Indeed - I know that'll be expensive. It'll certainly challenge my usual MSE attitude!Galapagos Difficult to get there cheaplty
Only been to Jerusalem but definitely want to go back.been to Jordan (Petra) Israel (Bethlehm\Jerusalem)
In reality I'd probably miss it out but love the Bounty story - if not too much hassle/expense would like to go but not essential.Pitcairn-We fly over it
Mine would love some of it but hate other bits. And 3 months travelling together? We get on really well at home but not so well on holiday - 3 months 24/7 together would be too much, think we'd be divorced before we got back :eek:I'm taking the wife:D
She's thinking about a trip to NZ to help an aged relative so that would be a good time to go, if we time it well she could stop off on the way out and back if I'm somewhere that interests her at the time, maybe do a couple of 2 weeks stints travelling together...0 -

I'm thinking about booking a last minute solo trip abroad for a few nights.
All inclusive.
Cocktails.
Beach.
Sea.
Sand.
Pool.
Or is it stupid of me to go away alone as a young female?
I was looking at Turkey but I've heard some iffy things, has anyone been recently?0 -

It's not stupid to go away alone, loads of people do it including me and love it, and probably just as many women as men.I'm thinking about booking a last minute solo trip abroad for a few nights.

But I'd question the type of holiday. Typically AI hotels will cater for couples, families, and possibly groups of friends, generally people who'll keep themselves to themselves.
Unless you find one that specifically caters to singles, or you really don't mind having little social interaction on your holiday, I'd suggest using hostels which are far more single-traveller friendly and where you'll likely meet loads of single travellers. You can usually get a private room if you don't want a dorm. The vibe is just so much more friendly, people are far more willing to interact with strangers than in hotels, even those not travelling alone.
I've never felt lonely in hostels when travelling alone, I have in hotels.0 -

I've just gone and done that. Arranged a few extra days off work and booked a last minute AI trip to Turkey, £330 all in for 6 nights leaving on Wednesday. I normally would go to Portugal or Spain at this time of year but anywhere in Euroland was looking expensive and it was going to be around £300 for the flights alone.
I've never done AI in my life before - I usually prefer to do B&B or room only but for price it was hard to refuse. Even if the food is terrible (the TripAdvisor reviews are OK) and I end up eating out most of the time then it's still a decent price for flight, transfers, hotel and free beer.
I wouldn't worry about travelling alone. I'm not young nor female but I have been going on solo holidays for years (I have no friends...). It really is the best way to travel - you do exactly what you want, when you want, without having to take anyone else into consideration.0 -
Where are you going Dosh?0

Marmaris - it may be a bit touristy there but I'm just looking for somewhere with cheap beer and reliable sunshine. I couldn't believe the prices for Portugal and Spain this year. I also didn't want an AI hotel in the middle of nowhere but at least in Marmaris there are plenty of local alternatives.
It will be my first time in Turkey, my first ever AI and my first package holiday for about 20 years - but I'm always one to try something different once in a while.
Asking around friends and at work it seems a lot of people are going to Turkey this year so hopefully that's a sign that the troubles the tourism sector over there has had recently are over.0 -
Have a wander across to Icmeler by orange dolmus [shared minibus], or Turunc by white dolmus. Cheap as chips, and doesn't take long.
You can also do the same by boat from Marmaris Marina, a bit dearer than the dolmus but still cheap.
You won't get cheap beer outside of your AI in Turkey.....sin tax has taken care of that.
Have a look at Lake Ohrid in Macedonia for your next trip. We're there now, it really is a superb destination, and v.good vfm0
