Thanks motorguy - don't really need it rubbing in that it was "mental" to pay £250 for the laptop. I read through the customer reviews before buying and they all said that it was ideal for basic use like homework.

Think I'm done with this thread now!

Thanks to others who have been helpful, I will try some of your suggestions.

You really need to take decisive action. If purchased within the period mentioned, run the Factory Restore , not Reset PC, as I have indicated and arrange a return.
Then, ask here about a new laptop.

Ok done!! Returned the laptop today so now looking for a bit of advice on the best one to buy next please.

I'd like new rather than refurbished, budget is £200-250 tops. Don't really mind what brand so long as it's recommended.

    Thanks v much.

The pricing of it at £249 is "mental". Unfortunately people then spend the money in good faith as it seems fine on paper. They're effectively mugging innocent people into buying something thats really not fit for (any) purpose.

No offence was meant - I am sure you are a perfectly well balanced individual. :)

Whilst you're against a refurb, you should consider a Dell Outlet PC - most are cancelled orders or machines that have been superceded. You will generally get more "bangs per buck" with them and they'll still be packaged as new.

Also, check ebay for the same as there are many resellers in this market of "as new" kit from Dell

A quick dig around the places I trust doesn't turn up much new for under £300. If your budget really won't stretch, this Grade A1 Dell isn't new, but it is likely to be solid and reliable.

OTOH I'm not an expert on laptops and someone who is may be able to point you to something in budget?

    Hello again,

You may struggle to find a new decent spec laptop for £250.

Have a look at Dell - Refurb laptops here. Nothing wrong with buying these machines, they are usually in next to new condition and usually come with a 12 month warranty.
    Good luck
