Yay RT - that's the *real* essence of human beingness
good for you
I've had a strange half hour with Virgin Money. I chose them for current account shenanigans because I had a defunct Regular Saver with them, but it doesn't show any more on the new account details. So it looks like I have two accounts with them now. It's still earning 0.35%, which is ridiculous, but it would earn 0.5% if I transferred it to the new savings account I had to open when I opened this current account. Okay, that would work. I'll log out of the new accounts and see if I can still log on to the Regular Saver. Here's hoping.

It's not mutated into an ordinary savings account has it KC? My regular savers all seemed to do that as soon as they came to an end (I think they kept the same account number though). I'd assume they would know that though so it sounds like something more peculiar has happened - hope you can sort it out soon!
Yes, these ridiculous things are often part of being human. I do often think (and I'm sure we've had these conversations here before) - what happened in previous decades, before having multiple bank accounts and switching insurance etc was common or even possible? Clearly life had other hardships and nuisances, but there can't have been this constant financial admin?? I wouldn't want to go back to a time without phones etc (!) but I do sometimes wish for the simplicity of having less choice when it comes to certain things!! 😂4 -
I thought you had a strange half hour with the Virgin Mary!!! Oops.

It *has* mutated, you're right, Cheery - but its under a different user name and password, that's my problem - no simplification there at all! Rather than phone and ask them to transfer it, I might give myself an easy Out and close the account then send the money straight to the new current account/saver, rather than explaining the situation and security-proofing the phone call. Life's too short! And it would simplify things very quickly.
Absolutely there wasn't the same amount of financial admin in the past - people like us didn't have the money that we do, I don't think - certainly my parents didn't, the classic "man from the Pru" called round each month, and that was that. When I went to college, it took me ages to learn how to write out a cheque and manage the account, and I used to wonder why my parents didn't show me (my mum was an infant school teacher). They didn't show me because they didn't have bank accounts!
Apple - I guarantee I've had no interaction with the Virgin Mary2023: the year I get to buy a car4 -
Right, what am I going to do today? My gardening was very bitty yesterday, but what I *could* do is finish off the last bit of protecting the new fence from the soil underneath. I need to do a bit of weeding of the areas where I put the soil. Also need to get rid of the ivy underneath the leylandii in the front, the green bin will be coming on Tuesday. And my list of stuff to do (Virgin account; apply for bus pass; experiment with booking 2nd vaccine, and plant seeds) still holds true).
Crucial at some point today: find what fun can be had! Also part of being human2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -
At least these days most of our financial fiddling around can be done from home. Spending hours queueing in the gas showroom, then the electricity showroom to pay the bill wasn't my idea of fun back then. Council tax could only be paid in either one or two lots. Also my home & contents insurance is still only about a third of what it was when we HAD to do it via the building society. The thought of having to do that in the current virus situation is enough to make you shudder. Then there are the shops all closing by 6pm & lunch time on Saturday & not open on Sunday. Working full time was a completely different challenge from what it is now. Not harder but just different.I also wouldn't contemplate carrying around the amount of cash these days that I did back then, but we were charged per tranaction. No free banking!5

Sure you’ll rattle through that to do list xDFW (08/08) £64,346.53 Gone (02/19)

badmemory - yes! I think I always paid my utilities by post, but other things, I *do* remember queuing for, yuck. Love being able to do it online, too right
debtfree - thanks! Erm, I did the soil shifting, and the ivy culling, and the fun (zombie fic written by a young American woman, totally different from anything I've ever read, it's great. I'd prefer no zombies, but I like end of the world stuff, so there we go).
I'm pleased I did the garden - one more bit of soil shifting, and its done, apart from where the decking is slowly falling to pieces at the end of the garden.2023: the year I get to buy a car5 -

I've been doing bits online - changed my click and collect to a delivery the next day - Sainsbo have a new system where you book a 4 hour time slot, and only get told the one hour slot within that on the day of delivery. Fine with me, I'm not exactly going anywhere right now! And its only £1 - that works well for me, though they still didn't have any of the particular brand of feta I prefer. Such is life.
Also emails to my rediscovered friend and her husband (very helpful on the electric bike research!) and a cousin who also dabbles in genealogy. Okay, that's not nothing.
Today ... dear me, almost midday. Finish digging out the soil from under the fence, I reckon - some of it can go where I've cleared the ivy at the front. I've got the right page open to apply for a bus pass - just need to collect the documents now, I'll do that while I'm cooking my lunch early. It's Sunday, I'm not even going to *try* to do a full day2023: the year I get to buy a car3
