  • Free, I will look forward to the photos on IG. You have already made me have sofa envy. Are you still following Keto, I need to pick your brain xx
Had to smile to myself yesterday, I was sat in the doctor surgery waiting room and there was a lady writing her Christmas cards. She said she knows it is a tad early but she has learnt her mistakes over the years and only writes her cards out to her friends under eighty, she leaves the overs until November. She was so serious that I found it hard not to giggle
  • I have been here, looking at posts but not Posting anything. A lot has been happening mostly bad. But I’ve been planning Christmas crafts to take my mind off of things. I’ve got 8 christmas novels to read that I’ve been picking up from charity shops.

    Welcome back free
    Congratulations happy lassie

  • Thank you all :)

We have a NEXT local to us that is closing down and they are having a sale this weekend, i'm hoping i can pick up some cheap tops/jumpers to go in as gifts for the children. I usually spend £10 and like to include one item of clothing.
  • Hello all!

I just bought my Christmas tree and decorations, and thought I should pop in and say Hi. I haven't tended to bother with decorations in the past due to living in temporary accommodation or similar, but this year I am settled in my own flat and have decided I should. I'm quite excited, and only overspent on my budget by £4 - which isn't too bad. That extra string of tinsel shall make all the difference. I'm buying a tad early as I have spare money this month - also buying them online, so I have plenty of time to send them back and rebuy if they're rubbish!

I'm lucky, I only have 2 people to buy for this year - my partner, where we very sensibly set a budget to stop us going mad like last year, and my niece who I tend to spoil rotten. Still have no ideas for either of them, but I'm visiting my sister/niece next month and hope to pick up some ideas.

I'm a recently diagnosed diabetic, so I shall have to resist getting too many chocolates and sweets - though I love to spoil the other half, so no doubt will have loads around the house for him. I'm lucky in that I'm not doing dinner this year - though I'm a vegetarian and therefore will likely bring a nut roast or similar - if I even go! My family all live overseas and my partners family make me uncomfortable (long story!) so I may just sit at home while he goes to his family for dinner. Either way, it shall be much nicer than last year when me and my partner ended up in a Premier Inn eating pot noodles.
  • For those that missed out (or need new boxes!) Tesco online are showing matchmakers as £1 until 25th.

I'm feeling very 'Bah Humbug' at the moment. I was even more Bah Humbug last year.... probably one of the most miserable alcohol laden Christmas' I've ever had. Hopefully this one will be better :)

Welcome to the thread K80 BLACK, your Christmas spending plan sounds spot on to me and I think you can be forgiven for going £4 over budget on the decs:D.
It's the most wonderful timeof the year :

Afternoon all. Welcome back absentees and welcome to the thread newbies.

Sorry to hear some of you are having a tough time - Treasurequeen are you still having problems with your neighbours?

Congratualtions Happylassie fabulous news for you both.

K80 Black great to hear you are settled somewhere more permanent this year, hopefully perhaps in the future you can look back on the pot noodles as a 'shared experience to remember' even if that's not yet. If you can ride out the tough times together then the good times are even better.

Picked up a dark choc orange in Sainsbury's today - that's gone in the xmas stash and I think I need to stop buying choc now. There's only two of us and OH sometimes gets hampers at work which invariably have choc in (of variable quality).

I did see Stollen in Lidl this week though have thus far resisted. OH doesn't really like it (read; hasn't really tried it) so I usually work my way though a large one myself through Dec (by Jan I'm thoroughly sick of it - then by now I'm ready to go again)

  • Sorry for the long post everyone but I’m just having a catch up.

JJ Sorry to hear you have been in hospital again, it can’t be nice for you always having to go there. Oh I do hope your head gives you a break for your trip to Florida, it sounds so exciting! Well done on nearly being debt free though, that’s a great achievement!

Stokie love the Christmas cards! I think they’ll be great. Every year I say I’m going to cross stitch all my Christmas cards but never get around to it, I’m thinking if I start now they might be ready for next year! Have you checked out Pinterest for money giving ideas? There’s loads of novel ways to give money so you’re not just putting cash in a card. For my Godson last year I filled a jar with sweets and the money was hidden in a tube in the middle, for my cousin’s wedding I put the money in a lovely photo frame. There’s loads of ideas on there it’s worth a look.

mandco oh that is so frustrating when stuff gets cancelled! You’re always pleased that you’ve found a bargain and it’s another thing ticked off then that happens! I went onto the Next sale online last night and by the time I got to my basked half of it had sold out so I gave up in the end.

GIYD oh I know what you mean, I think I’d feel the same having an empty house next door, it’s always nice knowing someone else is around. Such a shame you think your mum won’t be able to get it, that would have been ideal for you both. Love your story from the doctors surgery! :rotfl:

nic oh I do love hearing about all the girly stocking fillers, I love both of my boys more than anything but I am going to miss buying all the girly things! My boys are young at the moment so it’s ok but I imagine it’s going to be a nightmare buying for teenage boys. I hope you feel better now, DS1 picked up a cold in his first week at school and kindly shared it with the rest of us!

kerri I say yes to writing cards now, I never want to start too early as I like it to be Christmassy but then I always run out of time and end up under pressure to write them!

    HappyLassie congratulations, that’s lovely news!

K80 oh I bet you’re going to really enjoy decorating your own place this year.

    Treasurequeen sending hugs x

free I bet you feel much better now after having it all cleared, it’s like a clean slate. I’ll have a search for the piccies.
