  • Sorry, just curious, why do you put the item in the freezer? and then do you wash it after?

Google it (on my phone now but will try to put the link up tomorrow) :)
It's supposed to kill off moths, larvae, eggs.
No idea if it works but I do it anyway.
Confuses the hell out of the OH if nothing else...:rotfl:

10,000 Posts Combo Breaker I've been Money Tipped!
Some brilliant chaz finds posted today, and I had a very satisfactory day myself :). I found a stainless steel milk jug to go with my new SS teapot, and a pair of 7-in-1 design craft scissors for £1.50, the like of which I've never seen before (nor can I find online!). And a total of nine books for £5.80 - more than I wanted to spend, given that four cost the full whack £1 each - but they were irresistible titles. I also spotted a brand new and warm rain coat in a deep cyan colour for Mum for £4, didn't recognise the brand but it was very good quality and she was happy! She also fell in love with a bright red knit for £4 and treated herself to a lovely handbag in perfect condition that looked very much like the one below for just £2.

Nowt to be lost by being cautious - and could possibly provide an unplanned meal if the freezer is stuffed to full capacity :D

I am an amateur who sometimes gets lucky. My husband just rolled back in, laden but pleased. A "good haul".

For the lads, trousers. Rohan drybags new & likely outgrown Himself recognised them & paid £3 (zip says never worn). Rohan fusion trousers likewise barely used, again £3. Rohan upland trekkers again himself grabbed the pair for £3. Craghopper kiwis ~£30 lined bnwt & he paid (again!) £3 and a pair of cords for the eldest who ripped his favourite pair, £2.

He’d spotted a Langley Lucerne teapot & while it had no markings left visible, we recognise the glaze, the china & the shape. Picked up a butter dish & three eggcups for another pound on another stall.
He picked an imperial blue coffee beaker deftly off the shelf then spotted a cottage brown lidded divided rectangular vegetable dish - with the oval scroll basestamp. Chatting Denby with the assistant, she asked him to wait while she fetched something & produced half a dozen Denby heritage fountain large mugs - for a pound a pop.

So he’s moderately pleased with his hunting & I’m happier than a toddler on a sugar rush.
Still awed at your finds & oh LionessInWinter - reading this must be baffling, the way good things go into the freezer! I hope we've explained enough!?
  • Thank you for the freezer explanation. I love reading about everyone's cs finds :)

Of course it's not possible to wash wool/cashmere at 60 degrees so it has to be the freezer, and yes, I wash after it comes out but probably won't wash the scarf as it's unused. :)

Pollycat, just to add bubbles, the Denby mugs are still for sale! Someone donated a live pattern!?

Which suggests there may be more out there in other cs in the area but of course the book only runs up to 97 so the Denby website has some reference images & I think the tell is in the 'accents' (dashit) or the handles - definitely noticeable! Of course the colour but discriminating one Denby blue from another is a bit of an ask.

Ah well. The lads have trousers galore which is what really matters & I'm still improperly delighted even as I add still more stage boxes to the shopping list. (Some days I wish I could afford The Really Useful range but I can't and feed the lads.)

DFV - love the colour of those mugs. Well done to your DH on the Rohan trousers, they are soooo expensive new.

Heaven help me I have bought another coat. At the CS DD volunteers at they have had a grey corduroy coat from Per Una for a little while now, it has one of those back tabs with buttons, 3 buttons on each sleeve, a collar and buttons down the front, the cord would probably be described as jumbo, the lining is very striking. It was priced at £7.50 but when I looked closely it had some discolouration to the inside of the collar and the cuffs, anyway the manager let DD have it for £4 which I thought was worth a punt. It says Dry Clean Only but we all know how we feel about that, I attacked it with my trusty Fairy washing bar then put on a 30 degree wash, it it still drying but seems to have come up really well.

I do not need another coat:eek:

  • Fairy washing bar, dolly84? Do please tell me more as Himself is looking like a wet hen since he couldn't find the Vanish Bars he loved. I did suggest making a paste but "it's gritty" apparently. (The pestle & mortar hasn't appealed, as we use it largely for food. Small mercies, eh?!)
