Morning peeps. More snow overnight and it is still coming down now. Have to go out this morning. So not looking forward to that. Thermals pulled out again. Discovered a pair of thermal gloves that I forgot I had. They don't match any of my jackets or coats but who cares at least hands will be warm. Hope I find you all well. Good luck with comps.0

:hello: Good morning all, happy Collop Monday!
Brrrrrr! It's very chilly here this morning and Jack Frost has
paid us a visit leaving a light frost.
Thankfully though it's another sunny day so I can carry on
with more gardening today.
Double brrrrrrrr for you rose, don't blame you looking out
the thermals - take care when you're out walking. xx
The breaks you've arranged are wonderful places to visit
sheils, can vouch for them all. So sorry to hear about your Dad
though. Do hope he makes a good recovery. xx
About today .....
Collop Monday
Children playing Nick Nack on Collop Monday
:staradmin History of Collop Monday
Many people around the world have heard of Shrove Tuesday
otherwise known as pancake day, mardi gras or fat Tuesday.
However today, Collop Monday is much less known about, let alone
observed.
:staradmin What is a Collop?
Collops are slices of meat. Although there is some debate as to
where the name originated many believe it to come from the
Swedish word kallops, rather than from the French word escalope.
In England by the Elizabethan era, the name collops referred
specifically to slices of bacon.
:staradmin When is Collop Monday
Collop Monday is a moveable date but is always the Monday before
Shrove Tuesday and although it's not clear exactly when it came
into being, it was probably devised by Christians during the
Medieval period.
Also known as Shrove Monday, it was traditionally the last day to
cook and eat meat before Lent. It has to be remembered that
there was no refrigeration, so it is likely that the only meat
available at that time of year would be smoked or salted - usually
bacon or ham.
The tradition was established that on Collop Monday the bacon
would be fried and served with eggs, usually for breakfast - much
like today's traditional English Breakfast though the slices of bacon
were probably thicker - then the fat remaining in the pan from the
frying would then be used the next day - Shrove Tuesday - to
make the pancakes.

Morning all,
We have snow lying, was expecting there to be more through the night but thankfully not. Will be in Glasgow next Sunday and Monday so glad it isn't this week. Forecast for next weekend looks wet but hopefully not snow! Got loads Cineworld vouchers to use so use some of them when we are there. Was going to try and sell some of them but never keen on selling prizes.
Yes Alfie you are right I will be using Tesco vouchers for some of the attractions I want to see on my breaks There are NT and English Heritage places we want to visit too and Coventry Car Museum is free. (DH is really looking forward to that) i have managed to get 3 free nights at IHG hotel near Coventry with my points so love it when I get freebies and cheap deals!
Hope you manage to keep warm rose. How is your cough?
For the first time in 4 wks I feel like I am OK now. I haven't visited my dad in all that time as I was so scared of giving the flu to him. Think I will go today or tomorrow depending on how the roads and pavements look later.
Really annoyed with the Zizzi instant win comp. Just as I was getting near being able to claim a £20 voucher they take it off. Wonder if anyone got one. Could have claimed a £10 earlier but was waiting and guess what the £10 is off now too. Have claimed a bottle of Prosecco before they take that off as well! Will use that at Glasgow next week
Hope everyone has a lucky day.

Been very cold here too but no snow. Sounds was though it was good the GKs came on Saturday what with snow in Glasgow and that area.
Take care Rose. I don!!!8217;t mind snow its the ice that terrifies me.
Talking to Six year old I asked what Scottish words had she learnt. immediately she said Aye. It was really funny with her fading American accent.
Shells your holiday plans sound good. As Rose said there is plenty to see in Portsmouth. So pleased to her you are feeling better its been a long haul. Do hope you find your dad is improving. Great he has had the second op.

Fascinating link below re history of Pancake Day and Shrove
Tuesday customs:
http://www.historic-uk.com/CultureUK/Pancake-Day/
The pancake has a very long history and featured in cookery books
as far back as 1439. The tradition of tossing or flipping them is
almost as old: “And every man and maide doe take their turne,
And tosse their Pancakes up for feare they burne.” (Pasquil’s Palin,
1619).
I had no idea that the tradition of flipping the pancake dates
back so far!
Have a lovely and lucky day all and please take care whatever
your plans.
