:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all well on this glorious Sunday. No rain here at
the mo but always hopeful!
Sounds as if you're going to be mega busy today rose!
On August 12 World Elephant Day asks you to help conserve and
protect elephants from the numerous threats they face.
On August 12, 2012, the inaugural World Elephant Day was
launched to bring attention to the urgent plight of Asian and
African elephants. The elephant is loved, revered and respected by
people and cultures around the world, yet we balance on the brink
of seeing the last of this magnificent creature.
"We admire elephants in part because they demonstrate what we
consider the finest human traits: empathy, self-awareness, and
social intelligence. But the way we treat them puts on display the
very worst of human behavior."
– Graydon Carter, Editor of Vanity Fair
The escalation of poaching, habitat loss, human-elephant conflict
and mistreatment in captivity are just some of the threats to both
African and Asian elephants. Working towards better protection for
wild elephants, improving enforcement policies to prevent the
illegal poaching and trade of ivory, conserving elephant habitats,
better treatment for captive elephants and, when appropriate,
reintroducing captive elephants into natural, protected sanctuaries
are the goals that numerous elephant conservation organizations
are focusing on around the world.
World Elephant Day asks you to experience elephants in non-
exploitive and sustainable environments where elephants can
thrive under care and protection. On World Elephant Day, August
12, express your concern, share your knowledge and support
solutions for the better care of captive and wild elephants alike.
Support World Elephant Day so that we can continue to be a
collective voice speaking out on behalf of elephants!
"Elephants are simply one more natural resource that is being
caught up in human greed on the one hand and human need on
the other. We somehow need people to become reacquainted with
nature or they can have no clue as to the interrelatedness of cause
and effect."
– Dr. Stephen Blake, Max Planck Institute for Ornithology
10 AUG 2018 Giant Melting Ice Elephant Unveiled
A life-sized ice sculpture of an African elephant will be placed in
the summer heat of Toronto to illustrate the rapid loss of the
African elephant population. The Amarula Elephant will be on
display at the Distillery District starting at 9:00am and will remain
on-site until it has completely melted. The life-like sculpture will
consist of roughly 103 blocks of ice, weighing an estimated 9,344
kilograms. Over the course of the day, this massive ice sculpture
will gradually melt, symbolizing the alarming rate at which African
elephants are being killed for their ivory.
Amarula, the best-selling South African cream liqueur, announced
the start of their awareness and fundraising campaign in Canada
to save the African elephant. In partnership with the renowned
conservation group, WildlifeDirect, Amarula will be launching the
2018 “Don’t Let Them Disappear” campaign in various countries
globally, including South Africa, the United States, Brazil and
Germany. The campaign aims to raise awareness in protecting the
world’s declining African elephant population.

:hello: Good morning everyone
Hope you're all well & raring to go on this glorious start to
the week!We ended up getting rain yesterday & it's
looking to be a mixed bag today.
I went a-wandering yesterday morning in the forest for an
hour or so & thoroughly enjoyed myself. Have decided to get
back into walking every day come rain or shine! Some exercise
is definitely in order! Got no excuses now, it's a much more
comfortable & pleasant temperature out at the mo (without
melting in the scorcher of a 'heatwave' we had!). Love the
sunshine but definitely not that hot!
Two events this week which may be of interest...

lol alfie. didn't know there was such a thing as left handers day. As a left hander I have learned to live in a mainly right handed world. Interesting to see what we do quicker and pick up quicker. Likely to pass driving test first time and learn clutch control quicker. I passed first time and only had 11 lessons. Some of the things that they say like opening the back of a book first instead of front? I would dispute. What I find fascinating is seeing how some lefties write where they curl their wrist above where they are writing. I do not do this but write straight on like anyone who is right handed. I also use my right hand for opening jars bottles etc as it is easier because of the way lids are designed to turn. Took the test and I am mixed but mainly left handed. Seemingly we think differently which has probably helped me rather than hindered as I can analyse things in a different way and put across a different point of view. Well enough about me . Any more lefties here?0

Morning. Very interesting about being left handed Alfie and Rose. No one in our family is.
Rose hope you have a great visit with your friend and here from your son soon. Your GLs will be back at school this week.
GS was here yesterday. He brought a lot of Lego with him yesterday so was very quiet until he became frustrated. He did other things then did go back to it. He stayed here the night and is still asleep.
On Saturday I had a message to say I had won a box set of books for children on twitter. Spot the Dog. Will be great for younger GD. I also had a WEM last week for a Gourmet Slicer.
Back to our mixed weather now. It was a very sudden drop in temperature last week. Still prefer this to not being able to do anything in extreme heat.
We too need to start walking Alfie.
Hope everyone has a good day whatever they are doing. Be lucky.0 -
Well done on the wins leanfun.
I am a left hander as well. People still tell me i'm cack handed but i just tell them we are gifted. I worked in a home with 7 left handers, never had that many together at once.lol. I write ok, but knit left handed and eat left handed. I use scissors ok but have trouble with tin openers.
The weather here has been very wet over the weekend, but the gardens needed it so it can stop now, lol. Work was busy over the weekend but at least time goes quick. My son's GF had a great time at the festival she was dressed as Alice in wonderland with a twist and her friend was a dragon. They sent pics and looked great. She will be back later today so will get to hear all about it then.Already been to Tesco with nephew as needed to get meds order in today before it went off. Just catching up with daily comps now. Hope you all have a good day.0 -
I'm also left handed!A good life is when you assume nothing, do more, need less, smile often, dream big, laugh a lot, and realise how blessed you are.

Seems to be a few of us 3forholidays. Do you have any quirky traits because of your left handedness. (is that a word?) Friend came for lunch and we had a good gab putting the world to rights lol. Made us spag bol and she took home the leftovers for hubbys dinner. We were both stinking of garlic from garlic bread I made but it was sooooooooo good. She took a piece of that for hubby as well so he can't complain if she breathes on him. Was telling her about left handedness day and she was laughing at some of the things I do to compensate at times in the right handed world. She did not even realise when faced with something for a right handed person their would be a problem for anyone left handed. (I don't call it a problem just a different way of doing things lol) Hope I find everyone well this evening. Just bought two Eco Eggs from QVC and a set of two bag sealers. Will give one of each to DIL as she has very sensitive skin and a lot of soap powders etc send her skin in to overdrive and she either gets a rash or becomes very itchy. Bag sealer will be great for her as well as she uses clip things that never seem to seal properly.0
