This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

  • Good morning All

Slept for a few hours but have been awake since silly o'clock.
Been lying here thinking about the new year and what it might bring.
Not planning to stay up and see the New Year in
It's raining so not much planned.

Hope 2018 is a good year for you all

  • Good morning silver-oldie and all who will be here later. I got up at 4. 30 and have been pottering quietly since then.

Today is bedlinen day, I like to do the changes on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. That's about all I have to do, other than continuing with the never ending washing. And cooking a roast dinner. OH has bought a piece of pork, Im not mad about pork but I like the vegetables and I'll go and make some stuffing soon.

I may try to stay up for midnight. I am a lark with a husband and son who are definitely owls. I'm not bothered by the celebrations and all that flashy stuff on TV but I do like the sense of the turning of the year. Especially looking forward to longer days and light evenings.

Wishing everyone a peaceful year, with some happiness and contentment in it.

    Morning everyone

silver-oldie - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those who want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Not the best start to the end of 2017 - start of 2018 - mum was rushed to hospital yesterday morning having had a stroke, she was in A & E for hours whilst they first investigated what had happened (it didn't present as a stroke/bleed to the brain would) then needed to decide what they needed to do going forward - at last thing last night she had been transferred to the stroke ward for them to keep an eye on her and from that I'm assuming they will decide what if/treatment is needed. We didn't get to the hospital as she was in A & E for hours waiting for a bed to become available and you can only have 2 people with the patient, dad and eldest sister were with her, bro and youngest sister arrived last night, so I was advised that it wasn't worth me going until she had been transferred to a ward (which was eventually late last night as I understand). I have said that I will be intending to visit today. I'll be phoning dad around 8am to find out the state of play. We went to bed with my mobile and our house telephone on the side in our bedroom so we didn't miss any calls.

In other news - not much - the day was thrown into turmoil from when I got the phone call. When I go today I'll be looking to speak to a nurse/doctor so I get a proper idea of what the state of play is.

Dinner last night was an easy pizza and chips/jacket potato and salad. Not sure about today as not sure what we're doing when, so will play it by ear. I'm sure we won't starve.

    Keep safe and well x

  • Morning folks and thanks SILVER-OLDIE for starting us off. So sorry to read about your mum NMLC. I hope today finds an improvement and you get positive news when you visit.

I slept a bit better last night, despite sleeping on and off on the sofa most of yesterday, I didn't seem to cough so much through the night either. Maybe I have turned a corner at last? Mr TA was back to sneezing and blowing his nose yesterday. This virus really doesn't know when to let go.

Talk of bed changing yesterday reminded me I must strip our bed this morning when Mr TA vacates it. I too love our SK size bed, except when it's time to change it! I found a You-tube video explaining in detail how to do the California roll style of putting the cover back on but I just couldn't get to grips with it! And she made it look so easy!

Apart from the hospital on Thursday I haven't been out of the door since Boxing Day when we went down to DD's. I feel to be turning into a recluse and I should make an effort today. We need some milk and, even though that's all we need, I might go to Sainsbobs just to get out of the house.

Have a good day all and ((HUGS)) to all who need/want them. FBO I keep thinking of you and your family, such tragic times. Your cousin's parents must be constantly praying for a miracle to happen. NW I love your idea of the bucket of hugs. So many of our little gang are in need of them just now.

Here's to a Happy and Healthy 2018 for everyone and thanks for listening to my tales of woe throughout this current year and just for being there when I needed a shoulder to cry on. xx

    Morning all

Not that its a competition or anything I can beat you lot on the sleeplessness scales, I was cleaning my kitchen cupboards out at 4am. Grump waking me at 3 (he got growled at), then my bladder, then a hounds bladder. I gave up at that point and when Grump started walking round the bed in his sleep I gave up giving up. Need to get some 'leg soap' today.

So sorry to hear about your Mom Nmlc. I hope she recovers completely.

Nothing planned for today, I think ill sleep when Grump gets up. I need to sleep as ive got the Grandchildren overnight.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all.

    Morning everyone.

Storm Dylan has arrived this morning with a vengeance. All was calm overnight until about 5am, now it’s awful outside. I’m so glad I made it home as I couldn’t have travelled today.

NMLC - so sorry to read about your DM, I hope you have positive news about her today.

I’m still under my duvet and will be here for a wee while yet. Washing is done and fridge is full. I’m not changing the bed linen here until the new mattress arrives next week. Some friends bought me a lovely duvet cover from Jl for Christmas which I want to put on my new bed.

    Now I’m wittering!

Happy Saturday and Happy Hogmanay to all. Lang may your lum reek.
  • Good morning folks. Thanks silver-oldie for starting off.

Sorry to hear about your Mum nmlc, what a worrying time for you. I hope that you get some reassuring news today. It's a shock isn't it, when something like this happens.

Hope the New Year ushers in a recovery for you TA.

Going to the supermarket for a few things this morning. I looked into Morries yesterday, it was terrible, \you would think the shops were shutting for days, like they used to.

We went over to the caravan yesterday, all seemed all right there, so looking forward to longer days when we can go away. Though Dd's baby is due end of March, so we'll have to be here for that.

I like New Years Eve, it always gives me a feeling of hope, though you can't help reflecting on the old year and the not so good things that have happened, both personally and generally.
A neighbour will be seeing the year in with us - it's a far cry from the parties we used to have, we had some riotous times!

Happy New Year everyone, thinking of the worried and poorly, and wishing you all the very best.

    Morning everyone
I'm sorry to hear about your mum nmlc. I hope that you get some positive news this morning.

I'm the only one up here, my brother, sis in law and nephew are still in bed, so I've made myself a cuppa and had chocolate biscuits for breakfast!

I don't know what they have planned for today but I think we will be seeing in the new year quietly.

My niece is enjoying hosting her friends at my house, I've had a couple of texts asking where some cooking utensils are kept

Hugs to everyone with worries or are poorly.

    Good morning all,

Sorry to hear about your mum nmlc, I hope there's better news today.

I was woken at 8am by the HT bearing hot coffee. I did sleep better last night but woke coughing a few times so a gentle start to the day with hot liquid was very much welcomed and he was very pleased with himself for managing it (first time ever).

I have some tidying up to do today after yesterday's furniture moving exploits but not much. We sorted most things before we went to bed last night. Some time this evening (probably around 5ish) we are going to a friend's house to meet up with some other friends for a couple of hours. We won't be out late. I usually stay up until midnight - my mum and gran were from Glasgow and we've always partied at Hogmanay. Old habits die hard although I have to throw the HT out first thing in the morning to be my "first footer" these days.

    Take care all of you
