Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent".0 -

Good to see you againDEBT 02/25: total £6100 Debt free date 12/250 -
Janus a time to look forwards - where do you want to be in 12 months from now? 12 months: debt free (exc BTL mtge - but target of 4K ops) A decent no of jobs completed from our 'to do' list for the house (some are small, some are big/ long term/ expensive) Fitter. Hopefully with 2 children at uni. Pensions sorted.
Today's actions towards this - transferred more money into kitchen fund from flebay sales
Activity. This is a BOGOF one. Take up a new hobby or resurrect an old one. ALSO, be active. Keep moving. Today: - just more kitchen packing up done (lifting/ bending/ stretching) 10k steps done whilst doing so.
Non-negotiables
-18 NSDs (if not, why not?) (not fussed if I don't achieve this as long as budgets aren't blown) 3/18. Got one today if I still can claim an NSD for milk (bought 8 pints to tide us over until I go shopping on Fri, after buying 28 at the weekend....)
-your budgets are set by the start of the month and are fixed.
Food - 102.23/£400
Fuel - £63/65 -
Toiletries - 0/£10
Household - 55.63 /£20 - (busted due to new toaster/ teatowels)
Clothes - 12.13/ £60
Social - 86.39 + McDs/ £100 (all bday related)
Gifts - 15/ £50 -
-£5 to foodbank / charity - DONE
-pay money to your debts/savings FIRST - day to day CCs paid off in full, usual monthly pymt to OH's car finance. Some money transferred to kitchen fund. My tax bill paid in full (£565). Min payments to both 0% CCs this month until kitchen expenditure known in full, instead of estimated
-meal plan - I don't do this. OH hates meal planning. However, I am targeting stuff which needs using up first, even if only for me. Gaps in freezer and on shelves.
Always plan your meals; always take a shopping list; always take your lunch to work and drink + snacks when out and about; avoid all coffee shops, vending machines, work canteens... -ok
Reduce, re-use, repair, re-gift, recycle, recover, refuse! And read. ok. Today I caught up the hem on a pair of DS2's school trousers where it was coming downVarious items recycled.
Stretch challenge - aim to get extra money of £50. £28.06/£50 (+ £7 net ebay sale for DS3) Aim to declutter 50 items. 120/50:j
Have joined pay off all your debts by Xmas 2018, MFW 2018 (looking to OP £4k on BTL mtge), Declutter in 2018 (aiming for 2018 items!) Relisted 7 items on fleabay - 1 now sold

NSD 6/12. C is out with his friend and the boy is buying me a Chinese take away.
Washing and ironing all done and I've looked out what I'm taking with me on holiday. Not a lot as we travel as light as possible and I'll find somewhere to have things laundered as we go along. Not very MSE but it's a balance between that or carrying enough for a month. We'll buy what toiletries we need in Amsterdam to save hassle at the airport (needs to be as hassle free as possible when you're travelling with C these days). Apart from that I've been cleaning, tidying and throwing out. What C doesn't know about won't hurt him?
I have managed to get the laptop to connect to the internet. The boy said we should just throw it out (he's the expert?) but I was determined that I could get it to work. Actually I don't know if it was me or if it decided to do it of its own accord. I swear these things have a life of their own. Anyway it's working again.
So a few things to do in the next couple of days. Get some currency and collect prescriptions but although it's not all NSDs I pleased that we really are not spending very much.
Off to watch something on Netflix. The boy is sharing his account with us so I don't have to pay for it. He's a wee star!Have adventures. laugh a lot and always be kind.0 -
Today has been a very spendy day!
Trip to the vets to collect the dogs tablets - we opted for 100 as it’s cheaper in the long run but that cost us £116  was not expecting that. That is, pretty much, the entire emergency fund from last month gone. Will have to see if I can move some bits around but we might just have to take the hit with that one. I have allocated spends for the dog in the budget but this was well over.
I’ve now decided to set up a separate account solely for the dog and will revise the monthly figure we set aside to accommodate this.
Other than that, I’ve had a good day. One of our supervisors have announced they are moving teams so I am seriously considering applying for the job when it is announced. It won’t be worth much more income wise but it’s a step up so I will definitely apply. The worst they can say is no.February Grocery Budget: £190.75/£350.00

Not much to report really today. Woke. Work. Home. Ate haha. It was one of those days. I'm trying to re-address my work/life/family balance and have been firm that next week I am taking the time out for ME. Not for family - Me. It feels selfish - but actually - I'm on my last legs. So meh! I'm doing it.⭐ DEBT FREE : 18/02/2025 ⭐

NSD 7 - argh! DS4 has managed to lose his 2 week old pair of plimsoles at school, scoured the house looking for them AND his wellies. Nowhere to be found. Bought him a new pair of plimsoles, new pair of wellies, and caved at a new pair of trainers for football total £ 18.50.,
Could not find my chequebook today so I have started looking in ridiculous places now. Found DS3s nearly new pair of size 1 plimsoles less than 10 minutes after writing DS4s name in his new pair of size 1 plimsoles. He loses them at such a rate of knots, I am sure they will all get used.

Did a nice thing this morning. An older lady did not have quite enough money for a trolley so I gave her a £1 coin anyway, and she gave me what she had in her purse. I was heading toward my car when I noticed one of the 5ps was a sixpence, so I ran back and gave it back to her, I couldn't take someone's lucky sixpence could I? She said she had been saving it for her son. I have a couple of sixpences knocking around the house I have found in my change or on the street (??)and everytime I come across one it makes me smile. Even though I was a post-decimalisation baby.4/10/22One Year Mortgage Free Yay!

Time to update I think, (sorry, not good at updating every day):
Food, household and toiletries - £96.88 / £240
Fuel - 0 / £65
Personal spends (covers clothes, hairdressing, social etc, this is for 2 of us) - £40 / £100
Gifts - £75 / £150 (Daughter's and best friend's birthdays)
Food bank £5.22 / £5
I had to go to the dentist's today, and OH is having chiropractic treatment, so big bills for both of thosebut can't be helped.
Struggling with NSDs - I count everything as a spend, and there seems to be something nearly every day
Stalled a bit on the decluttering as well
But the budgets are going more or less as expected, at least
