This has in a way brought back some memories.  I say in a way because I don't remember when I learn to either knit or sew.  One grandmother knitted all the time & the other sewed.  I just remember always being able to.  I know that needlework lessons in grammar school were absolute torture.  It was supposed to take a term to make something.  I mean really a whole term.  I couldn't even do the weekend.  I can still remember my mother's expression of total disgust when she saw our summer school uniform dresses.  They call that a gathered skirt & as for the way the seams were finished!

Fascinating to know our similarities and differences in relation to sewing, knitting too.  And yep, I don't remember learning how to knit, I just know.  I *do* remember learning how to tell the time, by the way, I was in top infants or first year junior, and I felt very helpless from not knowing how to understand clocks, so I got the toy one we had, with tabs that pulled out and pushed in, shut myself in the kitchen one evening, and studied it till I understood  ⏰.  If I really, really want to do something, I'll do it (barring illness, which is more and more of a bar these days, but never mind!).

Took me blimmin ages to learn how to knit as I'm left handed.  Tying shoe laces was similarly tricky to learn and I think I do them very differently to other folk still.
  • I can knit basic, but I really don’t enjoy it. However my DD refused to let influence her and taught herself to knit. She loves all that sort of stuff, crafty hobbies.

Me too! My mother tried to teach me how to knit, but apparently I held the needles wrongly. Something to do with being left handed, apparently.  (Ha ha predictive text was suggesting the word after 'being' should be bone idle 😄, that about covers it when it comes to domestic tasks).

I’m left handed but knit right handed because my Nan taught me that way. Not great at it (basic is my limit), but don’t think that’s why - it’s the correcting errors and understanding what’s happening with the yarn that I struggle with!

Gosh, it shouldn't surprise me that left handed people find knitting difficult, but it does.  Dopey woman, I am!  That's very tough.  I used to be a right hander, but the arthritis in my right shoulder got so bad, I taught myself to use a computer mouse with my left hand, so I've got more neurons connecting up and whatnot on that side now 😲  But when its simply expected, like for knitting, that must be so, so difficult.  Kudos to all you lovely people, for keeping on with it or turning away from it as you see fit.

Today, I've been using a piece of very narrow knitting - literally 4 stitches on a row - as a piece of ribbon.  I've also used a single strand of some very fancy "art" wool I bought ages ago, very chi-chi 🤣 I haven't done anything else today, I've had my sister round, we've been setting the world to rights 🌈⭐🎄 I even relaxed afterwards with a little bit of biographical writing for a genealogy case.  But tomorrow I have two obligations to get an email done.  Those are the most important things, no two ways about it.  I won't come on here till I've done them, thats how important they are!

Hurray, I did the email!  I also put the washing machine on, and I'm drying it next to an open window, sometimes the heat is on, sometimes not, so it doesn't actually steam up.

Footling about this afternoon doing online shopping and the furushiki for my nephew.
