Well - judging by the posts - especially from Lancashire Lad, even I have a reasonable chance with RM.
My biggest reservation, though, is that it's only temporary, although after the best part of a year with NO income, I can certainly live with that, if the money is half decent.
I'm not too sure about ASDA, purely because I was interested in a 'home delivery' driving job, and was, initially, told that they would not be interviewing for at least a month. I was pleasantly surprised to be called this morning - three days after dropping in my application form - to be invited to a meeting on next Tuesday. I understand that this is an informal 'induction' and will be attended by other applicants. I would be interested to know what this entails.
The main advantage with ASDA is that the job is likely to be permanent, and the store is a lot closer to where I live than RM, but I'm not sure I fancy 'collecting trolleys' - still a job is a job, and since the ASDA meeting is a week before the RM meeting, then I have nothing to lose by talking with ASDA.
My long term aim is to get back into business, but this is hampered by 'lack of start-up capital', although a shift, or even part-time, job at ASDA would allow me to ease my way back into self employment.
So any info on ASDA would be appreciated - thanks.

  • hi rog sorry about 02 i didnt mean it like that :o i did point out on a thread posted about the strike to watch out about your dates etc... anyways good luck with your rm/asda interviews :grinheart
  • with regards to the induction at asda, it involves sitting in a room with the other applicants listening to people talk, and doing a few "tests" , when it was my induction we were put into groups of 2 and had 5minutes to find out as much about the other person then tell the whole group, another involved coming up with a way to sell a certain product, it wasn't rocket science stuff and as long as you are outgoing and friendly then thats what they look for, when I got the job I was told that getting into the induction is the hardest bit so well done on getting this far. With regards to the job, Asda has just started doing home deliveries so you may well get this job, but if you don't it's not all trolley collecting :rotfl: i've worked on the counters - making pizzas and serving ready meals and before I left I worked on the checkouts, but the majority of the other departments are shelf filling I'm afraid. My hourly rate is currently £5.88, night rate is £7.84 (or thereabouts) Asda have regular pay rises, I started 2 years ago on £5.02, when you finish your 12 week probation period you get your 10% discount card and they regularly have double discount days so all goes towards dfw's :p plus you get a discount book which shows places all around the country which offer discounts to asda employees, I know chester zoo, madam tussards and london zoo are in there, plus insurance companies, etc, not really ideal when you're trying to save money but it's there if needed, plus they do a star points thing (don't know too much about it) but if a customer praises you to another member of staff then you get points which asda turn into money, so if you get the job, get all your family and friends to do a star point thing :D

I can't really think of anything else but if you wanna know anything just holler xx

Thanks dsl - that's a really good insight. Doesn't sound too bad at all - I like the sound of the 10% discount, after 12 weeks.
Suddenly GREEN  doesn't seem such a bad colour. :rotfl: :rotfl:

    Thanks again.
