#1. The people that run these "sell your house and rent back" companies are generally lying thieves and are best avoided

#2. This time next year house prices in general will be lower than they are now

#3. Cheap houses are a good thing not a bad thing

Jees!!! Multiple quotes, highlighting in bold and all on a Saturday night!!!!

You must be a woman or at least if your not then you must sit down to pee. I'd look over your old posts but to be honest I can't be arsed.

I'm off out. Enjoy your night/morning.

LOL - you make 'you must be a woman' sound like a criticism.

And if you haven't been bothered to look over my old posts, on what did you base your accusation that I'm bitter and cynical? Ah, that's right; nothing! It was unfounded tripe designed to discredit my opinion because it doesn't agree with yours. Very mature.

  • Well, all I have to say is good luck to your dad Argyll - it sounds like if he needs help his family will be there for him. He can sell up in a few years and get a really nice retirement flat ( and a few quid in his pocket). There is someone very close to me who made over 200k by buying their council house at the right time, and they weren't the only ones. And in response to the person who responded that they didn't need 'social housing' , maybe not but I bet you would have welcomed a £50K deposit towards your home!

    Unfortunately for me, how, exactly?

I'm not in the position of needing council or any other social accommodation and therefore don't fall into your 'most people... blah blah blah' category. The reason it matters to me and that I care is that I have a conscience. If you want to call that the 'high moral ground' then go ahead.

BTW when I said most people blah blah blah I didn't mean only council tenants. So unless you live in a tepee in the woods I was referring to you.

If you'd taken the trouble to read all the posts on the thread and inform yourself properly before posting, you'd know that NO, I wouldn't have welcomed a £50K deposit if it came as a result of depriving someone in great need of social housing. I and other posters have said that several times on this thread.

Personally, I find your gloating of £200K profits in very poor taste. It's to be hoped that neither you nor anyone you care about has to suffer the difficulties of living in a B&B or hostel due to lack of available suitable housing.

Most people who criticise people for buying council houses are those who aren't in a position to get one themselves.

Ah... it reads as if you were referring to people who wanted to get on the RTB gravy train but couldn't.

However, taking your clarification into consideration, the vast majority of people in the UK DON'T qualify for social housing and, therefore it's hardly surprising that the majority of opponents to the RTB system come from the majority of the population, is it? I think you'll find that in Wikipedia under 'Patterns of Distribution'.

Actually, everybody has a right to get on the council housing list. It's just that, with there being a shortage, not everybody has enough points to get to the top of the list.

That would be the not qualifying for social housing thing I was talking about.

LOL... we must be closer than you might imagine, Argyll - I say 'give your head a shake' all the time.

You choose not to believe that I would turn down £50k in order to validate your stance - that's your choice and says more about you than it does about me. Do you really think I'd go to the trouble of concocting a fake standpoint purely in order to have an argument with you? You flatter yourself.

There's nothing to argue about - it's a difference of opinion. It would have been nicer if you'd have managed to keep personal insults out of it but, well.... you didn't.

Glad you've dropped the whole 'this is my last post' facade though - we all knew you couldn't resist ;)
