  • I am so very glad that I didn't switch my main bank account in the switch...

My application was approved and the switch went through yesterday, but they don't automatically send out the card reader, which is needed to make almost all transactions.

One was requested on the 20th nothing sent or received, another one requested on the 27th which isn't here yet either. You cannot set up a payee online without it.

So I call up to make a payment. After getting cut off when they put me on hold to put the payment through twice, the third rep I spoke with said they couldn't put it through on the phone either, as they haven't verified my phone number or something. I can assure you they have the correct one from the sea of texts I've received!

So I download the app, which allows you to make a maximum of £250 payment per day. But irritatingly it will not save that payee to your account, so you have to type in the details every time you want to send something. What purpose this serves I don't know, other than increasing the likelihood of sending it to the wrong account!

Oh, and internet banking doesn't work on Chrome or Safari, not sure if this is a permanent problem but the reps are aware.

Finally saw the tips on here about using a different card reader, and voila, I can make payments, but if this had been a "real" switch and I had bills to pay (and wasn't an account tart and happened to have a Nationwide card reader sat in the drawer) I could be in some serious issues now with no way of getting my money other than £250 at a time...

Overall an amazing experience with Natwest so far. I won't be sticking around after the £125 is paid I don't think!!

My relative says that he has been told that his account is open and that his switch has started - he even has a debit card......but still doesn't know his account number - the promised activation code and an e-mail with further details about operating his account have yet to arrive....he's possessing his soul in patience!

You can also access your online account with your customer number, your debit card and the last 3 digits security number. Can't remember if you need account & sort code.
The activation code is just a different way of getting online (but that is not explained.)
Whatever else- you need to order a card reader from the security tab

Thanks to all - I think that what I (and he) find so odd is that my account opening was done and dusted ( with card/pin) in about a week - I recall that the information to get online was there almost immediately after opening.....he is finding this difficult to believe..:)

Yes, some people get the 'red carpet' express treatment- everything works perfectly, in sequence, in something like 7 working days. Others (myself for sure!) get headed off down the snailmail path with umpteen diversions and worm holes
and there's no flipping reason why there two such divergent systems....

Once the switch is done and the £1500 deposited, how long is it before the £125 is paid?

My online application has just been accepted, hurrah, I just have a question as I'm proceeding through the switching form. The initial application form asked if I have a bank account, with whom, and for how long. I gave my oldest account, one I've had for decades, but I'd rather switch my newest account. Is that likely to flag up a problem if I name a different bank for the switch?

ETS while I've been pondering this the form has timed out. Nervous about starting from the beginning now it's the evening, will try again during working hours tomorrow.

I applied and switched at the same time - I gave different bank details for my bank account and the account I wished to switch - the application went through without problems.
