Have decided for Xmas dinner this year I am reverting to Cook! I've tried to keep costs down in the past few years and whilst some has been successful, some just leads to more work or stress for me. At least with Cook! I can get it in advance and have it in the freezer. Looking at some of their prices, many things aren't really any more expensive than the likes of M&S either.

I'm also taking the grave step of not buying additional stuffing. I STILL have some in the freezer from last year as I seem to be convinced I like it, or can eat more than I do (OH is veggie) and if I get the stuffed crown of turkey from Cook!, there's stuffing a plenty in that.

Only thing is....I did a load of batch cooking last weekend and the freezer is quite full :rotfl:

  • yooo-hooooo Can l come back in? sorry for the long absence but a series of catastrophes, family emergencies, form filling, appointments, and a helping of nasty black dog seem to erupt at the same time!!.

Christmas is coming closer, l can feel it. l could smell it last night when l lit my Christmas pine candle mmm.
My friend came to see me last night, her church group are doing shoeboxes for Romania (operation Christmas child) and asked if l had any small items that would be suitable. Well, another friend had previously bought for me a whole load of little gifts from superdr*g at 5p and 10p so l opened the bag up and told her to help herself, so …..she took the lot!! didn't have the heart to say owt, and as they are going to people who have nothing, l wont complain. When l started on this thread l confessed to being a poor baker, but in the time l have been on l have become much better, and last weekend l made a baby shower cake and cupcakes, and catered a christening. Now, both these events were for friends children, so maybe they were being kind to the elderly, but l enjoyed it immensely. Wouldn't want to do it full time though.
The recent storm blew down a tree in big bro's garden, no real damage thankfully, and as one of his friends has a wood burner it will get a useful end, but l was wondering about making a reindeer like yours, Peppa?

Glad to see newbies, and l think l need a matchmaker lift, so off to get the gingerbread ones if theres any left. xxx

    Congratulations HappyLassie! Lovely news :)

Sorry for the lack of posts again, it's certainly been a busy month and stressful at times, mostly due to work really as workloads have increased for everyone a bit recently.

Anyways...on the Christmas front I have bought some more bits! I bought my mum some beauty bits (creams etc) from the B. collection at S*perdrug, it's on better than half price at the moment and you get a free gift when you buy 3 selected items too (this offer is across a lot of beauty products in case it's helpful) - you get a free little bag of body cream and scrub.

I also bought the M+S £5 stag shortbread tin for my parents today.

Still so much more to get, but glad I've made a good start this early on!

Yay, lovely to see you MRSINVIS, we’ve missed you. Sorry to hear things have been up and down but really glad you’re back. Sadly after a couple of good years my reindeer didn’t survive to this year but I’d say definitely go for it if you can. If DH is up to it I might try and get the wood to make some more, it isn’t the same without them.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Just a little heads up... Wilk0 have their Christmas bits online now (at least some bits, yet to see wrapping - so I guess there's more to come)... but they also have the milk choc oranges for £1!

*edit - It's now saying they're out of stock unfortunately :(

Afternoon all. Welcome back absentees and welcome to the thread newbies.

Sorry to hear some of you are having a tough time - Treasurequeen are you still having problems with your neighbours?

Yes I am still having problems they are getting extreme now but still nothing is getting done about it. I’ve been going out as much as I can but even then I get accused of something I haven’t done. But I’ve come to realise I’m not alone I’ve got you guys on here, so thanks for all of your kind words and support over the past year.

I’ve been keeping busy planning for a good Christmas, the last two christmases here weren’t nice and I was unable to enjoy or relax. This year will be different. I’ve made up some Christmas reed diffuser oils to put in my recycled jars that I will tie some Christmas ribbon and a charm around. One for hall and one for bathroom. I’ve just ordered some placemats for my Christmas table that aren’t overally Christmassy so I can use them throughout the year too.

I’ve got three pages of crafts to make some as decorations for flat and some for gifts.

When do you all start reading your Christmas novels ?

    Hope everyone is ok

I went in Wilko the other day they are still priced at £1.00 on shelves. No wrapping paper in Wilko store yet. I heard a member of staff say that the Christmas stuff has come in before the Halloween stuff this year. There was two old dears holding up the aisle trying to explain to the staff member that some people can’t cope with crowds so they start early as people that Christmas shop don’t care about others in way of manners. They just push past and grab things off shelves without please or thank you. She was trying to say it was cheaper too but the member of staff called her mad. I thought it was hilarious. :rotfl:

Sorry to hear things are no better treasurequeen your neighbours sound frankly horrible and are due a good dose of karma. Sending you hugs a plenty.

Your reed diffusers sound amazing, I have always resisted them as I can imagine our cat either knocking them over or brushing past and leaving them all furry but I'm coming round to the idea of them as they always smell so nice.
