CBC, thats a lot of kitchen woes for one woman! Hope you can get things sorted soon.
Betterthan, induction yes, thats the one I'm aiming for. I was in Curry's up on Merseyside t'other day, and saw a Zanussi gas oven and induction hob for £460, and I'm sure there are cheaper too. I really, really want that wipe clean surface, like I've never wanted anything in the kitchen before :rotfl:

Thank you:T. To be honest, I quite enjoy the challenge:rotfl:
I'm with you on the wipe-clean surface:T. As for one of your previous posts, if you're a bad person then so am I and probably millions of others too;)
Just a word of caution about induction hobs. Yes, they're really good but only certain pans will 'work' on them. Check first if yours will, unless you plan to invest in a new set.0 -
Don't blame you for wanting wipe clean - our cooker is an absolute nuisance to clean  (I mostly just don't bother
:rotfl: ) We have no mains gas here either, but we do have a large LPG tank - we have an electric oven and a gas hob and I figure that should one of them break we'll at least be able to cook SOMETHING :rotfl:

Hi Cheery
I don't usually bother cleaning either, but there comes a point where an ... aroma ... sometimes of burnt stuff, sometimes something else, becomes an issue.

Right, I need to move off this chair. my light won't go out, because I've discovered the Advent Comps Over £100 thread https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/75119715#Comment_75119715 and I need to know where I'm up to :rotfl: but I definitely need to get going.
Thank you lovely peeps :kisses3:2023: the year I get to buy a car0 -
We had our kitchen refitted 16 years ago, and up until that time I'd only ever used gas for cooking.
I had decided that I wanted an electric oven, but I was still intending having a gas hob.
The salesman recommended an induction hob, and I was very dubious about the idea. They let me play on an induction hob that they had set up in the showroom, and I was very impressed with it, so decided to go ahead with induction.
I had an AEG induction hob, and it served me very well, until it died on it's 15th birthday. (well almost to the day). I went out and bought another AEG, and it's better than the old one. From memory, it cost about £400, this was about a year ago.
One thing to consider is, are your pans suitable for induction. I think they have to have a magnetic bottom. When I originally got my first induction hob, I also had to get new pans.
Apart from that point, I con't think of any drawbacks to induction.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I must admit a flat top that wipes up easily is a boon given the naturally untidy tendencies of my OH who does most of the cooking these days!
When I'm feeling like a 'real' hob, I trek outside to the bbq which has a hob on the side and does amazing stir-fries!
(Cooking outside in the snow can be fun - just make sure you've salted the path to the bbq so you don't slip with dinner in your hands! - and also fingerless gloves and a toque are useful :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:)4 YEARS 10 MONTHS DEBT FREE!!! Ooh, the thing about what the pans are made of had come up, but I hadn't thought it through ... drat, my stainless steel pans aren't of the quality that will enable them for an induction hob (just tried them with a fridge magnet, they didn't pass the test). Cast iron, yes, but I can't lift cast iron regularly. Definitely going to have to do a lot of research, and hten have a good think. Thanks for all the input!2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Also if you enjoy doing stir fries then induction hobs are no good. They are however very easy to keep clean!A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

I had realised that, KC. I may be old but I'm not totally senile yet.
I was merely trying to give a bit of reassurance after you'd mentioned in several posts about having cleaning/non-cleaning issues with your hob. You're definitely not alone in that. My error was mentioning your baaaaaaaaad person reference. I should think before I type and hope that doesn't make me a baaaaaaaaad person;)
Have a good day:beer:0 -
Oops, CBC! No senility implied, I guarantee! I'll join you on thinking before posting, often enough - we can leap around the fields near you, going "I'm baaaaaaaaa, I'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaaa" wearing woolly jumpers (self image as Shaun the Sheep there :rotfl:). You have a good day too :kisses3:
Gally, my preconceptions about having an induction hob have been shattered! I don't particularly do stir fries at the moment, but I'd like to, for sure.
A modern gas hob might be easier - I've seen a few where *each* gas ring has its own support, and the metal seems to be much less dense than what's sported by my current hob. That might be easier to clean. I can't quite go with a barbecue in the snow like RT :rotfl:2023: the year I get to buy a car0
