Good luck
I've edited your post for you. That is where you should have stopped.0 -

Erm that is exactly what everyone is doing here.
Unfortunately some of the 'advice' is poor and worse still, asking someone to PM you after offering such poor advice somewhat takes the biscuit.
Buying an external HDD doesn't solve her issue. It has been oft repeated. It didn't need posting again.

4GB RAM with 32GB storage (expandable via SD card)
Problem solved.
Why would she need to PM you for advice??0 -

SD card is more portable, but very limited, there will be a maximum cap that the laptop can handle (64g, 128g ???) it will work out more expensive than a external harddrive and a little slower.
Example of prices:
Kingston Technology 64GB SD Card will cost you 34.49
External Harddrive Verbatim 1TB will cost you £39.99
(prices from ebuyer)

£250 is a lot of money ..this is a barebones laptop, running on a celeron processor, (one of the weakest around)...could go on, but for £250 you can get a lot better. PM suggestion stands..and for you too :-).

It's an HP chromebook so it's deliberately tiny.
Everything is web based so all storage and apps are online.
Ah right. We were talking here about Win10 laptops, not chromebooks - different kettle of fish entirely and running a different OS by a different manufacturer and set up to run any applications via the cloud.
No real comparison to a Windows machine0 -

The OS and recovery partitions already installed on your laptop will take up a chunk of your 32GB of space. So you probably woulndt have had much space left to use.
Removing printer software wont really resolve this long term.
You can you buy an external hard-drive, plug and use (they are quite cheap these days) but you would really need usable space on your laptop to run programs and software...this will be more difficult if youre relaying on your external harddrive.
If you are able to, my suggestion would be to return the laptop and buy something with a larger hard-drive. These type of laptops are made for browsing and using online tools/software, hence the low amount of useble hard-drive space.
Have you considered buying a used laptop ? for £250 you could buy a much better spec laptop, with warranty, and would last you a couple of years.
Feel free to message me if you need any further advice or pointers.
Good luck
You've confused the poster you just quoted, with the O/P.
Pramsay13 has a Chromebook, not a Win10 laptop0 -

I understood everything and yes, still poor 'advice,.
No one buys a laptop to have an external HDD permanently attached. That would be stupid.
If she decides to make the new drive the default for storage, it would mean that the HDD would always need to be attached when in use. That would be stupid. Better to have a Desktop computer in that case.
So in order for the laptop to work as it should, run the clean up task, add the 32 GB SD card and set it as the default for storage if necessary
She doesn't need more than 64 GB otherwise she would have chosen a laptop with more storage..
Thanks, but I'll think that I and everyone else, should pass up on your offer of a PM.0 -
Ok, i can't even do a Windowd update without doing something about the storage so I'm thinking of seeing if I can return the laptop, saying its unwanted Xmas pressie and investing a bit more in a laptop with more GB. If I run a "recover" is that enough to set it back to complete beginning as if I've never used it?? Have to be certain before returning it!0

you need to do a reset pc and make sure that you don't keep any files."The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0
