Hi Karma, I'm no expert but have just managed a switch over of the domain for my oh's business. You probably know a lot of this so sorry if it's boring/useless.

Before doing anything I'd take a back up of your website and databases. You are the back up queen so imagine you'll have one!

It sounds like maybe you got a free domain name that had gridhost in it? If you continue to host and still own the gridhost domain name, you can redirect your site from your old domain name to your new domain name (a 401 permanent redirect). You can normally do this via your control panel. This means visitors to your old site would be automatically redirected to your new site.

I don't think having wordpress in the title is a problem, the adverts more so. I use 000webhost (free) you could see what the adverts are like over there? Also you can host a html website here if you prefer.

As for the subscribers it depends who owns the data. I'd imagine you own it? If so it should be accessible via your contact form database. You will have set the email from which the notification is sent to them - do you still own this email? If you do, then you can set up the exact same system on your wordpress site using a contact form plugin, and transfer your contact data across.

:hello::hello::hello: Hiya! It's good to be home :)

Earthie - that's all *very* far from useless, thanks for writing. My brain has been switched off for a couple of hours, so I won't go through it in detail right now, I'll do it tomorrow, I need a quiet day tomorrow because I've got this reunion thing on Saturday.

    Sleep well all :)

Absolutely, but always appreciate a reminder :)

No, I'm afraid not, thats part of the problem. Linkies to posts read: karmacat.co.uk.gridhosted.co.uk/wishIunderstood. As an example :D I bought the "karmacat" domain name (its not that, of course) about 4 years ago.

Ah! Now, thats worth knowing, thank you!

Just had a look at OOOwebhost, I can only see the website itself, of course. Part of me wants to see what *your* website looks like, so I can see what the adverts look like (and so I can see what you're doing :) ) but another part of me sees that they use FTP, and my gut reaction is no way, no how. Honestly, I'd rather stick where I am than go back to FTP, I hated updating my work website when I had to use that, that's not a good way forward for me.

Okay, that sounds possible! But more and more, I'm just thinking I'll stick where I am, and tweak the options for how the links to the posts are presented.

Really appreciate you taking the time to write this, especially when I know a little about how busy a schedule you have.

I've made myself take things very slow today: unpacking (I was sneaky and used the washing machine/dryer at the catsitting place, so not much hassle), tidying, sent off a birthday card, did a YG survey (160 points to go!), *really* focussed on SB (got a £5 Amazon voucher and could then get a full board Swago), opened the post (woo hoo! nothing urgent in there either).

I need to keep things really low key until I get to the reunion thing tomorrow. My dress is ready, I know where my go-to jewellery is, and I have a new mascara. I'd like to have been able to do a bit more, but there it is. What I *do* need to do is take some food with me. No way, right now, am I going to make something - so the only thing to do is visit Waitrose tomorrow morning, before the do on Saturday evening. Bit of a beggar, but there we go, its not much of a problem compared to what others are facing.

Thanks apple :) yep, it's all good. I've kept on being slow, though this evening I've been emailing back and forth with the firm that hosts my website. I couldn't even get the "lost password" email sent to me - and though they're suggesting a software fix (which I've no idea about) I do think it was my own fault for halfway setting up a dedicated email and abandoning it halfway :o:o:o so I got really fed up and deleted the whole email attempt :p Feeling quite blase about that at the moment, because really a halfway fix is no fix at all. Better just to use a gmail account, which I also opened.

Time will tell, but I'm shutting it down now, done enough on that.

    Have a pleasant wind-down, all, and a good night's sleep :)

Hi Karma, I've only spent a couple of hours setting up this website so far, but this is what it looks like on 000webhost

    https://debtfreemortgagefree.000webhostapp.com/

The domain name and hosting are free. If I decide to do more with it I'll buy a domain name and redirect the traffic.

I don't mind ftp and use it for this html site, but you could also have a wordpress site here. I find it easier with a wordpress site to avoid ftp due to the many plugins that you can use to do the tasks I had to do in ftp. I try not to add toomany plugins though as it makes the site slower so I still go into the file manager on occasions.

I'm sorry I can't understand why your file names are coming up with grid host!!

What a great start :j And you've got so much content there already :)

It's horses for courses, absolutely, it's just that I know from my previous experience that if I use ftp, I'll abandon the thing altogether :o Self knowledge is often useful, but sometimes not good :rotfl:

I'm sorry I can't understand why your file names are coming up with grid host!!
Don't worry! Again, to be honest, I think I may have contributed :o but there is a fix. I worry about people with old links, but I can't keep the links looking bad solely for that. A relaunch is a relaunch is a relaunch.

    Thanks greent :kisses3:

I'm still on course for that but I must say, I do *not* feel good right now :o:( very glandular, very ill, actually :( But with the "expanding my life" thing, I'm going to take a risk - I'm going to go to this thing tonight anyway. It's freaking me out, but I have to get to my ex-partner's place, he'll drive us to the village where it's being held, and drive me back directly to my house. It feels like that's overdoing it, but the worst part physically is the first bit. If it gets too much, I'll fade out somewhere, in his car if necessary. The worst that can happen is that I have a viral attack/ fatigue episode. At least I've retired, and I don't have to ring round my clients cancelling sessions, which was one of the things that kept me carrying on :o

    Crossing my fingers!
