  • Hi Laura

Just one thought with the Prolific Academic surveys, why not wait until you have £20 then there are no fees to deduct when you cashout.

You seem to be doing well with your debt reduction. Well done!

Worked my second job yesterday, which was hard as I have been ill all weekend :( Didn't go into my main job today as woke up feeling horrendous.

Had a no spend weekend which was good as did not feel like doing a lot :)

Had the renewal come through for my cat insurance today - they wanted double the amount to last year which i kind of understand because we did make a claim, but I shopped around and found it a lot cheaper with Asda through top cashback with £44 cashback :) which will go to the credit card!

Just working through the survey sites, I haven't been on as much as hoped so I need to catch up.

Total on Lloyds credit card now: £3215.00

Feeling a little down in the dumps today! Not sure if its linked to feeling under the weather, but down about my debt, relationship with husband to be isn't great imagine I'm pushing him away. Feeling down about myself - just generally don't think that highly of myself and feel cast out of my family. My sister has 4 children and I have none.

A lot of things happened and my sister barely talks to me anymore - i actually didn't cause this she did because she suffered mentally after pregnancy and I took the brunt of that - but my mum goes over to hers to see her all of the time and I am left out.

Sorry for the whole I am so hard done by post, but right now thats how I feel and I shouldn't because I know some people in the world have much bigger worries than I do :(

  • Just popping in to cheer you on. Well done on sorting this now before the debt gets out of hand. What was the first direct loan for? It is quite a significant amount.

I think you were right to put your bonus towards your wedding savings. You also need some emergency savings.

If you are working lots and feeling under the weather that will impact on your mood so look after yourself. Re the sister situation. I have 2 adult daughters and see one regularly as I look after her 2 year old DD for one day a week and she lives locally and is expecting her second so I try and support her. My other daughter doesnt have children and lives further away so I go up and spend weekends with her and we do thinks like meals out, spa and theatre trips etc. You dont have a lot of spare time but when you do maybe offer to do some babysitting for your sister or suggest you and your mum go for an MSE afternoon out like a walk or watch a film together or coffe out within budget of course? I am sure they dont mean to leave you out but you must have less free time and less need of help as you dont have kids at the moment. In 5 years time it could be the other way round. You could have young children or a baby and your sisters kids will be more independent so she wont need your mums help as much. Maybe talk to them if it is really bothering you?

Good luck on the debt reduction. £15k is a lot for a wedding so looking for economies is good. My DD and son in law did their own table decorations, kept wedding favours cheap and didnt use expensive photographers, cars or flowers. I think they spent most on the honeymoon and the food and drink but they got a package and kept the numbers as low as possible.

Thank you enthusiasticsaver, i think feeling under the weather made me feel sorry for myself when really I shouldn't! Your completely right in years to come the tables may turn and i will have young kids and my sister wont.

The first direct loan was a debt consolidation from a while ago, i recently moved it to first direct from another provider as got a much better rate - it used to be even larger than this :( i was very silly with money.

Im trying to save an emergency fund at the same time as paying the debt have £100 so far, so will try to add to this month.

I get another small bonus in February of a few hundred so hoping to save half and pay half to debt.

  • On the positive side you are still young and have realised your mistake. You have a house and are saving for a wedding. Yes the debt consolidation on to the loan was not good and building up a credit card afterwards but if you failed to address it when you did your debt would be much higher. You are doing the right things now.

Also, stop smoking if you have not already. It affects both your finances and your health and particularly if you want children at some point.
