...So, today is crunch time for the French email.  Google's English-French dictionary is open on another tab.  A lovely friend is going to proof read it, and that, more than anything else, will mean I'll be able to do it today.  I'm not concerned about *sending* it today, but doing it would be great.  More later :)
    Bonne chance ma chère
    Merci beaucoup!Cheery_Daff said:
    Good luck!

Our local transition group runs a 'hard to recycle' system where they collect everything from crisp packets to toothpaste tubes. I confess I've not made use of it yet... partly because they don't collect from any of the places we go to, and then I forget all about it. And I confess I already forgot about giki, oh dear!!
Woo hoo, I did it!  More accurately, my friend did it, and I cut and pasted it **parties on**

Cheery, that's very interesting about the hard to recycle collection.  There's Terracycle here, and I think they're streamlining collection points, there used to be 3 or so, for a fairly small town, for individual little bits.  I just had some Carex handwash delivered that names Terracycle as it's eco-recycler of choice, so there's obviously moves behind the scenes - let's face it, even glass and newspaper recycling was voluntary, at community halls, once upon a time.  It will come.

The Giki thing is interesting - I've gone through my status quo with everything except water, and that already put me as having achieved a tonne of carbon saving - I like the "steps you've committed to" thing on there, because thats another form of to-do list.  But it's a complicated site, very worthy but for me it's a bit too interactive for it's own good.

Not surprised you've forgotten it already Cheery -  I know it's got things like plant woodland, keep animals etc, but I think it's mostly for small scale achievements, like mine :)

Not without typing giki into google and finding one 😋😂 And I'm sure you're capable of that yourself 😁 Someone else put us on to it a couple of weeks ago, and I am so embarrassed that I can't remember who!! Sorry!

I don't think I've even looked at it since the first time, oh dear!

That's the one, sorry for the absence.  It was madvix that mentioned it.   I just clicked Cheery's link, and fortunately I'd already ticked the "stay logged in" box.  When I joined, they awarded me 395 points to for age, house, vegetarianism etc.  Now I've done all the things, I've got 784 points, and it tells me that through doing that I achieved the "cut a tonne in 21" challenge (ie a tonne of carbon).  I'm down from the UK average almost to the global average, which is a lot less, of course.    You can commit to trying steps, which are very varied: sharing Giki (which I've just done now  >:) ), buying fruit and veg locally (there's *one* fruit and veg shop in my town, I think, more than twice as far as the supermarket, and I'm on delivery only for the foreseeable).

Interesting step to commit to is washing my hair with a bar of shampoo - it avoids the plastic bottle, and they say that the bars have fewer chemicals than the liquids, apparently.

I tried a shampoo bar & it did not suit my hair at all.
Left it feeling limp & sticky.  Not for me!
