Just sayin'
Well, what you said was...You find me a household where the household chores and cooking are genuinely shared 50-50 Male-Female and I'll find you a sober Irishman on March 17th.
And I had no problem in looking about my house and finding such a household.
Quoting statistics, no matter their accuracy, cannot support you when you asked for a single instance.0 -
Why has this thread moved to one of debating how much house work men do? For one, surely considering women are more likely to work PT, isn't acceptable that women should do more house work?
Also, does DIY/gardening gets counted into it? Because again, if we are only talking about dusting and cooking, I'd love to see the same graph that looks at the division of DIY labour!
Add to this the fact that most people tend to have short term memory when it comes to how much their partner do compared to them. My OH would say he does much more than I do, but that's because he makes a lot more fuss about it, I just get on with it!
Finally, not everyone hates housework. I know a few women who actually say it relaxes them so they don't mind. Saying that, the one I'm thinking of is just about to go and spend the festive seasons with her family in Scotland (from London) and she was saying how grateful she was that her husband doesn't mind the driving because she would be a wreck if she had to do it! Housework is not everything in a relationship!0 -

When I went to do a degree we divided work. OH picked shopping and cooking. I got washing and cleaning.
I’d say I got the better deal.
While the kids were at home and we were working washing/ ironing was a big job. Then I had a cleaner.
We’re retired now -minimal cleaning, not that much washing. :T
Ooh, I love an Irish accent, drunk or sober.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

That's what my DH says about cleaning, vacuuming in particular. He says the same about watering the garden in the summer months, sort of mindless and soothing a good way to wind down. Why has this thread moved to one of debating how much house work men do? Personally, if I had a choice between full time work or PT and housework I'd choose (and did) full time always. I suppose it's each to his own but I find housework a necessary chore but hardly productive and satisfying. It's not a lifestyle I'd choose.
I think the thread has veered from the legalities of who pays the mortgage to alerting the OP that she could end up waiting on her live in boyfriend as well.0 -
I'd pick the PT work and housework because I would have an incentive to do the latter as quickly as possible (and well of course!), knowing that I can then use my free time as I want whereas at work, the more efficient, the more work you've given and somehow still never manage to finish on time!Personally, if I had a choice between full time work or PT and housework I'd choose (and did) full time always.
