I've volunteered for a couple of charity shops for over 6 years. Not because I need it on my CV but because I want to help. (I can only manage a couple of hours because that's all I can squeeze in to my week but I do think every little helps).
Like you, I hate it with a passion when donations aren't gratefully received. I try to make sure that each donor is made to feel that what they have brought in is just what we were hoping for even if there is no room at the back of the shop. In my experience it is the staff (& I hate to say this has been true of where I help too) that are the worst.
I know volunteers are a mixed bag but please don't slag us all off! 😞
I don't think anyone was slagging off volunteers across the board.
It's a tiny minority who have put some donors off donating to specific shops.0 -
More hunting the ideal-whatever (we did have a list!) on tuppence & goodwill, and in every charity shop we went in, the staff were delightful. Some of the customers less so, but eventually we had to feed the lad a pie & shut him in a carehome as that is where he works.
I think we got a proper boot brush, a thoughtful look at what is currently held out for sale as rubbish bins & laundry baskets & sore feet.
Somehow I staggered home with a sewing machine. Vintage singer, red & black cabling all cropped off, to be sold as strictly decorative but with all its crannies loaded with useful spares. I have so many feet I will try being a caterpillar...0 -
I've usually found both staff and volunteers very pleasant in Charity Shops.
That gentleman is the first rude person I've come across in ages (and I regularly donate and buy). Maybe he just had an "off" day, but there's no excuse for rudeness.
I wouldn't dream of slagging off the vast majority of volunteers, I think they do sterling work and I'm sure some of the customers really try their patience!Normal people worry me.0 -
Today I've popped to a few Cs shops and people both staff and volunteers have been lovely so perhaps like everything its a mixed bag.
My fab finds today were two boxed lush bath bombs for £3.95 they would be that each so not a massive bargain but a nice addition to dds stocking. I've decided I would like to make a skirt and got a brand new pattern for £1 I dont know how much they are usually but I was very happy.
The larger bargains were a brand new winter next dress for 3rd dd with a price label of £35 for £6.50 and a brand new pair of Laura Ashley made to measure triple pleat curtains for £20. I know that is quite a lot but they would have cost a good few hundred.0 -
Sorry folks - I shouldn't have used the word slag off in my earlier post ... it was too strong. My fingers ran away with me! I hope I didn't offend anyone x0

Well, you didn't offend me.
And I can totally understand where you and other volunteers are coming from.
Hey!
Shall we just get back to posting charity shop bargains and agree that 99.9999% of volunteers are great?0 -
I visited a couple of lesser-known chazzers this afternoon with Mum. She found some amazing treasures, including a stackable set of Corningware saucepans (I didn't know they existed until today!) with glass lids in great condition for just a tenner. I had to make do with just 2 books, but they are good ones
Btw, the ladies in both shops were really lovely!Value-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!

Just googled and it looks more like the image below (different pattern and deeper vessels though). It looks like a set of three costs over 250!!, Mum's is four! So yes definitely into bargain territory hereValue-for-money-for-me-puhleeze!
