If the GF makes a rational decision it has to be respected. I guess that at the back of your mind will be the risk that she uses the chicken pox exposure as an excuse not to have your girls. Irrational and unfair, but hormones in pregnant ladies can play all sorts of games (said as a mum of 2).

I'm aware of the hormones flying about due to having kids myself, but thanks for that. So, no, it mightn't be a rational decision, but I'd like to think the ex could make a rational decision as he isn't pregnant.

I have given them the option now as I have informed them, but it really is like saying, someone I met a while ago met someone who had this disease, now I'm worried I'm going to pass it on to my friend's sister who's pregnant because I've met my friend.

I would get it if my nephew was snuggling up to my ex's gf, but that ain't likely to happen!

I'd rather they didn't go cos like I mentioned in a previous post, she made them feel rather carp one weekend when she wouldn't let them go near her as they'd had the flu jab during the week. She even made them put toothpaste on their finger before putting it on their toothbrushes. Didn't quite get why, but there you go.

    How you catch chickenpox

Chickenpox is caused by a virus that spreads very easily to people who haven't had it before. If you have had it before, you'll usually be immune for life.

The infection is spread in the fluid found in chickenpox blisters and the droplets in the coughs or sneezes of someone with the infection.

    You can catch chickenpox from:

    contaminated surfaces
contaminated objects, such as toys or bedding
touching chickenpox blisters or the shingles rash
face-to-face contact with an infected person, such as having a conversation
being in the same room as an infected person for 15 minutes or more

Someone with chickenpox is infectious from one or two days before the rash appears until all the blisters have dried out and crusted over.

The incubation period is seven to 21 (usually 10 to 21) days after exposure to the herpes varicella-zoster virus to the development of the symptoms. The disease is most contagious a day or two before the rash appears and until the rash is completely dry and scabbed over, about five to six days after onset of the rash.27 Feb 2017

Oh god, she’s not an anti-vaxxer is she? They fear “shedding” from anyone who has been recently vaccinated :rotfl:...Not sure what the toothpaste thing is all about though?

You’ll need to keep your kids away from hers if she’s not going to vaccinate!!

Firstly I think its really considerate of you to think of this. If the gf is not in contact with the actual sufferer and your kids are going on a different day after they have showered and have fresh clothes on, I personally wouldn't worry. If he has it already, he may not even be contagious by the time you see him?

I think in this case you're damned if you do and damned if you don't!

Who knows the health of anyone they contact daily? I've just answered the door to the postman. He may have also been talking to Mrs Goggins earlier who may or may not have scarlet fever..

The g.f may feel a little delicate or precious, hey that's hormones for you.

I don't see the issue here. The kids have had chickenpox so unlikely to catch it again, so they can't pass it on to the gf.
  • Years ago, a few of us went out for lunch; one was pregnant and she was sat next to someone who casually mentioned that the lunch was a welcome break, as she had two kids at home with chicken pox. My friend made her excuses and left there and then. She did all the research under the sun, and knew that her risk was practically non-existent, but it didn't stop her worrying like crazy for the rest of her pregnancy.

You've done the right thing in telling them, and there can be no come-back on you.

Presumably it is shared toothpaste. And she didn't want the toothpaste to touch their "contaminated by flu jab" toothbrushes.

Both her and my ex are against the vaccine and I get that, that's their choice. But it's me who will have to take time off work if they get flu. But anyway, that's a separate argument.

I have been asked a long series of questions, but it does appear that they will still be going on Xmas Day.

If your children never had it, would you still have your nephew there for dinner?
