I see what you mean about the car thing, that would definitely help.

I think if she's 'dried up' (sorry, horrible description, but I'm sure you know what I mean!) by tomorrow, then I think I'd risk it (with all the mentioned precautions) but when you're in full snotty cold mode, germs will fly whether you like it or not!

I agree with the rest. I work with children and it's rubbish when they share their germs with me. If I could avoid it, I would.

It would be worth speaking to her this afternoon/evening and then making your final decision. She may be under or over egging it. But then again, she may not feel up to going if she's feeling rubbish x

And the winner is ... everyone!  She really doesn't feel well enough to do anything outside, especially with the winds forecast down here, and it *will* be outside, so we're not going.  I was kind of prepared to do what madvix suggested - go along, with all due precaution, if she's "dried up" (what a gruesome, but so accurate, phrase that is 🤣 ).  I'm so grateful to all of you for not making me feel like a dope for not wanting to be exposed to germs that knock me for six.  Having the decision done with has actually given me an energy boost - the porch *is* getting cleared 😁 - which is how I know it's the right thing.

In clearing the envelopes that have built up, I've found 3 pieces of correspondence dealing with my complaint about Saffron BS, they let me spend hours opening up a tricky account and funding it, and then closing it the day my money got to them.  All three letters are about upholding my complaint!  I asked for £10 reimbursement, for my time and inconvenience, a token amount, obviously, and though they've upheld the complaint, there's no mention of the £10 anywhere 🤣  I think I might just scribble on one of them and send it back.

Also, Principality.  They're the main people I use for my monthly money shuffle to fulfil my banking T&C.  And they wrote me a letter confirming the money move.  In my online account.  For Pete's sake!  Such a waste of time and environmental resources.

Anyway, I'm a happy camper, even if I'm missing out on the archaeology day, I have the energy to do what really needs to get done around here, and I'm not currently coming down with anything awful.

Though I suspect that the polenta in my slow cooker is pretty much a tragedy in the making 🤣🤣🤣

Glad you made the right decision for you. And yay to the porch being cleared.

    How was the polenta after?

Ha, thanks for that question 🤣  When I switched it off, it was coming away from the side at the top, which is what's recommended, but it was still quite sloppy.  It was also recommended to give it a really good stir and put it in a storage container, and I didn't do that.  But I know why it's recommended 🤣  it cooled down to solid-but-flexible, and if I'd put it in a square container, it would be wonderful for making chips!  It's a bit like mash - but it's well known to be fairly tasteless.  So I'm going to roast it later on, and I'll let you know how it tastes.

It's a long process, but since I have the food, I might as well use it.  And I've come across a FODMAP list from Gloucester NHS online The Low FODMAP diet (gloshospitals.nhs.uk) which gives polenta a tick.  There are several things on there that I use regularly that don't help (cashew nuts!  sultanas!), but I'm not actually chucked out food unless it's actually gone poisonous 😏 so it's a question of using everything up.

For now, off to do some weeding and hang the washing out - gusting at "only" 35mph, and this is as quiet as it's going to get, that will hurt my jaw muscles.  Sigh - always something!

Hope everyone has a lovely day 🌞

Morning!  I've had a couple of successful days on the baby HW, more than £10 from Big Wins 😁 so very happy with that.  I've also been tidying up bookmarks, checking out road corners round here to see how people manage it (not a lot in the weekend winds, to be honest) and working on the genealogy - getting a probate listing only costs £1.50, so I bought 3 I was interested in.  The polenta experiment seems to have worked, though it's a bit expensive in some ways: it needs 4 - 5 hours in a slow cooker for it all, and half an hour in the oven (!) for each portion.  I've since found better recipes for savoury elements, so I'll give those a go (and the sweet ones too 😁).

So today, get the dishwasher sorted, back up computer, phone call about the diary for this week, then a massive tidy and clean downstairs, colour me embarrassed - I've been limping along with a fairly clogged washbasin, and it's got beyond me, and doing it myself, while I could learn the skills from youtube videos, would take everything I've got for the whole week.  So that's a no-go!  I just want everything easily cleaned to have a plumber in the house.

Hmm, well quite a lot of that to-do list is carried over to today, even backing up the computer - I wanted to get to a certain point with the genealogy writing.

Fairly ordinary experiment today with the slow cooker - green and red lentils, a handful of barley, a finely chopped onion and a load of mixed herbs (from the Canaries cruise, don't shoot me 🤣 I've been wondering what it would be like, and I keep on not putting some beans on to soak, so I decided to do it today.  It's already on, so that's definitely happening :)

I also phoned the local library: I'm going to have an expedition tomorrow, to get lots and lots of 1921 census records.  If you do it off your own bat, its still impossibly expensive, but its completely free at the library.  I just need to make sure I have the library card and up to date details.  I'll borrow some e-books today, to make sure of it 😁 I'll also have to download the new app to do that.

Definitely going to contact YG today too, still no sign of the Asda voucher.

And I *swear* I'm going to faff about with the washbasin - a dishwasher tablet has been mentioned, so I'm going to try that.

Ooh, that's excellent about the 1921 census - I'll have to investigate that at my library. Enjoy your expedition!

How long has YG been? When it was money it tended to be a 30 days thing - is it meant to be quicker now?
