Thanks Cheery, head is all gone now (in a manner of speaking :D),

Oh my word! Our bins are listed online (which I didn't bother to look at until after I'd put it out) so .... in my case, only myself to blame :) apart from the longrunning grump I have about the charge for the green bin being so high, which is why I bought a little £12 incinerator, to burn branches and twigs, can't compost everything, not enough room.

Well, *very* rainy today again - I was looking at the garden and saw "my" fox pelt from the nettles into better coverage, I think the rain woke him up :rotfl:

Huge achievement today! I cooked! I mean, I chopped up half a kilo of red onions, rinsed 3 portions of red lentils, threw in 200g of cashew nuts and a load of mixed herbs, watered as appropriate, and let it all do its thing. I literally can't tell you how long it is since I've done that, I'm ever so chuffed. Now I have a freezer I can rely on, there'll be a lot more of that going on. I know thats very ordinary, and it used to be ordinary for me, but not in the last five years or so.

Good cooking KC! :j :j Sounds tasty :j I was literally just this minute thinking I should get on the case with throwing something in the slow cooker myself else I'm in danger of eating cereal for every meal today

Good fox-viewing too! Although I confess I feel rather differently about them now I have chickens :o and would be very glad never to see one anywhere near my garden! :o

Raining LOTS here too, sigh. The builders are currently putting in a couple of windows and are getting rather soggy in the process!

Thanks Cheery! Yeah, I was hitting the Post button, I thought about you and edwink and the hens, and it didn't seem quite so cute any more to see the fox :(

Good luck with the slow cooker *and* the windows - new windows are bliss, they're so efficient now :)

Oh foxes are definitely cute, and I do love to see them - just not anywhere near my hens! :o Quite happy for them to be in your garden :)

Thanks for the reminder - I'd already got sidetracked and forgotten about the slow cooker :o :rotfl: Honestly, my head is all over the place today :o:o

One of the old window holes was literally just covered with a piece of plywood so I'm hoping it will be at least warmer than that!

    Absolutely, me too :D

I've been having a ball the last few days catching up on Bake Off, can't really describe it as a binge, but there are tendencies. I won't be buying a tv licence again till December, as I've got the trip up north next week, and a catsitting trip to London in the second half.

Actually managed to do some "gardening" at the tail end of the afternoon: I was cutting back the quince, which was desperately needed. Good quince crop this year too, maybe I can actually use it this year, that would be lovely.

Big suitcase has been packed away, woo hoo! I still need to give the two dresses I took along a bit of a handwash, but that actually takes approx 5 minutes in total :rotfl: I'm sure I can do that - I did my silk tunic today. And a lovely sturdy washbag that came with a Liz Earle gift pack. I do like a good washbag :)

Hope everyone has a good evening!

Oh no! Two power cuts *really* widely separated geographically :( RT, you sound brilliantly prepared, go you! I remember the same power cuts as your OH - Latin revision by the light of a Tilley lamp :) Beanie - I can be pretty lax about showers during a power cut :D but a cuppa tea is important enough for a camping stove! Positive vibes ...

Afternoon all :) Absolutely tipping it down outside, and I came in from gardening just in time - collecting up the hazel leaves, cutting back the neighbour's ivy at the back of my quince, pulling up the weeds in the path that were hidden by the overgrown quince :o the approach to my garden from my back door looks a lot nicer :)

Also started to pack and clean for trip up north next week - luckily my nice neighbour *never* goes away! Managed to send three texts, happy birthday to one nephew, catsitting query to my niece in law and "I'll be in touch" to my ex-colleague: got to do more reaching out. Right now though: a nice book :):):)

I was regaled with stories about 10pm lights out & 3 day working weeks - made me laugh as he's always adamant that across the pond feels 20 years behind the times to him, yet my part of "overthere" uses mostly hydro-electric, so we never have shortages!

Power came back about 2:20 this morning! - We forgot to turn the lights off, so were woken up by the kitchen light shining out into the garden & back into our bedroom:o Turns out that the crazy winds yesterday knocked over a few trees and somehow took out the local power station! Seven hours total - I'm so glad to have bought a freezer that lasts 24 hours without power!

We also forgot to turn the oven off as we had just served up dinner when everything went out! Luckily our very strange oven does not turn back on until it's reset, so no electric wasted there:T

OH's first priority this morning was to check the hot water for a shower and mine was to query our coffee status - so it seems that those are the priorities right round!:rotfl:

Can't believe you were out gardening this morning in this horrid weather - just Amazing!!
