I've just started slimming world - only signed up a few days ago. I'm having some difficulty working out which things are syns or free food but I'm going to set up my phone with the app tomorrow so that should make things easier to follow. I actually ate so much wholewheat pasta today that it felt wrong but then it is a free food, right?

    Welcome Lucia.

If you have an idea what you would like to lose by the 4th March I can add you to the spreadsheet for this challenge.

It takes a bit of getting your head around the fact that you can eat lots of free food, and most don't really believe it till they have had their first few losses.

Dried pasta (not the fresh stuff) is a free food, so yes you can eat as much as you want, as long as you also make sure at least a third of what you eat is speed food. It is the speed food that is most important.
Also you don't want to be eating till you are over full. Just eat what you need to not end up feeling hungry.

    Weigh in showed 1lb off.

At least it is coming off, just wish it would do it a bit faster.

I'm thinking of doing a SP week. Any tips?

Last day pre-op for me. Don't necessarily plan to stick totally to plan, but want my meals to be healthy, so as many syns as possible are saved for nervous eating :(

    So today's plan:
    Breakfast - yogurt and fruit
    Lunch - salmon salad
    Dinner - speedy chilli
Supper - HM chicken noodle soup (need a 4th meal because nothing more to eat till post op tomorrow, and that will be NHS food!)

    HA - milk and cheese
    HB - oats
    Syns - most definitely!

Well done on the loss. It's all in the right direction, and you've lost an amazing half stone since the start of this year.

I'm not an expert on SP, as I can't do them, but the things I know from people in my group that they struggle with is the lack of none-P free foods.
Some people turn to muller lights and previously to mug shots in between meals, and these aren't okay on SP days. The tip given is generally to deal with this and the rest is easy enough to do, and a fridge full of P snacks is the solution. HB eggs, sliced chicken breast and bun case sized SW quiches seem to be the most suggested snacks.

Lioness - I don't do SP very often as I miss the carbs too much! As Kathryn has said you can't have yoghurts but you can still have quark as it's a P food - I actually use in quark in preference to yoghurt if I'm eating it as a substitute for cream with fruit for example.

Roasted carrots, beetroot are a reasonable substitute for potatoes when doing SP. Also mashed swede and carrot is a good substitute for mashed potatoes. You could also make carrot or beetroot chips if you want chips!

    Hope these ideas help.

Well done SSM on beig this week's SOTW.

Good idea Kathryn to have some extra food this evening as you have to fast for tomorrow followed by dire NHS food! Annoys me that NHS food is rarely healthy.

This is getting a bit long so I'll post again with today's menu plan.

    Denise
