Donated two bags today, some bits of mine that don't work on my figure now I've had my babies, tops that are far too short mainly, and the last of DS's baby sleeping bags. All his 18-36 month ones were second-hand to me anyway and though totally useable, not worth me trying to sell or nice enough to just pass on to others. His smaller ones were all bought new in Asda, they were passed on to a friend who had a baby boy the week before I had DD!

And the other thing I get from charity shops....
Items for Cosplay or Bounding. Very geeky, character dress up or normal clothes that emulate a character.

I've found bits today to dress DD up a bit like Kaylee Frye from Firefly. Dungarees and a top, both part of 3 or 5 for £1 etc so they cost me barely 55p. Size 3-6 months.

Yes, we're big geeks in our house lol

I wasn't expecting to see another cosplayer on this forum! A lot of my cosplays have been adapted from things found in the charity shops too!

:T cosplay and firefly, two things I never expected to read on here!

Makes my finds sound far more boring now. I got a brand new silentnight electric blanket for £5 and a few pantry storage jars for £1.50. Still no luck finding a curtain to cover the front door.

The St Gemma's 99p shop in Otley served me well today. :)

Got a slip-type nightdress in silky satin by 'Presence' (think it's Debenhams). As new, cream with a plum and raspberry Japanese flower type pattern. Be great for holiday packing. Also got an M & S, crumpled georgette-type fabric, (no ironing :D) summer dress. Short sleeved, scoopy neck. calf length and panelled for the skirt to flare out. Shades of wine, cream and delphinium blue, small flowery pattern, bit Laura Ashley stylee but having a couple of these sort of style dresses already I know they are wonderfully cool in hot weather. The 15 pearly buttons down the front would probably have cost more than the dress! Very pleased with my £1.98 spend today.

I thought one or two might have heard of cosplay but admit didn't think anyone would get the Firefly part ;)

You need one of the older or independent charity shops for the curtains, still a bit more junk and bric-a-brac style to get those old thick velvet type ones. I found a good single panel like that that had been donated because the sun had faded half the colour on it, fine for my needs at the time in a rented flat I've long since left!

I found an absolutely filthy, quilted, winter parka coat which will do me for winter.

    £10 from Compton Care.

If it survives the thorough washing it's currently getting, I'll sort out the fake fur trim, re-proof it and get the sleeves shortened.
 Don't know what I'm doing, but doing it anyway...

Having realised it is two days away from Prom & that he's bigger than his brothers' castoffs, youngest & dad went clothes shopping - in charity shops, naturally. Picked up a Ted Baker Endurance suit est £350 for £8.50 (pockets still tacked shut!), a tie for £1 & an rtc shirt new for £20 (which has his father lamenting) but the lad was overheating and tired!

Think he learned a useful lesson about buying the really good stuff secondhand!
Me, I am so pleased & proud of them both (& thankful he already has smart shoes)!

We're Firefly fans here, but the lad is flashing his beloved Judge Dredd belt to Prom, it bring the single most expensive garment (?) he owns. Ah well, the photos will be fun!

Prom is coming (T minus minutes now - vigorous sploshing noises from bathroom) but it has been another good day in the charity shops.

M&S Dress shirt 3.50 (but the lad refused it, having bought a "posh" shirt [hah!] already.)
Spirit Level cufflinks £3, seen on a website for £12.75 ("Don't go with his shirt" - yes but will get the intelligent girls coming over to investigate & laugh & if that isn't a good start...!) Still, style will not fade while awaiting some other event in my Useful Box & botherations that women are called such names for playing with chaps toys.

An owl patterned bamboo reusable coffee cup, RRP 5.99, labelled £3.49 & mine for £1 from the hospice shop. Sippy size but Very eco-box-ticking & I think waitrose size anyway

(I bought a pack of black socks in the supermarket - The Wrong Sort & was dragged back to exchange them, but hurrah Asda were utterly sweet & exchanged them for The Right Sort without a cheep.)

The lad lunged for a Eumig p8 projector "as it looks like something out of Blade Runner" for £10, still with its price (in lsd!) on the box. (We will now have to get some film to watch it with!)

Himself swooped as determinedly on a Streich-Riemen razor stop (seen on ebay for £15+, ours from Cancer Research for £4 & he *already* has packets of the paste - It Was Meant!)

We are self medicating for heat & stress with a hot bath, icecream and cold drinks. Not wholly simultaneously, but nearly.

Yesterday I got a brand new pair of Cath Kidston oven gloves, the traditional style (one long piece with two hand holes) in red floral for £2.99, a lovely duck egg blue recipe tin with metal dividers and name tags for £1.25. DH got an Old Guys Rule t shirt for £2.59, and DD got the compete works of Jane Austen for 99p.
