I reckon my ineptness with cards in general beats anyone else's:o. Not exactly an achievement to be proud of though, is it?
In the old days when I was out and about in gift shops and so on I could never resist buying unusual and invariably expensive cards that I thought would really appeal to the recipients. These purchases were often months before the event they were destined for and, having been put somewhere 'safe', I either forgot I ever had them or they couldn't be found when the day approached. So I had to go out to a local shop which had nice but nothing special cards and buy last minute replacements. No wonder I ended up in debt, I've often had to buy replacements for all sorts of 'lost' things not just cards:o
Among my finds this past few days when having a major declutter of just about everywhere in the house were several of these previously lost cards. The stash includes a birthday card for my Dad (who died in 1996), one for my brother who died this year and a couple for my Mum who died in 2004, plus a Mother's Day card.. There's a Christmas card for Mum and Dad and a child's birthday card with ballet shoes and ballerinas on for my niece who's in her 40s now:rotfl:. I prefer 'open'/blank cards with lovely fronts that I can write my own greeting inside but my family all liked ones with verses inside and 'to Mum' or whatever on the front. I can't send these to anyone else now can I? They're all still in their cellophane packets so I'll take them to a charity shop this week.0 -
Lol - CBC you are not alone! - I have a welcome baby girl card for a little one who is now 5 and has a baby sister, as well as an unfinished knitted newborn sweater for a little boy who is now 13 - not to mention a condolence card for a friend who lost his mother 8 years ago - lol
I now stick to generic pretty blank cards & don't even bother to track who has received which one for which occasion - I figure it is the good wishes that count!:D4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! I'm delighted I'm not alone, on here anyway:T. When I was working I was always so super-organised (at work anyway) and colleagues would often come to me to help them sort out a chaotic mess that they'd got themselves into. In my private life I was and still am just the opposite and it was me floundering in a chaotic mess:o. My family and friends always have their private lives so well organised.
As for pretty generic cards I couldn't agree more:T. It's the thought that counts as you say and a lot of thought always went into choosing the right card. My family though were a bit 'funny' about cards and receiving one without a 'To.....' on the front and a 'suitable':rotfl: verse inside seemed to them to be a sign of my taking as little trouble as possible. I have so few close family left now, I've finally come into my own as far as card choices go:j0 -
Glad everything went through in the end Karma, although cross on your behalf about the indemnity - very annoying.
Does all this talk of cards mean I need to get them out and look? Really?I'm very much a it's-the-thought-that-counts person, and definitely *not* a verse/named card person. I'd quite like to do away with Christmas cards altogether (I quite like birthday cards etc.), but can't quite bring myself to do so.
Mortgage free 16/06/2023! £132,500 cleared in 11 years, 3 months and 7 days

CBC, it simply doesn't *matter*. To be "ept" (sorry, I couldn't resist) is useful - it's cheaper, for one thing, not to have to buy replacements etc - but is it more moral or anything? No. Big capital letters no. Nyet, nein, nicht, non, ochi (thats Greek), iie (thats Japanese). You catch my drift :kisses3::kisses3::kisses3:
Point taken. The voice of reason as always:A. I'm impressed you know some Japanese.
That's pretty spectacular, actually :rotfl: I reckon she'd be glad to get it for her next birthday :j
I can't even send it to her children as one is a boy and the girl is football mad. Plays in a team and spends all her spare time either watching football or training for it. She's anything but girlie. A ballet-themed card would probably be an insult:eek:0 -
I don't know any Japanese, sorry, CBC, I googled it :rotfl: I can lay it on a bit thick when I have another tab open on my browser :rotfl:
And as for sending the very old card ... I'd send it to the recipient it was originally meant for, along with a modern card if you likeit shows you've had her in your thoughts all your life!
I'm juggling at the moment - the heat is on v high, to try to dry off all that washing, so I'm switching stuff off the radiators they're lying on, and switching new stuff onto them. Pulling a bit of money into my current account, as I've seen Martin's latest deals are v good - £125 cash, though I'll have to remember to set up a to and fro of direct debits to meet the paying in requirements. Thats okay, that can be automatic. He's got a good Energy Club deal going too. I still haven't faffed around with the sim, but I can do that when its dark outside, and my current plan is to go plant some garlic bulbs - the cloves are just outside my kitchen window (near where the fox was!) and they sprouted in the last week. It'd be a shame to waste them, so I'm planting them.

I went back to Martin's page about mobile phones ... plusnet have a much better deal than giffgaff, but they wanted not only my bank details but also my credit card? Hmmm. I need to ask about that before I fill that in.
In the meantime, I applied for a new bank account£125 to switch to NatWest - recently, there were no cash incentives for switching at all, so I snapped that up, it finishes in a few days. It may cause a temporary problem with Amazon, who have an affiliate amount to pay me (tuppence?) but I'll take that risk
The garlic bulbs have been planted! Lots more to do, mind you, but I'm pleased, stopping now.2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -

My aunt bought me a very similar card (as in ballerina/ ballet shoes) for my 10th birthday - and mislaid it and ended up sending it to my daughter for her 10th birthday (almost 28 years later)I am the master of my fate; I am the captain of my soulRepaid mtge early (orig 11/25) 01/09 £124616 01/11 £89873 01/13 £52546 01/15 £12133 07/15 £NILNet sales 2024: £200
