  • *427 huge amounts of cardboard yesterday. Recycling men must have thought I had had my Christmas early but wanted as much out of the house as I could to make the house look tidier-it doesn't!

  • On the sixth day of my Christmas challenge, I decluttered

one completed Sudoko book to recyc.
one pile of unused envelopes that get reply paid UK- no use here and I keep meaning to put labels on them but never will - to recyc.
one handful of sweetie papers(secret habit here).
one handful of small bits of paper from stamp sheets.
one broken pencil-too small to use.
one handful of clear wrappers that cards come in.
These last ones all to bin.

This clutter was all found as I tried to find a suitable Christmas card to deliver to a friend from my stash of single ones from earlier years that I am trying to use up to leave me with mainly full packs for the future.
Needless to add, my desk holds a considerable stash of cards.
I hope my post makes sense to you, my fellow declutterers.
  • :T:T Well done retiredinfrance :T:T & yes your post did make sense :D

Am actually on Week 4: Thursday & Friday - kitchen detritus - Running Total = 8

Have written my menu plan up until Christmas Day, moved nearly everything needed from freezer to fridge - we had fish or fish cakes, oven chips & frozen peas for Friday’s dinner.
DH has 3 more bathroom floor tiles to replace, he went to sm & got all our Christmas veg & various other bits & pieces. DSis went out for a long lunch with her BFF - I donated a small gift bag & a small box of fudge to DSis as a gift for her friend :)
I have been following my daily mantras but sadly have been leaving the washing up until just before I go to bed

I still cannot believe I managed to get the tea stain out of the sofa :D:D

DH is cooking dinner tomorrow - a brand new recipe.

    See you all tomorrow :D

  • *428 went shopping yesterday evening for the last of the fresh stuff and any cat bits.
Took a big bag of plastic wrappings with me to go in the recycling point. The place looked like it
had been hit by a whirlwind but we got round relatively quiet.

Bit frustrated with myself, when I took the things to the CS I missed out some things that were staring me in the face......these are the start of my next CS bag

  • On the seventh day of my Christmas challenge I decluttered,

6 books to CS - now in a big bag as I will be adding to it over the holidays

    I load of emails deleted.
I had three books read and ready to go and then I thought I will go through the shelves I get them from mainly at 3 for a euro and I pick up lots that I might possible read and as we really really need the space on the shelves and I started this challenge I reckoned seven would be easy. But I got slower and slower as I started to read some and then I just gave up and went looking for something else. Probably like some of you , I had been out at the SM to get the fresh stuff and was tired when I got home as it was quite busy ( surprise, surprise!!)

    See you all tomorrow.
  • On the eighth day of my Christmas Challenge I decluttered

4 bits largish of bubble wrap to save for CS.
    2 magazines to recyc.
2empty deodorant bottles to glass recyc. I save up almost empty ones for taking on holidays and dump before I get home, but I used these up as I only need to keep one at a time.

Not very exciting I know , but that's why it needs to be decluttered.

49/52 - another computer game sold and posted (and some more packaging used up).

I liked the idea of counting up any profits from this exercise as a motivation boost so I can confirm my 2018 total is £46.61

I only came across this thread a few days ago and I need it! :rotfl: I post my miserly declutterings on my diary but don't like to go on too much about them there...

Are there plans for a 2019 thread? (Sorry if I've missed a link).

  • Yes, Cherryfudge, I too hope to keep going in 2019. Decluttering is now a way of life for me, and there are lovely people on this thread and amazing posts.
BUT, I have done nothing today except get ready for Christmas and apart from keeping up with getting the bin stuff out for collection, I confess that my challenge is going on a very short break . I will return, I promise.
Hope everyone of you out there is keeping safe and well.
  • :hello: cherryfudge & welcome. I am like you in that I came across the thread by accident but fortunately in January :rotfl: There will definitely be a 2019 thread, as I believe there are many of us who are still trying to declutter.

By the way - there is no such thing as ‘miserly declutterings’ - everything out is a success :T - even if it is a newspaper read & recycled or food wrappings disposed of immediately.

Seriously out of sorts atm - not a fan of Christmas & cba’d to do anything at all.
Oh well - it will all be over soon, as will the mania of New Year :T
Then decluttering can start in earnest :rotfl:
