  • Thanks DIA . TBH if god is good etc , a part time job should be enough to keep me going . Not paying a mortgage is a massive help obviously . Plus no more debt . I think it's sensible to get a part time job if I can that suits and see what gives . It's all I can really do.
The whole system is broken and you only have to look at wages
In 2006 for example ( living in London where the pay is better) , I was earning £10-12 ph temping before becoming permanent . If I was in London now for example , common sense would say that I should expect £15-17ph . Of course the phrase " good luck with that " springs to mind and the going rate for my kind of work would be about £9.75 ph . Here it's about £8..75 .
So that's one huge reason why life is crap, and it won't get any better..

AC what about a job in a shop coming up to Christmas? Even if only for a few hours a day.

    Good point mrs p.
I'll see what's what tomorrow at the library and see if there is any useful advice that can help .
  • Ok, a brief update ..
I went to the job club in Poole library today as recommended by moo.
It was something that I initially was putting off and I painted a fairly negative picture in my head . However, it was much more the opposite
My guide was very professional , helpful and understanding of my needs and requirements . I got advice on how to rewrite my cv and I have been given leaflets with courses in that I may be interested in .
There's no obligations and I can drop in on any Tuesday morning .
I will do so and in the meantime I will update my cv ,which will take a while . I did a job search and was in total was there over 2 hrs
I think that now I have more of an idea compared to last year what hours I am able realistically do , I just have to focus on what I can do rather than taking anything at the wrong hrs in the middle of nowhere, like that post office disaster almost a year ago.
The other folk seemed ok to get on with . One lady was handing out sweets every so often . I guess the more I go, the better things will be

Yesterday evening the communal door was wide open and this time I saw one of the children standing there looking unsure of me.
I smiled and politely asked him to close the door as the cold is getting into my flat . The mother was coming behind him and said nothing.
Hopefully message has finally got to them .
Yep, new boiler needed. In a way , hopefully this should fingers crossed, be the last job ( except painting in a couple of years) that needs to be done to the flat for a very long time . Unfortunately I have to buy a new settee . After all of that that's it .
I'm not gonna post negative stuff like I have been lately , which was justifiable imho as I feel less fed up for the moment and am focusing on restart at last within the next few months .
    Here is a smile ..:)

Glad you went to the job club, keep it up.

Is your settee broken then? As I've said before, I always recommend Ikea for sofas. Our 13 year old sofa is still going strong.
Another place you can look, is British Heart Foundation furniture shops. Our local one often has good sofas available. The most expensive one I saw was £130 for a large corner sofa. Gumtree is also worth a look.
Don't go looking in John Lewis, or anywhere like that, you need to save as much of your money as you can.
  • Thanks gigervamp
I was just looking at IKEA . Yes the sofa has seen better days
That's the annoying thing ..the removal guy said they were ok and my friend said they were ok . That was almost 3 years ago . I've had the sofas since 1997 , so they've done their job .

I'm after a leather 3 seater , which ideally would come in two packages so I can guarantee it'd fit into the doorway etc .
I'm about 4 stone lighter than when I moved in but still overweight so want something sturdy .

Speaking of the weight , my jeans are falling off of me again .Great sign ,but embarrassing

AC - could you leave the sofa till the New Year? Just thinking that is when all the big sales are on and you may well find a bargain.

Glad you are thinking more on the positive side. It's all too easy to think of all the negative stuff and then its a downward spiral, Just look at all you have achieved over the last year - it's amazing. I am jealous of your weight loss :)

Even if you were to move again, I suspect it would be another flat and you would again be faced with the same problems. Hopefully the noises you hear are mainly during the day when that would be expected.

  • Thanks Mrs p :)
No rush for the sofa .The one I have now ,is the 2 seater. Not as long obviously as the 3 seater which I disposed of a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah, sales seem the best time .

Well, the Ikea website does give the measurements of the packages the furniture comes in. The last armchair I got from there, the arm rests were separate and came in another box. They also give you the weight of the boxes too.

But leather is going to be more expensive, wherever you buy it, and truthfully for you, is a luxury. You can't afford luxury right now, unless you get a job. Fabric would be a better option, and most of Ikea's sofas have washable covers (and you can buy new covers from Ikea and Bemz).
