Has anybody had any dealings with the techguys?
We bought our hewlatt-packard laptop about 10mths ago, untill now it's ran fine untill the right button went under the control pad,
took it back to pc-world where we bought it and all the manufacturers who sell in there stores-comet and currys included use the techguys for repairs,
assume the manufacturers have given them the authorisation,
Anyway they have had it a month, and as of yesterday have no time scale on when the parts,a mainbored will be here.
It was taken away via couriour and never seen it since.
Any advice on what to do.

assume the manufacturers have given them the authorisation,
Why would you assume that. It's got nothing to do with the manufacturers unless the Tech Guys decide to send the laptop to the manufacturer. When you say Tech Guys what you are really saying is PC World. There's no difference. Currys is the same company. I doubt the Tech Guys work in Comet as they are a competitor who have launched their own pc repair brand.
Nobody needs authorisation from a manufacturer to repair their products.
Call them up and demand to have it back. Better still put it in writing give them a deadline. If they don't comply then your only recourse is likely small claims court under the Sale of Goods Act in which repair time must be reasonable."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

the last time i took my daughters laptop in for a new screen they said it was going to be 4 to 6 weeks put still had to case it up. she has there insurance (she has no home insurance yet)there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff0

The manufacturers have nothing to do with it. You bought the PC from PC World, so PC World are responsible for repairing it.
You might want to look up the Merchantability of Goods Act to see what rights you have. Bear in mind that the fault occurred just 10 months after purchase, and an item such as a PC could reasonably be expected to last longer than this without fault.
I certainly hope you're not paying the Tech Guys - the repairs should be fully included, whether you bought additional insurance or not!0 -
I took the laptop back to pcworld they said i need to talk to the techguys which are instore, got put on the phone and they said it needs to go for repair,
weather they send it to hp i dont know as i have had an update but its the techguys not hp that call me.
i spoke to trading standards and they say after 6mths up proving it wasnt fit for the purpose now stands in my court.
Were not paying them as its warrenty
pc world put you to the techguys simple as so probably gonna go round in circles,
looking at the techguys website-comet-currys and pc-world all use them.0 -

I think you missed my post. They are NOT used by Comet as Comet is a competitor who have started their own pc repair company. As for Currys and PC World, they are the same company as the Tech Guys. It's like saying PC World uses PC World employees. This doesn't give them any more legitimacy that they work for various parts of the same company."She is quite the oddball. That is incorrect. Tech Guys who broken machines are sent to (and who you call for support) is run by Capita and is an independent group who is contracted by Dixons Group PLC to manage repairs. Capita specialise in this kind of stuff.
Before anyone starts, I live in the city where they're based and was working for them when Capita took over (and service began to suffer). They are NOT part of PC World et al. Used to be called PC Servicecall. They are part of Capita.
HP repairs are carried out by yet another contractor whose name I forget, but this is booked via Tech Guys in the usual way. This is by agreement with HP.
The availability of parts usually isn't down to Tech Guys (or the contractor) but HP supplying them.
Remember the 6-week rule if they don't fix it.
Don't get sucked into making silly ultimatums or getting the machine back unrepaired just to feed other peoples hatred of PC World (especially seeing as this ISN'T PC World who are at fault) - just play the game according to the rules and you'll get it fixed or get it replaced.0 -

That is incorrect. Only the call centre is run by Capita. All other operations of the Tech Guys is run directly by DSGi. They are the result of a merger between PC Servicecall and Mastercare repair division. Tech guys is fully owned by DSGi."She is quite the oddball. DSGi has no facilities for handling repairs of any kind unless they are in-store. In-warranty repairs are not handled in-store. It has contracted out to Capita.
Don't suppose the worst to prove the worst
The OP needs to play according to the rules and he'll get what he wants - just like that other one did a few days agoTry and be clever and the counter goes back to zero plus you get a lot of extra hassle. Not worth considering.

I just had another thought: if the store IS trying to fix it, make damned sure they don't and that they send it to the people who should be.
Like I said, HP repairs are done by a contractor and the store shouldn't be poking around inside them inside 12 months or when in-warranty.0
