Yes, AC, agencies have been suggested a few times, actually visiting some, not sending off emails....0
-
Thanks folks .
I have saved a few jobs and listed them on universal credit .
When I used to live in London , I would visit various agencies in the west end, Holborn , Victoria etc. The last time being in 2006 .
Some weren't interested . Some said " send cv online "Lots of running around .
I was under the impression that , that was the way forward in the present climate . I have contacted agencies and would've thought if there was something they had in mind , they woukd contact me.
That has happened in the past . I may go directly to the agencies and see what gives..
The agencies that I have sent cvs to have confirmed that I am on the system .
Need to get my hair cut .i think there's more than one .0 -
Hi AC I think you've got a very optimistic view of how agencies work these days. In my experience they are overwhelmed with information like the rest of us and to expect them to rummage for your cv every time an opportunity arises is a bit unrealistic.
However they are human (so I've heard) so if you regularly ring them, visit them and generally make yourself agreeable and known to them, they are more likely to think of you when something comes up. Perhaps if you were to pop in and say you could be available at short notice and for short tasks they would think of you favourably.
And they also use Linkedin a lot......
So, what's your plan for this week to bolster your job search?0 -
AC last week my daughter returned from nearly 3 years in China and is now job hunting - she's found LinkedIn really useful and also yesterday trawled round the agencies in the local city dropping in cover letter, CV's, references and basically introducing herself.
Started looking on Saturday and has interviews setup for later this week...... definitely worth going in in person0 -
Exactly. They probably get hundreds of cvs sent to them every week by jobseekers, but if they can put a face and voice to the name on your cv, they're more likely to think of you when a job comes up.
I did explain earlier that you're more likely to get work from them by going in there in person.0 -
Point taken about going to the agencies .
I will be doing that .
Have finally completed and submitted the council tax application .
The upload facility of course didn't fuction . I have bank statements / national insurance and all identification saved and printed . They will reply to my application and will instruct me how to proceed .
Managed to get haircut .
On the music side of things ,I've started sharing ideas with my friend via a music application called reason . It can be as simple and as complex as you would want . Lots to learn .0 -
Received a early morning email from universal credit . Should really have been a text, as that was my preferred point of contact. Still, it's part of what to expect .
Anyway, it's a message listing all the things I could claim which effects universal credit . ( job seekers allowance etc . The list is long)
As universal credit is supposed to be a one size fits all approach, I decided no action is needed by me . I will enquire on the benefits board to confirm. It's amazing . The day after I submit a claim for council tax help, the email arrives from universal credit.
I'm due to get first payment next Tuesday ( 5 weeks), but I assume I will have to contact them asking why haven't I received it .
Still, the sun is shining ...0 -
Hello AC.
You're putting me to shame again with how productive you're being. Does this good weather help you get motivated? It does work for me. I've even managed to cook properly and bring leftovers in to work for lunch. Yay me!
Good luck with the jobs you're applying for. It seems a bit of a daunting task but you're pushing through it all well. Why not come back to London and work here again! (I'm obviously joking about that).
Well done on getting the heating situation sorted. I need to be booking a new boiler and installation soon and really not looking forward to it.
Thanks for boosting my motivation!

Hello MT
It's nice to see that you think I'm making progress . Well, I am running out of excuses :rotfl:
I'm trying to do as I'm told ..most of the timeThe agencies have to be tackled .
Will pop over to your diary soon ..0 -
I have just received a text from universal credit . " you still haven't booked your appointment . If you do not book by 01/02/2019 your claim will be rejected .."
I quickly called them ,and I have my first appointment on Friday afternoon which I entered into the journal. I also had to tell them that the person who sent the message should have put 01/03/2019 and not 01/02/2019 . You have to watch everything with these bar stewards . The rough ride is starting ..:mad:0
