I'm back & you are spot on. Glad you spotted the initial hiccup yourself, much nicer than having someone else do it for you. Actually though it is much easier doing self assessment, which I used to have to do, than it is dealing with the new simple assessment as it almost always wrong.2

Thanks badmemory! So it's that 1 week old rate/51 weeks new rate thing? That's the way to submit it?
I've kept to my word today: no finances, just shredding and Christmas cards. I've done almost half the cards, and first I had to sort who was getting what (I'm skimping on card numbers - this year, I'm going to buy some in the sale, hoping there is one, the ones I'm sending were bought full price last week!).
Off out soon for 20 minutes cutting back fast-growing laurel hedge.2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
Just the total. It is relatively easy to work out if it should be 1+51 or 52. If say your payday is a Wednesday. You will get a letter telling you that from a certain date say 10th you will get the increased rate. Then if any day from the 6th to the 9th is a wed then it is 1+51.I've got my cards out - does that count as a win? I am always late even if I start early. I have to do them at a reasonable time this year as I have some old type 2nd class stamps to use which are not worth sending off but I would hate to waste.2

Right, I'll work on the tax tomorrow, though once again the Christmas cards take priority. Thanks for the additional info, badmemory. And yes, getting the cards out counts as a win 😀 I've used the new computer-friendly stamps today, but I do still have a few older ones - maybe I'll look at those tonight so they're ready to go.
I did a couple of emails today, but I need to do 3 tomorrow, and I'll be talking to my sister too. And like today, I'll be shredding (maybe 15 minutes, I'm so dedicated 🤣). And cutting back the laurel. This is all stuff I usually do in January and February: next year, I'm *determined* to manage to plant what I want to plant in the garden2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
Well, I *didn't* work on the tax today, or the emails, or the garden, partly because I slept so badly it was 9am before I even made it downstairs 😲 Long talk with sister, mostly about teething, and my time has been split mostly between shredding and Christmas cards. Three still not done, but that's okay. And I got another 6 2nd class stamps worth from my pre-computerised stamps, didn't think I had that much available to me - I won't use more than 3 stamps per letter 🤣 anyway, that's about £4 saved. Will definitely be buying Christmas cards in the sales, for the first time for years.
The other victory was in collecting together needlework and some craft stuff into a single box - and I was hunting one last item, a "flexible curve ruler", I really like it, and my brain runs riot when I think what I could do with it. Found it! And that's the very reason I'm collecting stuff together, rather than *only* putting like with like. I'm a bit smug, right here 😁
Off to find something to eat right now, though.2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
Oooh, what can be done with a flexible curve ruler...???

Well I know what I used to use one for.

🤣🤣🤣 you norty people! I have design ambitions, if only to finally make my own Christmas cards, with a curve of glitter on them rather than a splodge 😁
Dear me, though, it's a bit nippy at the moment, isn't it ... I haven't had a shower for a few days, so I *really* need one, and I'm gathering the fresh clothes, hairdryer, moisturiser et al in the warm room by the bathroom so I don't need to go into the, lets say, less heated areas of the house. Jolly glad I've had the pneumonia vaccine 😲
ETA - today is all about finishing the cards - three Christmas and one birthday - one more bit of shredding then it can go into the relevant bin, and probably some of the emails after I've disappeared into the bathroom. Might be nice to empty the vacuum cleaner too 🤣 Definitely going to take the weekend off - it might need to be inside, it's painful to be outside for very long with the jaw pain, but I'll be doing nice stuff, not slogging2023: the year I get to buy a car1 -
Cards are sent, though heaven only knows if they'll ever get anywhere: several people told me they'd posted one to me, before I posted mine, and haven't arrived yet. But because they're done so early, I may do something I haven't done for ages: put some decorations up! Not many, just a few, though they will include fairy lights, actual fairies may pop in, you never know.
I'm going to set aside some time for finance today: bringing more euros back from France, inputting some figures I have ready into my tax return, possibly exploring the shares I have and how to declare them, rather than ringing up the company and begging for help, which is what I've done the last few years (they're on a reinvestment scheme, and the methodology is simple but not memorable).
First things first, though: my mahonia, and next door's box hedge, are both leaning, badly. They were before the snow, but now it's horrendous. Still freezing out there!2023: the year I get to buy a car2 -
Ooh, cards and decorations, how lovely 😊😊 Not convinced mine are even going to get in the post before I finish work so who knows if they'll ever get there 🙄2
