  • If you have left over juices from a cooked chicken in a jug once its cooled down the fat will be on the top, so skim it off and use the jelly like stuff underneath as stock base for soem delicious home made soup.

I usually save mine in a soup bag in the freezer until I have enough for the base.I don't often cook a whole chicken so a couple of chicken thighs will give me about a cup of stock so I wait until I have enough to do a big pot of soup.
Its a nice freebie from the chicken.Sometime I will rescue the finished carcass from my DDs and bring it home and freeze it, or chuck it into the slow cooker and cook it for an hour or so to get all of the juices and odd bits of left over chicken I strain it through a sieve and leave in a jug to cool then skim off any fat.

Still no need to shop for a few more days and using up what I have in store at the moment

I’m confused by the costing you have? How are you working it out?

    Tin tomatoes 30p - 23.75p?

Sorry if I’m being thick but I may have missed something!

sorry 23.75p was for meal . 1/2 tin tomatoes -15p half bag of salad was 5p . 1/4 of chicken (reduced from £3 down to 15p) was 3.75 altho i didn't buy the chicken lol:T

  • few spends i must add on

1.20 work lunch and coffee. was so cold out i needed something hot from canteen
i used my £5 rewards voucher plus 4p over for things like milk ,

Then 5.18 in asda but am thinking i will get quite a good asda proce gurantee voucher back . Happy to stock up on very cheap yogurts if i can get them.

I do have a question. Not sure where people are getting long life milk as cheaper than fresh? the best i can see is 1 litre for 57p . Fresh 3.odd litres is 1.48 so freah is cheaper

cheapest i can see dry milk is £1.88 for 300g 20g is a serving which makes 200 ml? not sure now lol but it seems such a pain

will update sig tomorrow then next task is to sort out shopping apps that reward on groceries

Hi, been reading your challenge with slight fascination, feel a bit of a voyeur (sorry) but anyway, I have found uht milk at 49p in both tesco (savers own brand) and Aldi. Hope that helps.

I buy Aldi's long life at 49p and its very good I never end up binning any as it has never (so far in two years ) ever gone off.I used to buy a big one pound a time jug from Icelands but as I only really use it for myself and tea or coffee I would usually find it went off before I could finish it(only so many scones I can make/eat :))the UHT is far better as I use around 1 carton a week, I make rice pudding/custard with tinned evaporated milk anyway.

Still have my purse firmly closed at the moment and no shopping to buy so far since my last shop,Only thing on my shopping list right now is eggs as I am down to my last two but they can wait until later this week, hopefully Saturday

ooooh if that is the litre then thanks . its still cheaper for me to buy normal as i get 10% discount on the 1.48 plus morrisons points . i will look out for some deals during year to bulk buy

    challenge update
on £29.41 . Not bad . I am totally stocked up on like breakfast/lunch products for several months if i am totally honest.

Out of all my spends the problem is on the go food and work . Work has a really cheap canteen plus there is nowhere i could just use hot water and bring in my own teabag :(

My total has included non essential snack foods, cakes ,donuts ..i could have been at least a few quid cheaper if i had cut out completely but a girl needs a treat :A

    Spends until end of month
Muller yougurts - asda have these on 12 for £3 plus with the price gurantee you are getting quite a bit of cost back.- i spent £4.18 yesterday and have £3.65 back in voucher to spend today. I might end up over on the month but these are dated quite far into feb so will cut Feb cost. If i can resist pigging out on them they will do for work and stop me buying there.

Diet wise - been trying loads of different veg /salad packs. Good way to try them but i cant help it i still don't like lol.

will update spends later in week after a few asda trips haha

Sainsbobs own brand dried milk powder is £1.67 for a 300g bag. So, if 20g = 200ml, a bag would make 3ltr (5.25 pts).
Be kind to others and to yourself too.

so cheaper with fresh then? i use milk for a lot of things.i could see a saving if i just bought smaller amounts at a time

just had a thought - my total includes 9.97 on hairdye might take this out and add in the asda totals . I was a bit  with current totals but jan has turned into a complete cupboard stockup so might be nearer £40 (including the hairdye lol)
