed. Login confirms money transferred, logging into switched account shows zero cash.

My experience differs from most of today's posts, having been completed in 8 days. The only NatWest item I don't have yet is the card reader used a Nationwide one).

    Thank you.

It's now perfectly clear that I have answered my own question that I didn't actually ask.

These aren't the droids you're looking for.

Not wishing to nit pick, however I think it was National Provincial Bank?

Well it was a long time along and the memory does play tricks. In fact I think now it was probably 1969 I opened the account. Like you I am not trying to nip pick with my original post just trying to give the true facts.

Existing natwest account holder. Switched in an unused account and all gone through in 8 days. Now just to wait for that cash...
