  • Do these referrals only work online. Can’t you ring up with the code?
I came into this world with nothing and I've got most of it left.

My DS had this problem too when I recommended him.

He used the secure messaging feature on internet banking and sent a message on the lines of 'I'm unable to complete my form from the link my friend sent me as I have not been given a switching code.
Can you please send this to me as soon as possible so I can complete the form for my reward?'

They located his code and sent it via internet banking with instructions to complete the offer.

Do it ASAP though as it needs to be within x amount of days (28 I think - I could be wrong though)

Surely that only works if the switcher is already a Nationwide customer though - we don't know whether the OP is or not?
  • I had the same confusion yesterday(I'm already a nationwide customer and was recommended by my DS) so I rang them and was helped all the way through opening a new account. At the end I was given a code to put into the original link and carried on from there, long time on the phone but the advisor was brilliant!

No - my DS couldn't do it how he should have been doing it so opened it via the website and then contacted them to link the code later.
    He wasn't an existing customer.

Well I don't see how it would be possible to receive a secure message unless you're logged in to online banking, and that can only be done if you are an existing customer.

Once he opened it online - he had access to online banking within a few days then sent a secure message.
I'm saying he wasn't an existing customer prior to opening the account. (Obviously you need an account to send a secure message.)

Just sharing my experience of what happened and how it was resolved in case it helps anyone.

The other option the OP has is to do as directed on their website.
