Ever so helpful KC, thank you!

I was thinking of this type of fire pit Dry stone fire pit

One of the less elaborate ones of course :rotfl: Something we could sit round of an evening :j But it's not exactly a priority job so it might never happen :p

Hope you have sunshine like we have today :)
Omigod, those are beautiful, Cheery! I didn't even realise that thats what they were called :o There's one in the very top right hand corner, with seats built in around it - I was at a rural camp that had a setup like that, absolutely wonderful. And a simpler type would still be perfect, private property or not. As you say, not a priority but a wonderful way to use the land and your facilities.

    Enjoy your afternoon.
Thanks beanie - I did! We walked along a nature path converted from an old railway - I was very, very tired when I got home, glad to just sit down :o

I think if I lived somewhere with public transport I wouldn't bother to own a car at all nowadays. As it is with no bus service nearer than 3 miles away and that's only a sporadic one a car is a lifesaver to me. OH has a car but he's often out when I need to get to somewhere else so sharing the one car is not what I'd consider unless really pushed. We do travel together if heading for the same place or the same direction where one of us can drop the other off en route and pick up again on the way back but I'd hate that if it was my only permanent option.
You're so geographically isolated, CBC, I can understand that you absolutely *need* a car. And you're right, I have excellent public transport - half a dozen trains an hour up and down the local route, connections to other routes, as well as local buses in the daytime. That's what I use to get to my sister's, it's a country bus - feels like you're at sea in a storm, as it crosses several little river systems :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

We live in a town and there's a bus stop just across the road, but I don't think, even though I don't need a car for work, that I could give my car up - it's my independence :o
I absolutely understand that! Even when I was hardcore Green, I spent a fair amount on taxis :)

I once had a major emergency when I was carless and here on my own and needed to call a taxi to come out here to pick me up. No near neighbours and no one I knew was contactable by phone at home (pre mobile phone days:eek:) so I rang several of the taxi firms in Yellow Pages. The eventual cost was astronomical as they had to add on the time and the 7 miles taken to even get here for me, plus the journey back in the same direction. Some of the firms wouldn't take the job on as it was too far and they only stuck to 'local' jobs:(. Anyone would think they were entering bandit country:eek:

Awww - CBC - I feel for you!

Heaven forbid I ever need to get to the train station on my own from our rural location! A 2.5 hour walk or a 50 pound taxi ride!!! And that's if I pre-booked!:eek::eek:

One day my boss asked if I could arrive early to set up for a special event - when I told her the extra cost I'd be claiming back, she told me to have a nice lie-in!;)

Taxis! When I used to use them regularly, it was very rarely *from* my house, more usually to return, because that city was divided into 20 taxi zones, and I lived in the very last one, and no taxi driver would voluntarily go there. Not as bad as you two guys, but bad enough!

It *has* passed, thank you PP - the chronic fatigue really has gone, I think, it's just that I have no stamina at all because of how long I spent just wafting around my house between the dishwasher and the tv :( I'm still being cautious because I don't want to pick up a lurgy just before the holibob, but it really is just about stamina now. And drinking enough water :o:o:o

Afraid cars are my 'green' downfall KC! :o Although I know that having an older one is much much better for the environment in terms of cradle to grave costs than even replacing once every 5 years or so. As I don't use mine every day, I think my impact is limited.

    Have a lovely Thursday!
