I actually came online again to make some notes to myself about the French figures for the accounts (i.e., don't bother reading any further!).Β My total lack of effort in downloading monthly statements has come back to bite me severely
Β
Β it's like the shark bite of the finance world
My bank statements from France went online when coronavirus hit; they'd tried to do it to me before, but they make no bones about charging for a paper version if it's needed for one piece of admin or another, so I'd originally insisted they go back to paper, much as I dislike the environmental impact.Β Well, as I say, once corona hit, that all stopped, and I was okay with that.Β But I wasn't downloading the monthly statements ...
I need the statements for April 2019 to March 2020, for my English accounts.Β I need the statements for January 2020 to December 2020 for my French accounts (in about two weeks time - they don't mess about in France when it comes to tax declarations!).Β Β Β
I have the statements up until December 2019.Β I have the statements from 1st June 2020.Β Which means there's an unpleasant five-month-gap in the statements.Β I managed to get the information from the listing, as opposed to the statement list, but I've no idea if that's good enough.Β It will be for the UK, of course - I think it will be for France too, except if they get tetchy because of Brexit, but we'll see.Β They cost at least Β£10 each, so 5 would be pretty expensive, I don't want to do it if I don't have to.
I really didn't mean to be doing this at this time of night, but once I started, I was terrified to stop and forget where I was in the processΒΒ

Little bit of a back track but I can definitely confirm I will always be in negative job territory as long as Mrs SJ is in control of the list. Bit of a long running saga but we've had an issue with the light bulb in the downstairs loo in that its been on its way out for about 12 months. Getting weaker and weaker to the point that the room still hadn't properly lit up by the time toileting duties had been completed. Anyway finally I did the honourable thing and bought a new light bulb. First time Mrs SJ went in she shrieked "Oh my God, this bathroom needs decorating urgently!". My error I suppose was tackling the tiny job of buying a light bulb thus giving myself a bigger job of decoratingΒMFW: Was: Β£136,000.......Now: Β£47,736.58......8

Oh my goodness I have just seen the list number creep up to 119! Surely not! Well done for going at it, and doing the French accounts. I know what you mean, sometimes just the thought of banking (its on my list too!) makes me freeze!Save Β£20,000 in 2025. April 2k, May 3.5k5

I finally sorted out logging in to our joint acc after over a year of not bothering... Shame on me!!! As long as dh could access it, I was happy. It took a firm phone call to them, insisting that I did NOT want to use the app, that I DID prefer using the magic key thingy. And, phew, they sent me a new magic key thingy. And I can see out joint acc once moreπ.

Thank you all
and oh, Jimmy, I *really* know what you mean, about one job leading to another.Β The other side of that, Earthie, is that a job needs things to be done in sequence - it took an hour to pay the fencer instead of what should have been a normal online transaction, because in trying to update my pin number for my debit card, I'd had it blocked, but I stopped the process halfway through, so it was *still* blocked.Β Β
The phone call was the temporary solution, but the long term solution is to go to an atm - I don't like it, but it's true.Β I've decided I'll go really early on Sunday morning - shops won't be open, no one else much will be about, and I'll have my sanitizer with me, of course.Β Might take a mask too, actually, although the atm is on the street.
I've only managed half an hour on the finances today: managed to talk to my brother for a good long while, which is important, and then the supermarket delivery arrived - substitutions all over the joint, some that weren't good.Β Between dried goods like peas, beans, nuts and rice, and frozen goods like everything else, I don't think I'll need to go to the shops before February!Β Which suits me just fine.2023: the year I get to buy a car3 -

Thanks RT!Β I've been distracted by a chat with sister this morning, and I remembered that I was going to buy some reduced rate Christmas cards.Β Found some *fantastic* ones at the Card Factory, 20 for Β£1 - dinosaurs!Β They were sold out though **sobs**Β Postage makes everything up to normal prices elsewhere, so there's no point buying now - if I see some this weekend that I like, I'll go for them, at appropriate prices
Β
I had an early lunch, then, ta-da!Β I can cross off an item on the big list (this item sent the list up to 120, so now its back to 119.Β 4.16% accomplished): home and contents renewed, up by Β£10 to Β£131.Β I'm okay with that.
This is the tricky bit: the above took all of five minutes.Β But doing the accounts is taking, much, Much, MUCH longeranyway, I've gone through the accounts papers, split them into tax years while chucking away unnecessary papers kept just in case.Β Found nearly all the paper copies of the missing French statements!Β And realised an easier way of doing things for keeping track of how much I spend on food: use the emails the supermarkets send, I keep them anyway, in a bills file!Β Easy peasy.Β I keep train/bus tickets too: the rationale was that if I got audited by the tax people, I could prove where I was and roughly what I was doing.Β Would they do that to me nowadays?Β I'm such small fry ... we'll see.Β Happy about the work I've done on it so far though
